Up for Debate: Stepping up in Syria

Monday, April 2, 2012 at 12:45am

It appears the United States, as well as other countries, are stepping up efforts to intervene in the fighting in Syria. While some nations are pledging money for opposition fighters, U.S. officials have agreed to supply communications equipment to the rebels, according to a New York Times Sunday. How do you feel about that move by President Barack Obama and his administration? How far should the U.S. go to intervene?

Go to MwhKuunp8D8&feature=player_embedded and get an idea what Obama is doing here.

By: gdiafante on 4/2/12 at 5:05

WWJD?

I imagine if our hands weren't tied in Afghanistan and there was no sabre-rattling regarding Iran...and we weren't broke...we'd probably be providing more assistance.

Of course, those are pretty lame excuses when human beings are being slaughtered.

By: dargent7 on 4/2/12 at 5:22

Let Saidi Arabia, Turkey, India, China...hell Russia handle it.
Saudia Arabia has $30. trillion in the bank, as does China.
What do those shieks do with all the oil money off our backs?
How many Rolls Royces, wives, and palaces can they accumulate?
The Chinese with all that electronics profits.
Besides. We personally killed bin Laden and Gadaffi. We now want to kill this Asam fellow and then bomb Iran and kill Ackjemadon, too?
Great reputation the USA is aquiring in the world. Bunch of mercenaries available for hire to assassinate country's leaders. Enough.

By: gdiafante on 4/2/12 at 5:32

See, this is why were aren't a Christian nation. First, American Christianity has hardly anything to do with Christ. Second, we like to talk a good game, but we value financial success over humanity. How else can you explain sitting idly by again while genocide rears its ugly head.

So what's the tipping point? How many dead is enough to say enough? Well, there's about 6000 dead right now...maybe at an even 10K?

Maybe I'm going at this all wrong...I'll try this...there's oil in Syria...

By: govskeptic on 4/2/12 at 5:40

Let's give them the used cell phones from the soldiers we bring home
from Afghanistan and call it our donation to the cause! With a leader of
the Muslim Brotherhood running for President of Egypt it appears the
Arab Spring is going to turn into a Fall Nightmare.
We should hang a sign on the Statue of Liberty that says: "We shall
not donate one dollar . one soldier, or admit one person to any country
that bans the burning of used books!"

By: Ummm... on 4/2/12 at 5:46

Right, gov- we're having a "used bible" burning later today if you'd like to join in.

By: dargent7 on 4/2/12 at 5:59

6,000 dead? Both Bush's strating in 1991 and just finishing up in 2008 killed how many Iraqi's and Afghans? The figure is in the hundreds of thousands. 6,000 is just the American dead.

By: Rasputin72 on 4/2/12 at 6:39

I would think that the military would be getting very tired of fighting wars that politicians create.

By: Loner on 4/2/12 at 6:40

Good morning, Nashville!

The vexing question(s) of the day: How do you feel about that (Syrian) move by President Barack Obama and his administration? How far should the U.S. go to intervene?

Looks like our Nobel Peace Prize winning POTUS is scaling back the war-making a tad...after the election, he'll have more "flexibility"...as he informed the world, by way of an unnoticed live microphone recently. He has to maintain the facade for now.

Israel is very upset with the US, for not stopping US aid to Egypt, now that the Muslim Brotherhood has emerged as a post-Mubarak political force in Egypt. Israel has had enough of the "Arab Spring"...they have denounced it; they preferred dealing with the Arab dictators and the Israelis are preparing for more holy war with their regional neighbors.....bankrolled by the US taxpayer and with the blessings of our bribed Congress and WH.

The US intervention in Libya had mixed results and I do not expect the US to do that Libyan-type of intervention in any other Arab states anytime soon...Israel is strongly opposed to such humanitarian missions on behalf of Arabs.....any US aid that goes to Arabs should have gone to the Jewish State, in their way of thinking.....they are the number one recipient of US aid, but they want more, more more.

Syria's Assad is a war criminal, IMO, his regime will not last forever....the rebels will treat him like the rebels treated Saddam Hussein...sodomized with a bayonet before being shot.....desert justice, 21st century style.

By: gdiafante on 4/2/12 at 6:45

I would think that the military would be getting very tired of fighting wars that politicians create.

Are there any other kind?

By: Loner on 4/2/12 at 6:48

Rasp, the Defense lobby never saw a war or weapons system they did not like...that's how Colonels become Generals. But Defense is not the only culprit in the US war mongering gang.

The Israel lobby crafts US policy in the ME and the Energy Lobby is definitely part of the War Super Lobby as well. The selfish interests of Defense, Israel & Energy overlap in the ME region.

These 3 lobbies are so powerful, that the Congress and the White House are afraid to challenge them.....their campaign donations are tied directly to services they perform for the War Super Lobby.

As for the 4th estate, the US major media, they are all owned and operated by Zionists, as Helen Thomas so accurately pointed out. We cannot rely on investigative journalism to restore rule by the people, as opposed to rule by the special interests....the MSM are raking in huge piles of money by hosting these "debates" and airing the attack ads etc. The media are happy with the status quo....they have things pretty much under control and they like it that way.

By: Loner on 4/2/12 at 6:56

My bad, Saddam Hussein had his neck stretched to the breaking point...his head was ripped from his body as he was hanged....too much rope...his terminal velocity was too high. The hangman got his math wrong.

Qadaffy got sodomized with a bayonet before the rebels shot him.

Assad will probably get the Qaddafy treatment, not the Hussein treatment.

Oh yeah, Junior Bush was a big fan of state-sponsored executions...he left the Iraqis with a lasting US legacy of officially-sanctioned brutal hangings. Junior Bush was a Christian and he left his Christian mark on the place.

By: pswindle on 4/2/12 at 7:39

Thank God we have President Obama and not Bush because we would be in a full-fledge war on our hands if Bush were in control.

By: Loner on 4/2/12 at 7:52

I agree, Pswindle, and Jeb Bush is waiting in the wings, tanned & rested...just in case there's an open convention...or if Romney needs a brand-name VP.

Dick Cheney could be the surprise nominee? He's got the heart of a young person pumping in that puffed-out chicken-hawk chest

McCain-Palin would have gotten us into the Battle of Armageddon by this time.

Speaking of chicken-hawks who would be the CINC, it's time we resurrected Romney's draft-dodging record...he went on a Mormon Mission to France - to "gay Pairee"? - during the Vietnam War....back in the days when Negroes were not admitted to BYU or welcomed into the LDS faith.

It's not ancient history, it goes to Mitt's character & his beliefs and thus is highly relevant....let's examine Mitt's baggage.

By: BenDover on 4/2/12 at 7:57

This administration has not poked its nose into Syria's business because their regime is already led by radical Muslims. That seems to be the common denominator.

By: Loner on 4/2/12 at 8:21

Ben, Assad is considered to be a secular despot, not an "Islamist"....Mubarak, Hussein, the Shah and Qaddafy were not Islamists...Islamists supplanted them....so, according to your argument, BHO should be supporting the Islamist rebels, right?

By: BenDover on 4/2/12 at 8:28

Syria now is happily a surrogate of the Mullahs in Iran against Israel. Obama isn't as excited about upsetting that as he was about overthrowing despots who had been cooperating with the USA.

By: Ummm... on 4/2/12 at 8:42

That's right, Ben- just keep on spouting that wingnut garbage about Obama being in cahoots with the radical Islamists. It keeps the unifying principle of Republicanism- IGNORANCE- front and center.

By: BenDover on 4/2/12 at 8:44

US and humanitarian interests are usually secondary to Obama's knee-jerk anti-colonial dreams of his father.

By: BenDover on 4/2/12 at 8:46

I didn't make or execute the Obama policy, ummm; I simply am doing the unusual act of reporting on it.

By: slacker on 4/2/12 at 8:49

If it gets bad enough, Assad will get some gone with his billions. He'll relocate to a country that will provide girls & asylum. Check out the neck on that dude, it would take one of those ship mooring ropes, to hang his sorry arse.
But you know what happens when you assad.

By: slacker on 4/2/12 at 8:53

But Assad neck will have more flexibility after his re-election.

By: yogiman on 4/2/12 at 8:55

Still a big fan of Obama's, pswindle? Check out www.wnd.com/2012/04/hollywood-producer-heard-bill-clinton-say-obama-ineligible?cat_orig=politics/ and see what Bill Clinton had to say about him.

By: yogiman on 4/2/12 at 8:58

They're dreams FROM his father, BenDover, not dreams of his father. A big difference.

By: BenDover on 4/2/12 at 9:05

I used to think he had some weird warped Star Trek 'prime directive' philosophy going on but his actions in Egypt and Libya would surely indicate otherwise. The remnant anti-colonialism philosophy in which the US and England have perpetrated evil across the world seems to fit a lot better. No relative value allowed... no credit for leading the advancement out of these earlier conquest centric world views. Only payback for what your great, great, great, great grandfathers have done. This makes a little sense out of the seeming chaos that is Obama's world-view.

By: BenDover on 4/2/12 at 9:06

You are correct yogi... it is 'FROM' and it is an important distinction.

By: Ummm... on 4/2/12 at 9:15

Ben and Yogi expounding on Obama's "worldview." Now, that's entertainment.

By: gdiafante on 4/2/12 at 9:29

I can sum up Ben and Yogi's (they should start an ice cream shop, specializing in conspiracy flavors) posts very easily:

Obama's Muslim.
Obama's illegal.
Obama is the cause of every known problem in the world today (and yesterday, tomorrow and ten thousand years from now)
Obama's the boogeyman.

Thanks for playing.

By: BenDover on 4/2/12 at 9:41

I don't think he's Muslim or Illegal; but I don't have any trouble seeing that he's a lot more critical toward world powers that are, in fact, cooperating with the US than he is to world powers who hate us. Dismiss it if you will but these are facts.

By: Ummm... on 4/2/12 at 9:49

Ben, you wouldn't know a "fact" if one bit you on the a$$.

By: yogiman on 4/2/12 at 10:03

You write very well, gdiafante, you should now learn to read and understand what you are reading.

Can't you see any difference between to and from? Didn't you even get promoted from grade school?

By: gdiafante on 4/2/12 at 10:11

I know exactly what you posted and what you alluded to, yogi. You're as transparent as the air we breathe.

You should be the last person on Earth to make commentary on anyone's educational level. Pot meet kettle.

By: yogiman on 4/2/12 at 10:13

How do you see it, gdiafante? Obama was raised in a family who were Muslims on the paternal side traced back through ancestors and communists on the maternal side. Did he grow up thinking: WOW!, I don't like that kind of politics, I'm gonna grow up and be a democrat?

Did you grow up much different than your parents' political views?

By: gdiafante on 4/2/12 at 10:19

Did you grow up much different than your parents' political views?

Yes, I did. That's the wonderful thing about being an independent thinker. Too bad there aren't more of these, maybe the debate wouldn't be about such archaic ideology like homophobia, racial bigotry, Communism...

And if that is too vague for your tiny little mind, yes, I'm talking about you and your completely brain-dead generation.

By: yogiman on 4/2/12 at 10:20

To further your question in your 10:29 post, gdifante, yes, Obama is illegal. All ways has been and always will be.

As I have noted before: Even if he was a natural born citizen, when he was adopted by his Indonesian stepfather he lost that status and one lost, you cannot get it back. If, and may I repeat; IF he repatriated, he could only become a naturalized citizen.

How about listening to what he said on that site I mentioned at the beginning of these posts and the one I gave on Bill Clinton.

Being a democrat is one thing, gdiafante, but giving this nation up to a usurper is another. This is not going to be a political fun year.

By: Ummm... on 4/2/12 at 10:32

gd, we've all got to stop dignifying Yogi's ignorant babble with responses- it only spurs him to greater depths of illiterate tripe.

By: brrrrk on 4/2/12 at 10:33

BenDover said

"US and humanitarian interests are usually secondary to Obama's knee-jerk anti-colonial dreams of his father."

Uh oh... someones been dipping their bill into the Glenn Back Kool-aid again.

By: yogiman on 4/2/12 at 10:39

Sorry, BenDover, but yes, he is a Muslim and yes, he is illegal, and yes, he is interested in world power.

I ask again: If he was running for that office legally, why didn't he save millions of dollars by simply showing his papers and proving he was in the race legally? What is he trying to hide. Would it embarrass him too much? Don't make me laugh. No one can hide their past for long.

After all, look at the Trayvon/Zimmerman case. How quick did the media find Zimmerman's past history? Then look at how little they found of Trayvon's past. And why do they constantly show pictures over 4 years old on Trayvon instead of current pictures but they keep showing recent pictures of Zimmerman in jail uniform orange.

But for over 4 years they can't find out if Barack Obama is his real name. They haven't even been able to prove he was born. Hell, was he hatched like a goose? You know, he got his heritage to goose the USA now.

But then, he's not the first president wanting world power. Anyone of you who's looking at the current situation as normal are soon going to be in for a great surprise.

By: gdiafante on 4/2/12 at 10:54

You're right, Ummm...hitting the ignore the troll button.

By: yogiman on 4/2/12 at 11:46

gdiafante,

I honestly feel sorry for you and your fellow posters on this site. So many of you apparently can't what's going on. I hope you wake up before the next election: If we have one.

For once I agree with yogi.... there will be no election in November. Obama-ski will use the trumped up Trayvon Martin situation to stir up the "blacks" so as the create a race war that will give him the opportunity to declare martial law; thus an outright takeover of our government. All ranking members of the GOP will then be shuttled off to "reeducation centers" where they will be forced to adopt the ideology of the new Obama communist regime.... or else! Meanwhile, the members of the new Black Panther party will take over the role of the Secret Service and all previous, current, and future members of the military will be forced to take an oath to Obama and Obama only..... oh the humanity. '2/2/12' -1 =

"By: Ummm... on 4/2/12 at 10:49

Ben, you wouldn't know a "fact" if one bit you on the a$$."

Keep trying little trooper. One day maybe you'll be able to add something to the conversation like loner and gd do.

By: yogiman on 4/2/12 at 12:49

You obviously haven't read about the executive order he just put out, brrrrk. Barry can declare martial law even in peace time.

To be so admiring of someone, when you don't even know who he is exposes your lack of reasonable thinking.

Tell me: Who is that man? Where did you get your knowledge of him, after all, he's in the highest office in our nation and I'd sure like to factually know who in the hell he is. I do know who he isn't.

By: gdiafante on 4/2/12 at 1:07

Yogi, All this is a re-authorization of the Defense Production Act of 1950. It has to re-authorized every so many years and has been in constant effect since 1950. When in doubt Google Section 101:

"Section 101. Purpose. This order delegates authorities and addresses national defense resource policies and programs under the Defense Production Act of 1950, as amended (the "Act")."

Is there nothing you wouldn't distort?

By: yogiman on 4/2/12 at 1:12

Just curious, brrrrk, why did Barry step in on the Trayvon issue so soon, which was a one man on one, but he never made a single comment about those black guys killing those to foreign students at Mississippi State the week before?

I guess it just wasn't worth the time to make a comment because he had too much to do in keeping the office secure.

By: gdiafante on 4/2/12 at 1:16

I think his statement said it all, yogi. Do you even know what he said? I doubt it. You are completely irrational regarding him. It's gone from genuine political opposition to personal hatred. Don't worry, you're not the only one.

But, why is it mostly the stupid that are doing it?

By: yogiman on 4/2/12 at 1:20

I understand what it is, gdiafante, but I believe if you check them all, you'll see the wording is quite different in some sections of it.

I'll say again, to accept someone as your president whom you know nothing about is exposing your ignorance.

Look at the two messages I put on this site, one by Obama and the other by Bill Clinton and tell me what you think about them. Are the fakes?

By: budlight on 4/2/12 at 1:21

Yogi, the ABC (a liberal network) just came out with their findings on the enhanced video showing the wounds on the back of Zimmerman's head. And if liberal ABC can find that information, so can anyone with a smidgeon of a brain. Oh yeah, these libs have no brains; they just use the point and follow method. Obama points and they follow. I can assure you that if one of "theirs" were involved in killing a person, they'd be all up in arms if the person were accused wrongly. Oh yeah! Remember Rodney King? They (the victims) then looted, rioted and almost slaughtered that innocent truck driver they (the victims) pulled out of the truck in CA. Today I wonder what his life is like. The pictures of Martin show a tiny looking little innocent looking kid. I hear he had gold teeth and tatoos. Did he? I wonder. Anyway, O'Drama is an interloper; He needs to get out of the lawyer business cause he's not a lawyer. He's supposed to be a president and doing poorly at that. As a Dictator, he's A-on target with the plan!

By: Captain Nemo on 4/2/12 at 1:47

Amend pswindle for you 8:39 post, with Bush aka Dick’s puppet in hand we would have blown Syria and Iran to hell along with the Federal Treasury.

By: BenDover on 4/2/12 at 9:44
US and humanitarian interests are usually secondary to Obama's knee-jerk anti-colonial dreams of his father.
Yes Ben I know that all Bush wanted to do was to give the Iraqi people democracy.

Ben the clue that your thing is all wrong is that yogi agrees. A sane person would recheck his sanity would that endorsement. LOL

By: Captain Nemo on 4/2/12 at 1:54

Does the video explain why Zimmerman went beyond what a Neighborhood watch participant is supposed to do? Does it show why Zimmerman was stalking Martin? And more important does it show Martin was standing his ground from a would be attacker?

And you wonder why we think you are a racist.
