Up for Debate: A trip to North Korea

Monday, March 4, 2013 at 1:41am

What do you make of Dennis Rodman's trip to North Korea with the Harlem Globetrotters and a media outlet? Are any interactions good interactions?

Are we citizens or subjects? What is the difference between police and soldiers? Is it civil authority or an occupying army? Methinks our government is getting a little too big for its britches.

Why...thank you, Grid.

I'm serious, if we look for the common ground, we will surely find it...Congress is supposed to be looking for the common ground too....but the special interests have destroyed or polluted much of the common ground....like two continents drifting apart on tectonic plates; the Democratic party and the Republican Party are at each others throats....it's reminiscent of the chasm between those two parties in 1860...nobody sought the common ground back then either...the American Civil War was actually a war between the Democrats & the Republicans...let's hope that we can avoid a replay of that.

I think of political ideologies as intersecting circles in a Venn diagram...the overlap area is the "sweet spot" that I try to find.

Ben...that was a scarey video....Joe Lieberman created this monster...we are starting to look just like Israel, aren't we? Security has become big business here too. The shared values....Kerching!

With nearly 300 million firearms out there across the nation, and taking into account all of our hate-radio, hate-TV and online hate sites, it probably takes 2,717 of these monster vehicles to keep a lid on things....people are hopping mad and armed to the teeth...stand back, it's gonna blow!

Ben, are you still in Hawaii?

By: BenDover on 3/4/13 at 11:20

Back now, loner. Wishing I was still there.

By: yogiman on 3/4/13 at 11:21

Loner,

If you ever worked on a farm, you should know you have to keep "chopping the weeds" to get the best of the crop you're growing.

And as old as you say you are, you should know that you learned from lessons repeated when in school.

All I've asked for from you guys is simple proof "your man" is in that office legally. Why haven't any of you given me that proof?

Don't you have it because Barry won't present it himself?

Maybe you should look at the "deal" at Athens TN in 1946 when the crooks had taken over the city. They made a movie out of it.

But then, there was veterans fighting for their town back then, Loner, not "give it to 'ums" like you are today.

By: BenDover on 3/4/13 at 11:26

Sounds like you and the people making these buy decisions to form a par-military army are smokin' the same stuff old friend. They trust the authority more than the peeps... and the paranoia has set in hard.

Big Sis sees the biggest threat to the country as being people pissed off that their government is getting out of hand and she's assuring the out-of-hand government will not be compelled to give up any ground to the people.

By: Loner on 3/4/13 at 11:34

No, Ben...the guys buying and selling all that military hardware are not smoking kind bud, Ben....more likely they are having 3-martini lunches with the Congress Critters and the manufacturers....this looks more like an alcohol-related tragedy, IMO.

Did you get a good lei while in paradise?

By: Loner on 3/4/13 at 11:38

So, Ben, how do you guys plan to whip the guvmint's ass with your glocks and such...they have 2,717 of these monsters...each carrying ten or more commandos...just for starters?

If only Mubarak, Qaddafi and Assad had those toys....Arab Spring My Ass!!

There'll be no American Spring....not while Homeland Security is on duty.

By: BenDover on 3/4/13 at 11:40

Yes... the leis were abundant.

A little more rain than I expected but it was a glorious week, none-the-less.

By: brrrrk on 3/4/13 at 11:41

Remember a week or two ago when charter/private schools were the topic du jour? And I made the comment that charter schools were nothing but a backdoor to the eventual public funding of religious schools at the expense of funding public schools? I believe I used the old "camels nose under the tent" saying....... Well, as it turns out the whole damned camel is in the tent. As of right now, there are over 300 private schools in this country that are using public voucher money to promote the teaching of "creationism" as science, and at the expense of science. TOLD YOU SO!!!

I wonder what's worse, the hysteria regarding an out-of-control government or the demonizing of science?

The way I see it.... it's all in the same.

By: yogiman on 3/4/13 at 11:56

Loner,

You keep accusing me of hating Barack Obama because of his race. If you knew me, you'd know you couldn't be further from the truth.

But yes, I hate him for stealing this nation from my children and grandchildren and future heirs. I also "hate" congress for letting him get away with it.

Unless the definition of natural born citizen has been changed by an amendment to our Constitution, Obama is not a natural born citizen.

I ask again: If he was, don't you think he would save himself millions by simply presenting his legitimate birth certificate?

What was the reason he refused to be questioned when he insisted John McCain be questioned?

I'll also repeat: To accept someone as president of this nation and you have no idea who in the hell they are makes you look like you're as ignorant as many of the members of congress by seeing some of their actions and remarks.

Sorry you don't like it, but I'm going to keep on keeping on. Time will tell. If it happens before I die, I'll have one helluva good laugh at you. If it doesn't, maybe my grand kids can have a good laugh.

By: gdiafante on 3/4/13 at 11:57

For the most part, the fed government advocates science and technology. Hell, most breakthroughs are because of government grants. I think it's more on a local level that it goes to sh!t.

By: BenDover on 3/4/13 at 12:03

If you hadn't noticed the hysteria about and out-of-control government refers to said government that has spent $6Trillion more than it's taken in over the past 4 years.

By: gdiafante on 3/4/13 at 12:16

Oh there's certainly hysteria that's about 4 years old but it more to do with the party that lost and is now, suddenly, concerned about debt.

Me, I'm concerned about government but don't see it as the evil, conspiratorial entity that is hellbent on oppression and general debauchery. I think that in an absence of leadership, you get what we have now. We need good people, not to revert back to the Articles of Confederation.

Let's see..... finally putting two wars on the books might have something to do with that. In addition, the actual budget deficit has decreased each year since Obama has been in office. Name the last fiscally responsible Republican to pull that off?

By: BenDover on 3/4/13 at 12:29

It would seem that homeland security thinks the country is closer to a tipping point than you do, gd.

What happens when people stop lending the US money at the interest rates we currently enjoy? Bernanke's stash from all the equities gain he picked up in '07 has to be running low so he won't be able to fire up the presses without inflation and dollar devaluation. We could face problems of Weimar proportion in very short order.

Our government's prime objective will be unchanged... to preserve and advance itself. There is much historical precedent for anyone who is willing to consider it.

By: BenDover on 3/4/13 at 12:36

Not when you account for TARP, brrrrk.

Obama respent all the TARP repayments and on top of that jacked spending back up to the one time crisis level; and he has left spending levels at that inflated amount such that deficits are $1,000,000,000,000+ every year over the earlier deficit trend-line even during the height of Iraq war expenditures.

With the repayment of TARP and our withdrawal from Iraq and Afghanistan the $400B deficits should have returned to $0. Instead they are still > $1Trillion every year with no end in sight.

By: bfra on 3/4/13 at 12:44

Ben - Obama respent all the TARP repayments

==========================================
TARP, TARP, TARP, TARP! That's all Ben can harp on and his statement is untrue anyway. All of TART hasn't been repaid, so it definitely can't be spent by Obama. Get over youself Ben, Romney LOST "BIG TIME"!

By: bfra on 3/4/13 at 12:45

Fourth TARP is spelled wrong, but Ben knows what it is, that is all he has on his brain.

By: brrrrk on 3/4/13 at 12:57

By: BenDover on 3/4/13 at 2:06

The deficits went down every year from 2004 - 2007 brrrrk.

If the GSEs had not blown up and the market had not collapsed on the promise of electing our first ideological socialist as president of the US I think we'd still be on a roll.

By: gdiafante on 3/4/13 at 2:10

Actually, Ben just confirmed what I already said, the probem is people.

Of course Ben's problem is authority. Anyone in a position of authority is the bad guy. I thought that way once too, then I went through puberty.

By: gdiafante on 3/4/13 at 2:11

If the GSEs had not blown up and the market had not collapsed on the promise of electing our first ideological socialist as president of the US I think we'd still be on a roll.

Once again you repeat the great lie, that has been disproven many times. Insert usurper and I would swear you're yogi.

Go home troll. Unpack. Relax. Have a smoke, or ten.

By: BenDover on 3/4/13 at 2:48

The numbers are what they are gd... closing your eyes... covering your ears ... and saying, "LA LA LA LA LA LA LA" doesn't change them one bit.

By: bfra on 3/4/13 at 3:19

yogi "oops" I mean Ben, only has a 1 track mind. Everything leads back to TARP, TARP, TARP!

By: slacker on 3/4/13 at 3:22

Hey Ben.. glad you're back. Did you spread a tarp and get leied?

By: BenDover on 3/4/13 at 3:26

much leiage, slack... much leiage, indeed.

slacker - If he came on with his fanatical TARP rant, my bet is, he didn't get leied!

By: slacker on 3/4/13 at 3:35

I don't know bfra.. I hear Ben is quite a leied's man.. and he never leaves home without his trusty tarp.

By: yogiman on 3/4/13 at 3:36

Well, bfra,

I believe a one track mind is much better than not having any at all. I would ask 'don't you?' but you have to have one to think with.

By: bfra on 3/4/13 at 3:37

slacker - Ben's MO doesn't back the first part, but I have no doubt about the TARP. He spreads it on here every chance he gets. LOL

By: bfra on 3/4/13 at 3:38

What's that 2:36 BLANK comment?

By: slacker on 3/4/13 at 3:40

yogi take two Midol's.. and go watch The Golden Girls. That's an order mister!

By: Loner on 3/4/13 at 4:20

Just checking in, as 4:20 approaches......checking on my buds in Nashville.

Ben is still working on the Bush Ranch...kind of like Colin Powell, but unpaid. Ben still supports the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq; the tax cuts for the rich and the de-regulation of Wall Street...the Faith-Based Initiative...along with the drilling and the spilling, the strip-mining, the fracking, the pipelines etc.

Ben's a die-hard Bushite....bless his heart.

By: brrrrk on 3/4/13 at 5:01

Loner said

True enough..... Problem is that people like Ben tout their positions based on faith and faith alone with no empirical evidence to support their case. And when their economic pipe dream fails, they always fall back on the same old saw, that we haven't cut enough; meanwhile the middle class bleeds.....

By: yogiman on 3/4/13 at 5:11

slacker, me boy,

I quit taking orders when I was discharged from service in 1955 and I ain't gonna start again.

By: yogiman on 3/4/13 at 5:14

Well, bfra,

If you can't understand my comment at 3:26, that proves my point.

By: Captain Nemo on 3/4/13 at 5:53

By: Rasputin72 on 3/4/13 at 5:55

Brrrk...........Yes there is wealth inequality in this country. Without going through a litany of causes some of them and even many of them are steeped inunfairness.

Having said that however the leading cause of wealth inequality is ineqality among the citizenship. There is a huge population of underclass people in this country. They represent inequality as well. Their genitics wreek with inequality and in turn their educable skills. This segment is the fastest segment of America.

In any case, the wealth inequality prpblem will correct itself over the next decade as more socialist like Barack Husseon Obama are elected into state and federal government.

I doubt that the wealthy will be happy with the coming ten years or so.
