Up for Debate: What's the next move for the Titans?

Monday, December 19, 2011 at 11:43pm

Coach Mike Munchak says Matt Hasselbeck is his guy as long as he can play. Is that the best move for the team? Even if they squeak into the playoffs, will it matter? Should Jake Locker get his shot at perhaps warming up for the starting role next season?

Last Sunday's game against the Colts was disgusting.
Someone needs to get "CJ" into counseling. He gets $50+ million and stinks this season. He promised 2,500 yds last year and did half that. Now, he's doing half of that.
Too bad we've got injuries. What happened to Ringer? He was great, is he injured too?
Hasselbeck is injured, but so is Rothilesberger. Vick plays with a broken finger, etc.
Unless your hamstrings are strung, you play and win.
2 games left, probably win just one. Everyone knows this is a .500 football team....8-8.

By: Loner on 12/20/11 at 7:12

Next move? I dunno, out of town...unless yous cough up more dough? Dig deep yous guys. No cash = no team; got it? Yous better shape up, or da Titans are going bye-bye.
No threat...just fact.

Oh yeah....Good morning, Nashville!

By: dargent7 on 12/20/11 at 7:15

Even at 8-8, the Titans are a viable organization and contender. Not Super Bowl material, but as a foil or spoiler.
The Colts loss was a shame, but this is Munchak's 1st year.
A lot of the stars are out all season. Locker looks great.
At least we don't have to witness "Sweet baby Vinnies" tantrums and antics on and off the field!

Too many pro athletes are like pro-career politicians... too much ego. They think if they get beat its someone else fault.

By: Kosh III on 12/20/11 at 7:58

Yogi
Plus, like pols, they are vastly overpaid and think they can do what they want without any consequences.

By: yogiman on 12/20/11 at 8:08

Agreed, Kosh III, just light career-politicians.

By: Loner on 12/20/11 at 8:16

Career politicians do not earn their money by sacrificing their bodies and brains to a debilitating occupation, like NFL players do. Career politicians enrich themselves by way of "donations", insider trading, perks, kickbacks, sweetheart deals and such....that debilitates the soul and character, not the body and brain.

Sunday's loss to the should've-been 0-16 Colts was a humiliating disgrace; worst I've seen them play this year. Previously I'd thought that the Titans' awful performance in Tempe back in '06 was their worst effort, or that loss in the snow up there in New England on October 18, 2009 (59-0) was bad, but this, to a winless, worthless Irsay (dirty hippy)-owned team that's in our own division (and indoors), was far worse AFAIC. They stunk up that place; so much so that there's talk in Indianapolis of leaving the Stadium doors open all Winter just to air the damned place out.

Right now, there's one home game left, this Saturday. I'll bet LP Field will be practically deserted; there was a chance of that already, given it's Christmas Eve, but after this last performance? Why should anyone show up? (oh, the Cheerleaders will have on Elves' ears and little else? why didn't you say so?! )

By: dargent7 on 12/20/11 at 8:26

Wrong boys. The consequences are quite severe in the NFL. Fines are enormous. Ejections. Game suspensions. All without pay.
All that happens in Congress is, "censured".
Plus, I can watch a NFL game from start to finish.
Can anyone stomach 5 minutes of "House Proceedings" or "Senate Vote" on C-Span?

By: serr8d on 12/20/11 at 8:30

Loner, there's an interesting op-ed in the NYT by Charles M. Blow (their pet racialist) decrying the monies spent on politician's campaigns. But he neglected to mention that Barry-O, our feckless neo-Marxist in Chief, will have a billion-dollar warchest to his credit. True, most of that will go to buying Moo-Chell's vacation tent-dresses, but still.

Like all LeftLibProggs, Blow thinks there should be only one political Party (Democrats) and that NO ONE should be allowed to question LeftLibProgg - Democratic desires! Because, you know, Democrats are all 'protectively' led and nourished by their light-bringing cadre of Invincible Dear Leaders, right?

By: Loner on 12/20/11 at 8:42

Right.

By: Ummm... on 12/20/11 at 8:46

serr8d, great comment about the Titans!

By: Loner on 12/20/11 at 8:55

Obama spent around 743 million dollars to get elected, as I recall....he'll spend over a billion this time around. But he's not beholden to anyone....he's his own man....I have hope...things have changed...that billion-dollar warchest has nothing to do with the man's integrity, priorities and independence.....why, anyone who says different is a dirty old tea-bagger.

I'll Google it, Serr, I like Blow....I'll see what he's got to say..I found this URL:

http://campaignstops.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/12/19/deep-pockets-deeply-political/?ref=opinion

By: Loner on 12/20/11 at 9:04

Ummm, Serr8d is one of our resident bomb-throwers here - in case you have not noticed.

Blow did not mention the Citizens United decision in his piece....he's bitching about the generous individuals....I worry more about the role of generous multinational corporations, foreign governments and other players who have become even more empowered by the CU decision.

Blow did not mention Obama's record-setting campaign spending.

Blow did not offer the reader any websites, other than Sunlight, that are also in the business of exposing the money trail...sites like Opensecrats and Maplight, for example.

Blow blew it on this one....normally he does a more thorough job, IMO....I'd give it a C+.

By: Loner on 12/20/11 at 9:07

S/H/B Opensecrets.org....pardon the typo.

So, shall we have a moment of silence for Dear Leader?

By: yogiman on 12/20/11 at 9:08

serr8d,

If Barry gets his way there will only be one party; socialist, just one step away from communist.

I haven't been able to figure out, or understand, why our fellow Americans see nothing wrong with requiring children to produce a birth certificate to prove they are eligible to enroll in the first grade of elementary school, requiring a child to prove they are 16 years of age to obtain a driver's license, for a young person to join our military services, proof of age to be able to vote in our nation's elections or proof of age for an obvious old person to buy a 6-pak of beer in a grocery store.

And it now seems to be okay to require proof of identity to vote in our nation's elections. But its insulting and shows your ignorance to ask someone sitting in our Oval Office to prove they are whom they claim to be and legally eligible to sit in that office.

Their thoughts amaze me.

By: Loner on 12/20/11 at 9:19

This "Usurpe" BS is very tiring, Yogi...you are chasing posters away with that racist crap....if President Obama was white, you would not care about the who, what, when, where and why of his birth.

You claim to have been a prison guard for several decades...perhaps your exposure to so many bitter, violent, young, black men has tainted your view of black folks?

Please stop beating that dead horse, Yogi...flies are coming out of its rectum and the stench is overpowering....give it a rest man....it's dead.

By: Ummm... on 12/20/11 at 9:43

Does anyone have anything to say about the Titans, or is every subject just another excuse to spout political venom?

(Loner, have you ever heard the old line, "Don't confuse me with facts, my mind's made up?" If you keep trying to talk sense to someone like yogiman, it will start to feel like you're banging your head against a wall. Best to just ignore the lunatic fringe.)

By: Captain Nemo on 12/20/11 at 9:44

In Greek Mythology the Titans were defeated by the Olympians, The key word is defeated. I hated the name when Adams gave it to the team. I say why would he give a looser name.

By: Loner on 12/20/11 at 9:46

Amen, ummm...let us all just ignore him, he feeds on attention.

As for the topic of the day on these Up for Debate threads, we usually address the issue, then open it up....kind of an open mic situation....what do you wish to discuss?

By: Loner on 12/20/11 at 9:49

Loser name? Titans are titanic...no jinx with a name like that, Cap'n Nemo.

The Buffalo Bills are jinxed, IMO, because their team name glorifies a man who slaughtered thousand of bison, starving the plains Indians into submission...bringing the once huge herds, down to a handful of surviving animals.

By: Captain Nemo on 12/20/11 at 9:50

Unless you like to keep on laughing at his foolishness and making fun of his lack of understand. Or if you are like me and keep poking at his black racist heart. Then there is no other reason with the stupid ass. He is a tired old fool Loner and you are no one else is going to change the thought process of and idiot.

By: bfra on 12/20/11 at 9:51

Would like to know what Hasselbeck has done to "deserve" to finish the season? I thought the object of the game was to win. IMO Munchek nor Hasselbeck have been very impressive or productive this season. The proof is on record.

By: BenDover on 12/20/11 at 9:55

The Colts didn't have to lose to assure their #1 draft pick so they unleashed the rage pent-up in a team that's been shackled all season. Munchak might be fantastic as a #2 guy but he doesn't have very good decision skills and that's what the #1 spot requires. Maybe it's 'cause he's a newbie... maybe it's because he's not a decision maker.

By: Captain Nemo on 12/20/11 at 9:58

Loner-
I am a believer in the name fits the team. Titan is a loser’s name.

In all of the years in their history; Houston Oilers/ Tennessee Titans this team has been mediocre at best. The Tennessee Miracle was just that… a miracle. I feel like the team jinks itself. Anytime they are winning, it seems as if something slaps them in the face and loss.

By: yogiman on 12/20/11 at 10:06

Gentlemen (as I use the term loosely),

I know none of you know me. If you did, you would know that racist crap is just that: Crap.

Loner, you can bet your ass if "Barack Obama" was white I would be just as strong on my argument. The evidence and facts are so evident the only reason I can see for you to accept him is the race he clams. And you can bet your ass he is a racist as he has proven several times.

For you to accept someone in that office not knowing who the hell they are shows you are the racists and that makes me wonder; if Barry Soetoro was white, would you accept him in that office as a usurper?

Oh, and "speaking" of the time I worked in that prison? I had many black inmates stand behind me several times when a "situation" arose. Racist? BS!

By: bfra on 12/20/11 at 10:11

yogi - The reason they were standing behind you was to stay away from the stench!

By: Captain Nemo on 12/20/11 at 10:13

Standing behind you? Did you stand up for it or bend over. lol

By: Captain Nemo on 12/20/11 at 10:15

Got to go now. Have fun people. You too yogi.

By: yogiman on 12/20/11 at 10:25

Dumb question for you dummies,

Are you familiar with the recent bill passed by congress I mentioned yesterday? If you aren't, you better look it up unless you are ready and willing to enter a communist government. I'm not.

By: Ummm... on 12/20/11 at 10:58

bfra- I believe a healthy Hasselbeck would be the right choice to start the last two games, the key word being healthy. Obviously, his calf injury affected his play against the Colts, and Munchak waited far too long to replace him with Locker. I think Locker will be a winner here, provided the coaching improves. At this point I think all of the coaching staff (Munchak included) is questionable at best, with Palmer (OC) being highly suspect.

By: BenDover on 12/20/11 at 11:04

I know a lot of Monday morning quarterbacks but with Munchak's coaching you're often asking WTF before the ball is snapped.

By: Loner on 12/20/11 at 11:04

Yogi always checked on the birth certificates of every presidential candidate that was ever offered to the voting public...ain't that right, Yogi?

Nothing new in this case, Yogi always digs into the personal birth narrative of each and every presidential candidate, looking for usurpers, Muslims and Communists.....he's been doing that ever since he was old enough to vote....no, nothing especially racist about this ...nothing new, Yogi always digs for the birth data on these guys.....right Yogi?

By: Loner on 12/20/11 at 11:07

At this point in the NFL season, every starting player is banged up, to some degree....except for the kickers, perhaps. Those teams whose play off hopes are dead sometimes act like it. But the Colts rose to the occasion, you gotta respect that...they played for pride and won.

By: jvh2b on 12/20/11 at 11:11

On the Titans - it's a new team this year, yes he deserves to finish...these things take time to put together. Look at the Colts, they suck without Peyton. Building a great team takes more than a season...esp w/ the two people at the helm being new.

Yogi - I swear to God...you have zero credibility. If it was the dem's who pushed that bs legislation through, you would almost have a point...but yet it passed the Repugnant house with flying colors. Not to mention only you could bring around a subject that has zero to do with Obama back to your conspiracy theory. You really should get help. Or at least go to other boards and try to find people just as crazy as you. We are all desperately sick of hearing it. We get it. You think he's not there legally. Great. Moving fwd...

Ummm--even though I don't follow it at times (see above haha) I have stopped trying to rationalize (ie present logic) w/ yogi given the saying: Never try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig.

By: yogiman on 12/20/11 at 11:50

Wrong, Loner,

I'm not digging only on the birth certificate on this man. I'm just trying to find out who in the hell he legally is.

I'm simply going by the data I have found, much of it in his book "Dreams from My Father". If you haven't read it, maybe you should.

The question keeps coming back: Why in the hell doesn't he prove he is legally eligible for the office by presenting an official birth certificate? Wanna know? Because he doesn't have one.

I repeat my question: Why did he refuse to be questioned by the Senate when they questioned John McCain on his legal eligibility? Funny, they asked him to, to prove the question. Also funny, they refused to insist. Not so funny, he got away with it.

What is worse and not so funny, congress is sitting side by side with him.

By: codyle on 12/20/11 at 12:24

It never ceases to amaze me how ya'll always get off onto the political train no matter what the discussion. You need to get on a political thread and leave the sports to the fans geez!! I say let the kid have his day. It's obvious that Hasselbeck is hurting and that limits his escapability and being able to push off his back leg to throw downfield. Locker gives us a lot more options run/pass plus the opposition's defensive co-ordinator has to game plan for him which (in theory) opens up the run and passing game. Give the keys to Locker, what can it hurt at this point??
Merry Christmas to all!!!

By: bfra on 12/20/11 at 12:30

codyle - You have a great suggestion! Let Locker show what he can do and get a little experience at the same time

By: Loner on 12/20/11 at 12:36

The troll says I'm wrong, it's not just the birther thing...he insists that there's more than that pointing to a "usurper" in office.

I never claimed that the birther issue was the only "damning" charge that the troll rants about...there are those ridiculous "Muslim" and "Communist" charges as well.

The troll did not try to claim that he always digs up the birthing, faith details etc. on each and every presidential candidate, as a routine matter.

That, to me, is silent acquiescence to the charge that this sort of personal scrutiny of a presidential candidates BC, his faith and his "Communist leanings" is something new for this troll.

When a black man was nominated for the US presidency, all of a sudden, the troll becomes a presidential research "scholar".

But again. I am giving the troll attention...my bad...no more today, I promise.

By: Loner on 12/20/11 at 12:42

Codyle, this is not a dedicated sports column...this is "Up for Debate". Everyday we "regulars" weigh in on the topic of the day...which is often not very weighty....after a certain period of time, we take the discussion to new areas that posters suggest....the NCP Webmaster lets us have this online playpen...and we are grateful....though some abuse does occur.

By: Loner on 12/20/11 at 12:57

Well, I ranted enough here for one day, I'll try to get back here at 4:20....Loner out.

By: brrrrk on 12/20/11 at 1:11

Loner said

"Nothing new in this case, Yogi always digs into the personal birth narrative of each and every presidential candidate, looking for usurpers, Muslims and Communists.....he's been doing that ever since he was old enough to vote....no, nothing especially racist about this ...nothing new, Yogi always digs for the birth data on these guys.....right Yogi?"

Loner, seriously, what can you expect from someone who seems to get most of his news from World Net Daily. Any group that gives someone like David Barton a pulpit to spout his made up history (and I would go so far as to call it out right lying) has no credibility in my book.

By: yogiman on 12/20/11 at 1:54

Loner,

It wasn't because a black man was nominated for the president's office. It was because of who the man was. It was because he used so much fake data showing who he was. Hell, no one knew the guy when his name was put on the ticket.

He was only known in Illinois until he went into the Senate and had only been there two years before he was "elected" as our president? And we still don't know the guy. And I'd say... as much as I've looked into his past, I know a hell of a lot more than you. The only reason you have given in his favor so far is because he's a black man.

I ask again: Why was the affidavit given to the Hawaiian Sec. of State different than the one given the other 49 Secs. of State? Look it up and explain why it is different.

And by the way: For your information I voted for a black man for the office in 2008 but it sure wasn't Barry Soetoro. He was a natural born citizen; fact known.

By: yogiman on 12/20/11 at 2:08

You must have an awful thin book, brrrrk. And you apparently can't read too well. I only "dig dirt" when I have a strong suspension on the subject. Especially someone running for the Oval Office of my nation.

It just doesn't seem to be the same as your nation because you don't care if whomever is in the office is in there legally or not. Hell, just open the door and let them in.. its OK.

By: BenDover on 12/20/11 at 2:33

codyle, just skip all the yogi posts and any post responding to yogi and it's pretty bearable.

By: Kosh III on 12/20/11 at 2:48

yogi
"He was only known in Illinois until he went into the Senate and had only been there two years before he was "elected" as our president?"

He gave the keynote speech at the Democratic convention in 2004. on National television in prime time. O yeah, except on Faux News.
He was a State Senator for 8 years.
Maybe you didn't pay attention, but some folks knew him well before he ran for Prez.
Heck, they even knew him before he released his LONG FORM BIRTH CERTIFICATE showing he was born in the US.

By: Kosh III on 12/20/11 at 2:50

PS He was in the US Senate 4 years, not two. IIRC

Now, let's talk about something intelligent, like the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow.

By: yogiman on 12/20/11 at 2:56

I'll buy that, BenDover. But let me throw this one at you bout your usurper in office.

Have you seen the official display of the national 2011 Christmas tree on display yet? It's funny, it displays Barack Obama's name, but not Christ's.

It seems like there is an ornament on the tree at a height of about 4 feet that says: "I love (heart shown) President Obama".

Yet there is no ornament visible to anyone standing near the base of the tree that uses the word "Christians", or includes an image of the Nativity or bear the name or image of Jesus Christ.

I wonder why. Do you know?

By: yogiman on 12/20/11 at 3:04

OK, Kosh III. I made a mistake in years, but I haven't made a mistake on questioning who he is. And by the way, that piece of paper he showed as a long form birth certificate is a known fake.

The head of the Hawaiian Health Dept. said half of his birth certificate was written in pencil. Where did that computer written certificate come from? Can the computer change the pencil writings into printed writings?

By: yogiman on 12/20/11 at 3:06

Oh, by the way, that sparrow can fly at a speed of 42.375MPH when flying downhill with the wind.
