What's next for George Zimmerman following the jury's verdict in the Trayvon Martin killing? What's next for gun laws and race relations?

Maybe next time, BigPapa he will do as the police told him not to and not take matters into his on hands.

Trayvon Martin was a victim though. A victim of a culture that taught him to rage against civil society rather than to be a part of it. He's a victim of a political class that derives its power from divisiveness and preaches a zero sum game mentality that destroys the hope and promise of young African American men just to maintain enough discord to justify its own continuing existence. He was taught from a young age to dwell on unfairness rather than to ignore the things he cannot change and to persevere via the many opportunities offered to overcome such injustices.

By example, he's a victim of our police state that teaches him that the odds of him doing time in prison add up to an almost certainty because 1 in 8 black males between the ages of 18 and 35 are serving sentences AT THIS MOMENT and there's no doubt the mentors of his circumstance were among them.

Trayvon was a victim... as was Zimmerman... as are thousands of people every day in this country; victims of a subset of our society society bent on perpetuating angst for political gain and, in the case of the media and rap music industry, perpetuating angst for profit.

Some how Ben you left out that if Zimmerman had done what he was told to do by the police, we would not be having this conversion. You also left out all of the John Wayne movies and the Hollywood myth, that a man shoots first and then ask questions.

"Not guilty is not a declaration of innocent."
Correct. Zimmerman is innocent---just like OJ Simpson.

Zimmerman is not guilty; case should be closed. But Sharpton, Jackson and the new Black Panthers will rag on it and ride it to some other level. They are interlopers who should be in jail.

Ben you are correct. But if the black community is so aware of their statistics, why don't the black mouth pieces such as Jackson and Sharpton do something to solve the problem rather than just let it ride.

On the same day trayvon was killed, how many other black children and teens died in Chicago, NY, LA, Louisiana, and other metropolitan cities? Many, probably. No one is calling for His Highness Eric Holder to open up a federal case for them.

Capt. No one does what they are "told to do". You certainly don't. So why should Zimmerman? He's got the right to make choices. Martin was the aggressor.

A jury selected by the Prosecutor and the Defense didn't find enough evidence to convict - so NOT GUILTY is enough for most logical people.

The little chubby girlfriend was a liar to start with; said she was 16 and was actually 18. Either can't count or is a liar -- or both.

By: BenDover on 7/15/13 at 8:36

He did exactly what he was told. When asked which way he was running he got out of his car so he could answer the question. When the dispatcher asked if he was following he said yes, at which point the dispatcher said "we don't need you to do that" and then Zimmerman said OK and headed back to his vehicle. After hanging up with the police 2 minutes later the police arrived on scene and it had all gone down already.

The thing Zimmerman did wrong was to be competent in his neighborhood watch responsibilities.

Fix it? Their whole race-baiting strife-encouraging empires are built on it, bud.

Just because I don’t coward from the likes of you bud, that does not mean I don’t do what I am asked to do.

As for the aggressor, if Zimmerman had not been playing want-to-be-cop, you would not be showing your lack of understanding, among other things.

By: gdiafante on 7/15/13 at 8:40

The thing Zimmerman did wrong was to be competent in his neighborhood watch responsibilities.

If only more citizens would be so competent there would never be any unarmed black teens legally walking down the street.

By: bfra on 7/15/13 at 8:41

Ben - You in your made up fabrication shows to be as funny as bud calling someone else chubby!

This just shows you that you have no idea of what a neighborhood watch is all about, Ben. First rule is that you don’t care a weapon and the second is you don’t get in harms way.

He was not competent at all, Ben. If anything he was a way over his head.

By: BenDover on 7/15/13 at 8:48

It is not made up at all bfra. What was made up was the idea that Trayvon was some little teen angel and not an angst filled assailant who got killed when he attacked the neighborhood watch guy.

Well at least I don't have 2 necks. So back at 'cha, fatso.

I'm signing off. Have a great day Ben, Yogi, everyone.

By: bfra on 7/15/13 at 8:52

Ben - It is well documented that Zimmerman DID NOT do as he was instructed or was supposed to. So your tale is fabrication!

By: bfra on 7/15/13 at 8:54

Bud - You are the one that put your fatty picture on the internet & for some reason & wanted everybody to see it. That & your baldy husband. If you don't want people to know facts, don't post the evidence.

By: gdiafante on 7/15/13 at 8:57

What was made up was the idea that Trayvon was some little teen angel and not an angst filled assailant who got killed when he attacked the neighborhood watch guy.

Yes. Of course, we don't really know why Trayvon attacked Zimmerman because dead kids tell no tales. Oh wait, we do. We do know that he knew someone was following him and, much like Zimmerman, exhibited extremely poor judgment in confronting him.

Unfortunately, the "stand you ground" law, as interpreted by this jury, doesn't allow people being able to defend themselves without a gun. What a shame.

By: govskeptic on 7/15/13 at 8:59

A civilian operator on the phone stated "You don't need to do that" to Zimmerman
as to the "are you following him" question. This has turned into the Prosecution's
virtually only proven fact in the entire case other than this young man's death.

By: yogiman on 7/15/13 at 9:01

I just saw a hilarious show. I don't know where it happened, but a bunch of people chased a gang of New Black Panthers out of town when they came to harass a white man in front of his home who had killed two black men to stop them when they broke in and was stealing from his neighbor's home.

By: Captain Nemo on 7/15/13 at 9:02

The jury did not ruled that Zimmerman was innocent, they ruled not guilty. If they had been asked to rule him innocent, I think they would have had a hard time of making that decision.

By: gdiafante on 7/15/13 at 9:04

There is one more fact, gov, that you seem to omit. Martin was unarmed.

By: Captain Nemo on 7/15/13 at 9:05

Comrade yogi is seeing things again. TAKE YOUR MORNING MEDS FOOL.

By: Captain Nemo on 7/15/13 at 9:07

I found out why Comrade, yogi want meet me a the Hess. He has been told not to come there anymore. LOL

By: BigPapa on 7/15/13 at 9:09

I doubt there will be a "next time" for Zimmerman. Im sure he'll be happy to go back to tying to be a normal person.

Now if "the community" will start looking at how many kids will get shot in Chicago by the end of the week instead of looking at the shiny object. In short, heal thy self.

By: govskeptic on 7/15/13 at 9:09

gdiafante: Thanks for a real fact that comes after the fact, you could also state
he was only 17, again after the incident was over, a during the
testimony weapon turned out to be well settled concrete. The
crux of the entire case.

By: Captain Nemo on 7/15/13 at 9:12

Apples and Oranges, BigPapa.

By: gdiafante on 7/15/13 at 9:13

Everything comes after the fact gov. Laughable.

By: pswindle on 7/15/13 at 9:15

This is just the beginning for George. He will not come out a winner.

By: Captain Nemo on 7/15/13 at 9:16

It was also stated during the trial that Zimmerman’s injuries not life threatening, gov.

By: gdiafante on 7/15/13 at 9:16

Let's compare it to the Kennedy assassination, Papa. I only say so because the only criteria you use to compare is the fact that someone was shot.

Personally, I think it's more like the Hamilton/Burr duel...so we need to discuss gun violence in 1804 New Jersey.

By: BenDover on 7/15/13 at 9:17

Cling on to your illusions gents. Zimmerman was not pursuing Martin... he was trying to answer the dispatchers question as to where Martin was going. When the dispatcher said, "we don't need you to do that" Martin said "OK" and headed back to meet the cop.

From this and a lot of creative reporting by the media has grown the politically convenient myth of Zimmerman hunting N!ggers. But wanting it to be true doesn't make it so.

Did Zimmerman hang up from his call and say to himself... "Cops will be here soon... I better shoot this little thug before the police get here"?... That's ridiculous. Cops arrived 2 minutes after Zimmerman hung up to find Zimmerman with a broken bloody nose and bashed back of the head and a dead Martin with wounds consistent with Zimmernan's described defense. Witnesses testified that one was pounding on the other and Zimmerman was the only one with poundee wounds.

What's strange is how the Jury got it right with all the the suppressed evidence about Martin's history.

By: yogiman on 7/15/13 at 9:18

But, govskeptic, when the operator told him he didn't need to "do that" Zimmerman said OK and was on his way back to his car. Trayvon came up behind him and knocked him down.

I don't know about you guys, but today I "never leave home without it". I readily admit, I'm not the man I used to be physically and I'm not going to just stand there and let some young "child" beat the hell out of me.

Did any of you see the Hannity show last night when he was talking to Zimmerman with his lawyer sitting there with him? Was he lying?

By: gdiafante on 7/15/13 at 9:21

Ben, Martin's history is irrelevent. Only what was going on that night.

What's strange is how the Jury got it right because it falls in line with my opinion. If the verdict were different, I would be on here whining the opposite.

Fixed that for ya. No need to thank me...

From this report, no wonder you don't know what went on! When was Martin on the phone with the dispatcher & when did he head back (from where) to meet what cop. Your stories really get mixed up when you make them up.

By: Captain Nemo on 7/15/13 at 9:33

There is a funny thing about justice, like with O. J. Simpson. He got away with murder, but he is now in prison. Zimmerman may have to face a civil trial like Simpson. Zimmerman can never use a gun in self-defense, because of this issue. He is too well known now as a gun toting want-to-be-cop.

Just the fact that there are so many people out there hates him and his fears that someone will shoot him, will make his life a living hell. I think justice will have its day.

By: yogiman on 7/15/13 at 9:51

bfra,

Only two men knew what was going on that night; and no one on this sate was one of them. And now, only one man knows what went on. That is a fact. You can ramp and rave all you're little hearts desire but you have no idea what happened.

By: Captain Nemo on 7/15/13 at 9:52

Comrade yogi asked his North Korean handler, “How do you get to the other side of street?" His handler answer, “You are on the other side of the street, stupid.”

By: bfra on 7/15/13 at 9:56

Nemo - Brainless blob rants about any & everything. He never knows what is going on and tries to act like he is the expert on everything. The ding dong is bananas!

By: yogiman on 7/15/13 at 9:57

How about giving me a little history of myself, dumba$$. I can only remember I didn't know many idiots like you, only a few. Was you one of them, perhaps? You "sound" like one of them back then.

I can only wish you was in one of those boxing clubs in my younger days. We could have had a good ole knock down, drag out, fight on a Saturday night. That is, if you could have done anything more than a jab.

By: BenDover on 7/15/13 at 10:27

There was only 2 minutes between the time Zimmerman hung up with the dispatcher and the cop arrived bfra. That's all from the transcript.

The problem is that you are predisposed by the media's FALSE earlier reporting of Zimmerman using words like 'coon' and the chopped up MSNBC tape that sparked the whole Race angle.

The race industry, the anti-gun movement and the media wanted a show case of a racist white man murdering a black child and they bent their reporting to propose as much. By the time it came out that Zimmerman was neither white nor racist nor a murderer; and that Trayvon wasn't the little angel child of liberal journalists' wet dreams, the public outrage had enough momentum of its own to want blood for innocent little Trayvon anyway.

By: dargent7 on 7/15/13 at 10:39

Zimmerman's life is ruined,...like Benard Goetz.
6 morons on "the jury" let him 'walk",...but he'll never be free. Like OJ.
He stalked the kid, confronted him, and shot him in the heart. Now, at 29, he's a parahia.
The 'Stand Your Ground" law in FL is an abomination.
Juries in America are circus acts. As are the courtrooms.

By: dargent7 on 7/15/13 at 10:47

BO @ 9:01 am...victim of society?
No, being black in a predominently white community.
Then you have a vigilante, self imposed "Neighborhood Watch"....
who grew some balls because he had a 9mm.
Now, his life is OVER. Besides some idiotic right wing Baptist church who'll embrace him and his actions.

By: govskeptic on 7/15/13 at 10:47

For those that don't know the law of self-defense or didn't hear the judge read it in
the jury charge: The amount of injury, seriousness, or absolutely no injury at all
doesn't make any difference when applying self-defense. Much has been made
by many commentators on the small amount of injury to Zimmerman, but again
none required. Additionally, it's not against the law to follow someone generally,
even if suggested not to. I suppose a domestic court order situation is an exception.
These are what the jury was instructed to go by. The state was boxed in with their
lack of proof and witnesses. This problem works both ways for either side in a
great many cases.

By: brrrrk on 7/15/13 at 10:49

dargent7 on 7/15/13 at 11:39

"The 'Stand Your Ground" law in FL is an abomination."

It's a license for every peckerwood with a handgun to start a fight and claim self defense when they shoot someone simply because they're getting their ass handed to them.... hence forward known as the "Zimmerman defense"
