Up for Debate: Who's running the state fair

Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at 12:24am

How do you feel about the Tennessee State Fair Association — approved to run the fair again this year — being the same group that supported a bill that would allow state government to oversee the fair? Do you fear the state fair could move outside of Nashville or would you welcome that change?

Ben, the police dept. could use this last year of the Fair, to serve some of those warrants thats been piling up.

That is OK Ben; I don’t drive anywhere neat TSU of Vanderbilt on Graduation Day. I leave Nashville during Fan Fair or what ever it is called today. I stay away from on Titan and Predators home game. Too many pick pockets and potential muggers, for my taste.

The last time I went to the fair was to take my youngest daughter and her friend. I lost interest in the fair after I had children. Seems the old I get the fun of the fair dissipates. Now Star Trek Conventions are fun. lol

I hear that yogi is good at hog calling at the fairs in Middle Tennessee.

Moonglow1: Perhaps Councilman Banks from District 4 should oversee The Fair.

Councilman Banks has just completed his "john" class so should be well qualified to deal with The Fair patrons who some have characterized as thugs and unsavory.

Ben - What do think is around every time you walk out of where you live. Thugs & homeless love that area.

Captain Nemo......... Why would I have known that you had rather go down with your ship than live a life that you cannot comprehend in your wildest dreams?

I again think your choice of going down with the ship is a good one.

Rasp sounds ill today. The chauffeur must have farted in the limousine, on the way to the club.

Moonglow1: Does anyone have a job description for a "john" class instructor? What are the job qualifications? A Bachelor's in psychology? Behavior mod? What?
What is the salary range?
Most importantly, is this class taught and funded by the state for wayward state and county officials? Does it have the Haslam stamp of approval?
Inquiring minds and concerned taxpayers want an answer.
Sorry for the double post earlier. My Blackberry messed up.

I heard that a lady named Debbie, is head instructor in ''John'' school.

By: slacker on 5/16/12 at 8:28

Debbie works for tips.

Rasputin if you think by you living on a garbage scow is all to in all, then I hope you are happy. I think that going down on the Submarine Nautilus is a much better adventure.

But if you choose... :-)

Those that brag about have more than other, really has nothing.

Speaking of Rasputin…it is trash day.

Don't know about the Tennessee fair... I always thought it was a bit of a bust. But I know my home states State Fair stills draws them in like gangbusters. Wouldn't you agree GD?

By: gdiafante on 5/16/12 at 9:02

I would agree, Brrrrk. I miss the PA fair.

Two things you had to go to every year.... the York Fair and the Farm Show in Harrisburg.

By: gdiafante on 5/16/12 at 9:20

I don't know if or when I'll get back to York. I only have one relative still there, and she spends much of her time in Florida with the grandkids. I have a few cousins in Philly, which is likely where we'll be visiting.

By: bfra on 5/16/12 at 9:55

The biggest & best State Fairs I have enjoyed, were TX & NV. Haven't had the pleasure of PA, but I'll bet it is great. I have never attended any State Fair that I didn't enjoy. Guess I still have some of the kid in me.

As for Ben not driving out Nolensville Rd/ during the State Fair, doubt that anyone cares!

By: gdiafante on 5/16/12 at 10:03

There are parts of Nolensville road I'll drive, but would never stop. I get what he means though. I'd add parts of M'boro road too.

By: bfra on 5/16/12 at 10:07

gdiafante - You should include down town, also. Especially after dark. However, Nolensville Rd., during the fair, is no different except at times, the traffic.

By: gdiafante on 5/16/12 at 10:11

Yep, downtown too. And north Nashville...and east...and west...the point is, there are places in every city that you probably don't want to go.

By: bfra on 5/16/12 at 10:13

In times past, I loved to bar (honky tonk) hop up & down Broad. Could hear some great music, but now, not without protection.

By: gdiafante on 5/16/12 at 10:16

Broad/2nd isn't that bad. Strength in numbers. But venture away from that area and good luck.

By: gdiafante on 5/16/12 at 10:18

I remember buying a cymbal at a pawn shop off Broadway when I was a kid...circa early to mid 1980's...downtown was complete dump.

By: bfra on 5/16/12 at 10:23

Some areas on 2nd, N of Broad I don't go. A lot of it has to do with how the business is managed & the clientele (using the word broadly) they draw.

Why do you react so quick when I make my hog call, nimrod? Keep your nose out of my hog's feeder..
