Do you agree with Finance Director Rich Riebeling when he calls the proposed deal between Metro and the Renaissance Hotel over the Nashville Convention Center a "win-win situation"?
If, "The best you can hope for is to die in your sleep",then I guess you can call the agreement with the hotel a Win,Win arrangement.
Rent free rent on the meeting spaces and ballroom for 30 years, and parking spaces for 99 years. The hotel will, in turn, set aside a block of rooms for the new convention center for 20 years.
Yes, that certainly sounds like a win win deal for all concerned. Especially if one uses the Karl Dean slide rule.
I wonder, if the mayor and city council were to incur personal financial obligation for their decisions, would they make the same decisions.
I'm not very familiar with this topic but, on first glance, it seems that the Renaissance got a pretty good deal.
I smell a rat.
That's raspy, he slept in the gutter last night. True story.
The aroma of cheap gin and Grey Poupon is in the air...that could explain it.
Sounds like somebody leaped before looking on the convention center fiasco(s)....this is apt to occur when the passion of a sweetheart deal overpowers the power of reason.
Whether it's a new school, a new library a new mall, a new convention center or whatever, it's always a good idea to figure out what to do with the facility that is being replaced, before beginning construction of the replacement facility...of course, the heated emotions of breaking new ground for a sexy new project usually overshadow the less than sexy task of disposing of the old facility.....ergo, lots of abandoned or moribund hulks blight most cities.
Did I forget to say, "Good morning, Nashville"? Sorry about that....it's a crisp & clear morning here, on the Erie Canal...another snowstorm is headed our way....another month of this crap and Spring will be on its way....I'm missing Brushwood this morning....Winters are just a little too long up here.
Gdiafante, what were you doing looking in gutters this early morning?
Looking for you, my friend. I worry about you when it rains. You might catch a cold.
Not to change the subject or anything, but did I miss the local coverage of US Rep. Steve Cohen's recently revealed sexual indiscretions? Dirty laundry like that usually stinks up the place for a while....what gives?
Cohen is a liberal and he was never married....and he is not one of those born-again preachy types, so there is not so much hypocrysy here; but, since Cohen is a Democrat, I am surprised that the Tea Baggers did not excoriate him.
Did I miss the local coverage?
I suppose when one deal goes sour, then when some other deal comes along you make the best of it.
Gdiafante, I appreciate your concern but you were looking in the wrong state this time of year. Be careful looking in the Palm Beach gutters one of our finest may think you are a guttersnipe.
June and up until mid July are the best time to patrol the Nashville gutters. Since you have concern check the Highlands,N.C. gutters in August.

If, "The best you can hope for is to die in your sleep"
This sound as if this might be a wish Raspy dreams of before going to bed. To dir in his sleep and end his miserable life.
Our resident bon vivant, the Rasp, is a frequent flyer....every afternoon....passing the bag that holds the bottle....waiting for the shelter to open. Poor devil.
I appreciate your concern but you were looking in the wrong state this time of year.
That's true. I didn't search the state of denial. Thanks for the heads-up, buddy.
"State of denial"...LOL....check the "inebriated state" when doing your rounds, Gd...the Rasp could be holed up there.
The only way Rasputin gets to travel is when a city or private citizen gives him money for a bus ticket out of town.
I think that I may have located the template for Rasputin's business card...right here:
LOL Loner, the thin guy image on the card might be what is seen in Raspy’s minds eye, but to the rest of the world he is much rounder and much larger.
On a more serious note, it looks like John Kerry is about to make his first big media splash as Sec. of State...he's about to do a cannonball, from the high board, in London, England.
The splash will be heard and felt in Damascus....looks like President Obama has had enough of Assad's butchery....the question remains: Who are these "rebels"? More Jihadist savagery could be in store for the region.
Since Russia has a naval base on the Syrian coast, this thing could get out of hand.
Meanwhile, the Palestinians, functionally abandoned by the Obama administration and frustrated, are set for another Intifada....and Jordan's Hashemite kingdom is experiencing some possibly foreshadowing political tremors too....and then there's Netanyahu's crude bomb diagram he used at the UN....his "red line" to strike Iran is approaching.
Maybe, what we need in the US, to get all this sequestration stuff off the screens, is a good old-fashioned global war? Nothing like a good distraction to ease the pressure to act. Trouble is, it could go nuclear quickly.
The underclass and the 5,000 dollar a month class are certainly snarly, surly and snarky this morning. Each wishing that an election could be held this morning with the primary ballot agenda being, Should people who have achieved financial success be stripped of their discretionary income?
The temperature here is conducive to a round of golf this morning with lunch on the clubveranda followed by what may be several rounds of stimulating games of gin rummy at a dime a point. Before dinner at the Palm Beach Grill I will check in to see what outrages you have covered.
I love you all and appreciate your being reason for me to be thanful.
Captain, the Rasp is a big dog? He's always saying, "Let the big dog eat." I always imagined him as a bitter, shriveled up, old guy, with a rich fantasy life.

The underclass and the 5,000 dollar a month class are certainly snarly, surly and snarky this morning.
If I had that much money it would be great. But now the state is cracking down of food stamps, I want be able to buy my lottery tickets, with them anymore.
Loner, have you ever noticed that when Raspy gets his butt kick, he runs off to his fantasy world?
Rasp provides me with reasons to be thankful too...a true win-win situation.
Anyone else picture old Raspy in plaid shorts, Hawaiian shirt, over-the-ankle-high black socks, sandals, an old fedora and smoking a cigar? lol
Did we kick his butt? I thought I was going for a head shot....my mistake.
The Rasp does provide us with entertainment....I thank him for that.
I pee in my pants again.
So far we have had 13 and counting post about Raspy. Now old fart will have to work extra hard to get our attention, brass yourselves. LOL
Gd, I Googled it...this is the Rasp:
Uhhh, on second thought, ....maybe this one?
No, THIS is definitely the dude that you described, Gd:
Is that Grey Poupon on his air-mattress?
Fifteen Rasp-related posts?....gotta be a slow news day....we gotta take it up a notch.
Karl Dean should be indicted. Worst mayor ever.
How can you swear he slept in the gutter last night, gdiafante; was you in there with him?
What's your beef, Bob?
Oy, it's troll tag-team at the NCP this morning....the usurpologist is here.
Yogi still struggles with conjugating the English verb, "to be"....Yogi asked: "was you in there with him?" And this is after speaking English as his native language for eight decades....no wonder then, that people find it so hard to learn English as a second language....it still baffles the likes of Yogi.
He got a third grade ed-u kation. What do you expect from him.

a$$, you couldn't even pass a spelling test, let alone a test of intelligence.
Want to try one? Check on google or bing and take a test.
By: Captain Nemo on 1/26/13 at 3:33
I took the test yogi and a made a 100.
By: yogiman on 1/26/13 at 7:30
I feel so humiliated, dumba$$, to get beat by an idiot as ignorant as you.
Your own word says I am smarter than you, yogi.
Just wondering: Could your thoughts on Rasputin72 be the same as your thoughts on "Barack Obama" since you obviously don't know what you're thinking about?
Maybe a little research would work a little better for you.
How about checking the First Congress of 1790 and the Thirds Congress of 1795 to check what they though a natural born citizen is.
Do you interpret their findings the same as I? And by the way, I understand if you don't
Ignore the english-butchering racist.
The Green Day Play about yogi will be playing in Nashville soon.
The American Idiot.
The Usurpologist quickly goes about his work....he is obsessed that a black Muslim Communist, born in a mud hut in Kenya, is now President of the United States...it's a lonely task, as most of his fellow birther buddies have conceded defeat on the issue....only a few die-hard birthers are still keeping the faith...it's so 2008.
I agree, Gd, ignore the English butchering racist....that's all we can do.
You are the joke yogi.
Well, Loner, I believe you took you English classes in Nuyawk. I took mine 'down south' and I believe we have a better language than you.
I'm still looking for the perfectionism in your language. And understand, you aren't alone.
Where are Slacker, Bfra, Blanket, Darge and Ben & Gov this morning?
We need fresh input...we need more jollies.
It took the dumb-ass a month to come up with a come back. Let the little pee!
This looks like another hosing, negotiated by our buy high sell low mayor.
The loss of income from 180 metro owned parking spaces.. for 99 yrs...should be enough motivation for the council to stop this giveaway.
Maybe our city leaders might try to SELL the property, and actually require the buyer to pay property taxes afterward.
Nuyawk? This has to be the sound makes in the pig pen, when he calls his lovers to him.
