Up for Debate: Zimmerman charged in Martin's death

Thursday, April 12, 2012 at 2:53am

A special prosecutor announced Wednesday that George Zimmerman had been charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin. What do you think about the decision to prosecute now, after the late February incident?

Cpt: That guy's all over the news. Says OJ's son killed those two people, Nicole and Ron.

I voted for Obama because
1. Not a Republican
2. Not born overseas
3. Offered better policies than giving out welfare to rich corporations
4. Had a seasoned politician for VP, not a PR stunt
5. Seemed to have a better idea for recovery from the Bush Recession than McCain who kept saying everything was OK with the economy.
6. Was not born overseas

By: Captain Nemo on 4/12/12 at 7:20

yogi, does this mean you voted for McCain because he is white?

By: gdiafante on 4/12/12 at 7:21

I voted for Obama because I thought he was not Bush. I suspect many did the same.

I voted against Obama because he is black

Isn't it spelled "purty" in TN?

By: dargent7 on 4/12/12 at 7:37

By 2008 everyone with an IQ over 70 knew Bush's "War in Iraq" and WMD's was total bullshit. Everyone.
Obama was a fresh face. Promised "Hope & Change".
If McCain and that bobble-head got into office, we'd still be in Iraq, and N. Korea, and bomb Iran.
Personally, I vote for RESTRAINT, especially militarily.
Republicans are as a whole, war-mongers. A fearful, paranoid group, beholden to the Military-Industrial Complex.
Nothing good can come out of Rayethon who manufactures Tomahawk missiles at $1.2 million a copy.
Nothing.

By: BenDover on 4/12/12 at 7:40

I predict he'll get the acquittal... then he, Casey Anthony and OJ will be approached by NBC to do a real life Hunger Game show.

By: Captain Nemo on 4/12/12 at 7:50

I think it would be more suitable for FOX News Ben.

By: yogiman on 4/12/12 at 7:52

Kosh III,

You apparently voted for Barry through idiocy. You say he wasn't born overseas. Where was he born? How do you know? Do you actually know his name? Didn't think so.

I voted for Obama because I thought he was not Bush. I suspect many did the same.

Interesting G. Ever notice that Bush's name has been mentioned MORE during the Odrama administration than it ever was mentioned during Bush's 8 years? That's cause Odrama needs to have someone to blame his failures on.

Kosh by Gosh said: "3. Offered better policies than giving out welfare to rich corporations"

Yeah, Kosh. Better policies like the 1 billion dollars we paid for the past 12 months for FREE cell phones. FREE? FREE? My tax dollars going to pot! I know some of those FREE cell phone folks who own a DROID, plus have 2 free gov'ment cell phones. ONE BILLION AND CLIMBING.

I would rather our money goe to corporations that are hiring millions of people. Tell me oh great City Paper Leaders: If we get rid of all corporations in America, where exactly will the JOBS be? HMMMMMMMMMMMM!\\

I am so realizing why I have not been on this site for months now. Whew! You people exhaust me.

Did OJ kill Nichole? Probably Did his son kill Nicole? Motive please? Probably not! Just another theory. Maybe his 9 year old daughter did it. Right! Anyway, I'm sure Zimmerman will NOT get a fair trial. The deck is already stacked.

Then if he is found guilty, some 20 years from now, some right wing, liberal union of wanna be lawyers will dig deeper into his case and get him off -- AFTER his life is ruined by the media and the publicity mongers.

I love it when G is riled up; don't you Yogi? It's so entertaining to read this City Paper saga!

By: Captain Nemo on 4/12/12 at 7:58

I no (sic) that Obama is not an American because he is black and that makes him a(sic) Afreecan.(sic)

dargent7,

Ain't it great Obama bombed Libya without congress' approval? I've always thought the president had to get congress' approval unless we were under attack.

And when did congress decide he only needed to get the okay from the UN to go into war? Are we following a new Constitution now? One written by Barry Soetoro?

By: BenDover on 4/12/12 at 8:03

No time to read back through the earlier posts.

I hope she's got some more evidence than what has come out already because if she doesn't she's just ruining Zimmerman's life for political reasons and for a show trial that will end badly anyway. The court circus will just make it all worse (but could put the explosion off until after the election so maybe that's their goal).

I don't think stand your ground applies in this circumstance if Treyvon was beating him as described and then Zimmerman pulled the trigger. That's clearly self defense.

The voice analysis is an interesting twist... but I'm not sure if it changes anything. Had it been Zimmerman (and possibly it still could be) it could have been highly exculpatory.

By: budlight on 4/12/12 at 8:04

I am voting for o'drama next time cause I want a free cell phone; want my student loan abolished; want a free house; free food; free car; free gas and free clothing. I am renaming him to FREE-bama!

I want all of your incomes to go down and your taxes to go up. I want all of you who are sitting in your comfortable beach front condos to have to share them with me. I want all of you who have a retirement plan that is funded to give me 1/2 of it so that I can be 1/2 as comfortable as you all are now.

I want every corporation in America to close their doors so we can all have small businesses to run. Oh, like the ones Bill Gates and Steve Jobs Started in garages, etc. Oh yeah. Not a good idea. Every good business idea eventually ends up in the evil realm of a corporation -- just ask Jobs, Gates, Google, YaHoo, EBay and zillions more of those mom and pop start ups that were forced to become DIRTY CORPORATIONS SO THEY COULD HIRE MILLIONS OF PEOPLE.

You people exhaust me.

Oh my gosh. Whew! I just woke up out of the nightmare. I thought I was saying I was going to vote for ODRAMA. It was a nighmare! Thank heavens!~

By: gdiafante on 4/12/12 at 8:10

I love it when G is riled up; don't you Yogi? It's so entertaining to read this City Paper saga!

Your comprehension skills are lacking. I'm not riled up. Though your posts are embarrassing to educated people, they are not unexpected. But, I still find myself surprised that people still think that way...even down here. Like I said, it's embarrassing.

By: budlight on 4/12/12 at 8:10

Ben, I agree with you. And the special prosecutor spent way too much time explaining her "duty" regarding this case. She's setting it up for something. I will bet that more lives will be lost in this case than we care to think about. It is sad that the media is such an out of control entity. They should know better than to "doctor" and "paste" up their reports. But they do anyway. I hope someone gets some charges in that. If they do, I'm sure Odrama will defend their rights to freedom of speech.

Have a nice day. You too, G. I need to get to my $7.25 an hour job. It's so rewarding. OMG! When are you guys going to get the government to pay me a living wage of $10 an hour -- or better yet, I'm worth $20. Get on it! Lobby Lobby Lobby and get 'er done!

By: Captain Nemo on 4/12/12 at 8:12

It seems to me that it is the troll monkey is the one all riled up and not Kosh. I can see the antagonism in the way she spells it out… "Yeah, Kosh. Better policies like the 1 billion dollars we paid for the past 12 months for FREE cell phones. FREE? FREE? My tax dollars going to pot! I know some of those FREE cell phone folks who own a DROID, plus have 2 free gov'ment cell phones. ONE BILLION AND CLIMBING."

Maybe if she asks nice she can get her two cents of tax back. LOL

By: gdiafante on 4/12/12 at 8:16

When are you guys going to get the government to pay me a living wage of $10 an hour

Judging by your posts, you're lucky to be paid minimum wage. There's probably special education students that could perform any task better than you.

dargent7,

Ain't it great Obama bombed Libya without congress' approval? I've always thought the president had to get congress' approval unless we were under attack.

It sure is and Libya and it does not have Gadhafi anymore. Or is it that you wanted it to be like it was....yogi.

By: budlight on 4/12/12 at 8:20

I did not say Kosh was riled up. He's calm, cool and collected. It's G that gets riled up - IMO!

And I bet none of you are even aware of the FREE Cell Phone program our gov'ment is spending a billion a year on -- and it's climbing. Free Cell Phones? Is that in the constitution under freedom of Speech! LOL

And Capt.'s new name is Troll Junkie cause you can't seem to stay away from the use of the word Troll!

And you are such an expert on how much I pay in taxes so you must be part of the IRS - Irritating Repulsive Socialist! OH, that was bad! Even I think it was bad.

Have a nice day.

Welcome to Jamaica and Have a Nice Day.

I wonder, how can you tell if someone is riled up, Bud? All caps? Exclamation points?

Hmmm...there were four words/abbreviations in all caps and three sentences with exclaimation points in your last post alone...who is riled up again? lol

By: Captain Nemo on 4/12/12 at 8:27

Little known facts;

Dick Cheney would not let George W. Bush have a cell phone, because he was afraid that he would let the cat out of the bag and would get both of them impeached.

By: Captain Nemo on 4/12/12 at 8:30

No bud I don’t have the hot's for you. I am diseased free think you and tent to stay that way.

But think you anyway.

I don’t blame you Ben, they are your people.

I’ve got to go myself.

Capt. READ your post. "think you" and "tent to stay" but "think you anyway".

Too much sauce? Or not enough education?
You must be from the south cause you can't spell!

AND G! I'm using caps for "emphasis" or couldn't you, oh smarter than anyone else one, figure that out by yo-little 'ole seff! (Mis-spellings on purpose for emphasis).

Capt. if Yogi's diaper is starting to smell, yours has started to biodegrade! You've been sitting in it a long time!

By: gdiafante on 4/12/12 at 8:46

AND G! I'm using caps for "emphasis" or couldn't you, oh smarter than anyone else one, figure that out by yo-little 'ole seff! (Mis-spellings on purpose for emphasis).

Aw...what's a matter? Never learned how to emphasize by italics or bold type? In case you didn't know, internet etiquette dictates that all caps equals shouting.

Here ended the lesson.

By: budlight on 4/12/12 at 8:56

Yeah, I knew that. But haven't you heard about "freedom of speech" and "freedom of expression"? So I'm exercising my RIGHTS to use my own "internet etiquette". You should have figured that out because you are such a genius.

Oh, G - genius. Or goof ball? I'd vote for goof ball. Here ended the lesson.

By: gdiafante on 4/12/12 at 9:02

You really are dense. Etiquette has nothing to do with first amendment rights...LOL!!!

When there was only one member of the lunatic fringe posting here (yogi), it was still possible to engage in a semi-rational discussion. Now that this budlight person has entered the picture, there would appear to be no point in even making the attempt.

By: brrrrk on 4/12/12 at 10:57

It's like these guys just can't help themselves when it come to using the language of violence....

Santorum's sugar daddy, Foster Friess: "I Hope Obama's teleprompters Are bulletproof"... Really?

By: brrrrk on 4/12/12 at 11:07

I know a number of people that worked with Bud.... the general consensus... nuttier than a bag of macadamias.

By: brrrrk on 4/12/12 at 11:28

Buds posts are a lot like eating a big salad.... At first glance they look like a lot, but in the end they're mostly air and just aren't that filling.

By: Loner on 4/12/12 at 12:12

Hey kids....the lone one is back....I see where our twin trolls are getting under some people's skins a little bit....that's what they seek...I am ignoring them.

Rick Santorum committed more sins against the 8th Commandment...he's bearing more false witness. Last week he used his daughter's chronic illness as an excuse to step down...today, he claims that he ran out of money....truth is he was about to lose the PA primary...being rejected by one's home state is political death...ask Al Gore.

Santorum, the saintly one, is a bold-face liar, just like the rest of them...he may be self-bullshitizing too...his Super-PAC has plenty of money....he could not afford to be humiliated in Pennsylvania....again.

By: Loner on 4/12/12 at 12:17

Do we need a POTUS who quits whenever one of his sickly kids gets sick again? Santorum would throw in the towel and resign, if one of his kids came down with diarrhea? With Santorum, you gotta look at who the VP would be....Mister Super Dad would leave the affairs of state in the Veep's hands, while he takes his kid to the Emergency Room? Santorum's priorities are not a good fit for the presidency....hopefully, he will fade into the woodwork from whence he came.

By: Kosh III on 4/12/12 at 12:29

"I would rather our money goe to corporations that are hiring millions of people."

Maybe in Communist China but not here.

Where are these alleged jobs? Scott County has an official unemployment rate of 19+%, over half of all Tn counties are over 10%.
No jobs here.

But corporations, like Exxon, which paid almost no taxes, or GE which paid NONE, are spending millions to buy their favorite politician so they can continue to suck off the public teat instead of creating jobs like honest capitalists.

By: Loner on 4/12/12 at 12:58

Kosh...I use Maplight.org for a source...check them out:

http://maplight.org/?9gtype=search&9gkw=MAPLight&9gad=5998216961.1&9gag=1759992521&gclid=CKKAub_9r68CFUfc4AodHER9Hw

I believe that's their homepage. They keep tabs on who got what from whom...Defense, Israel & Energy - the War Super Lobby - have a hammer-lock on federal policy formulation....when one looks at the donations, it's easy to see why this is so...and it's all perfectly legal....and now the fledgling Super-PACs have entered the picture...Maplight is following them too.

When multi-national special interests are able to purchase politicians openly like this, how long can this nation survive as a democracy? To me, this is a national security threat....things are bad when the Defense industry constitutes a security threat to the USA....the Founders would be dumb-founded.

By: BenDover on 4/12/12 at 1:11

Mr Santorum seems to be a really nice guy. Spoke to him briefly at CPAC and he gave a great speech. I think he would have been a really good president. The media seemed to have a vested interest in Romney... the media picked McCain too and we see how that turned out.

I can only expect that the Obama team likes that match-up. Lots of wedges in their tool-kit for a Romney challenge that wouldn't be so effective against Santorum. To think that the same media that gave us McCain isn't pulling the levers and turning the screws for Romney is naive It, too, is the same media that will break out the hatchets as soon as the nomination is locked in and chop him to bits.

If 20/20 and 60 Minutes are not working on a Mormon expose' to lead with after the Republican convention I'll be absolutely shocked.

By: Loner on 4/12/12 at 1:28

Ben met Rick Santorum at a CPAC rally and he concludes that Mr. Santorum is a "nice guy". First hand anecdotal is better than third hand media hype.

I'm sure that Rick is a nice guy...on the outside...squeaky clean, nice hair and haircut...sweater vest...great teeth...male model material....clean-shaven...looks younger than he is....nice family. The Santorums probably have adorable pets too. Very nice.

It's what's inside the man that offends.

Santorum's brand of Catholicism sounds foreign to what I was taught in Catholic school, K-8....he preaches a Southern-fried, born-again, Gospel of Revenge...without the Southern drawl. He's an End Times Expediter....and a Christian Zionist.

Theocracy is not nice and it's not good-looking...that's what's under Santorum's "nice guy" exterior facade.

By: slacker on 4/12/12 at 1:34

I think a lot of Republican primary voters, feared that Santorum would lose more of the undecided vote than Mitt.

By: BenDover on 4/12/12 at 1:35

Well the racist, theocratic, misogynistic, homophobic, and greedy brand of monkey-sh!t the media was flinging seemed to stick to Rick worse than all the others. Has to do with never getting any air-time to defend himself I think.

By: Loner on 4/12/12 at 1:37

I think so too, Slack. That theocracy stuff is burning itself out in America, we have passed a tipping point, IMO...we will return to a more secular mode....given time....if we don't get nuked in a catastrophic Nuclear Holy War and Final Jihad in the meantime.

By: Loner on 4/12/12 at 1:39

Hey...if the foe shits...I mean if the shoe fits, Ben...they gotta wear it.

By: slacker on 4/12/12 at 1:43

Mitt's handler's should stage an event with journalists, for him to welcome questions about his faith.
And they should do it soon.

By: slacker on 4/12/12 at 1:46

They should also advise him to stop wearing jeans, and slinging hash in those soup lines. I've seen him in three of those things, and it doesn't work for the ''Mitt.''

By: BenDover on 4/12/12 at 1:49

Well that's the conventional wisdom but Reagan trounced Carter in the same scenario by igniting the base and appealing to socially conservative working class democrats too. Santorum was highly marginalized in all of this though. No one on the right or left would give him a shot at making his case to a wide-spread audience.

Romney was the Obama campaign's challenger of choice. That's where all the occupy wall street stuff came from. There's more wedges with Romney and Obama will need it to continually morph the attacks so that there's never any focus on the Obama record.
