Letter to the Editor

To the Editor:

How could any middle-class working voter ever be coerced and brainwashed into voting for the right-wing Republican, would-be anarchists, who by their own campaign platforms fly in the face of every American who is not filthy rich?

How can a bloc of rich congressmen who already have made their fortunes and secured their family's health care free or at practically no cost campaign on a promise to repeal everything that President Obama has gotten done for the people?

They want to repeal Social Security, or impose huge cuts on the most needy of our citizenry, Medicare, health care reform and return complete control to the insurance companies that any idiot should know by now are not concerned with your health care but are a bunch of corporate thieves.

They want to repeal the stimulus and stop the slowly improving economy that the president is bringing about.

Along with this they want to repeal or amend the 14th Amendment so as to be able to take of control who is deemed a citizen and who is not whenever they get ready.

They also now want to invalidate freedom of religion by banning the building of more mosques in the United States. They want to deny civil rights to gays and lesbians.

If all this is not enough, they certainly want George W. Bush's tax cuts for the very richest Americans to be extended.

If any sane human being can see anything in their own, self-indicting campaign promises, that will benefit any suffering American except the rich, then he needs to seek help.

If any working person is weak enough to post a Republican ballot, he deserves to suffer the wrath just as under Herbert Hoover and George W. Bush.

To paraphrase a friend recently when entering the voting booth, "It's simple as ABC, like driving a car: Put it in D to go forward and in R to go backward."

"I remember a ton of outrage about the Dubai ports deal. I thought it was wrong to shut down that process just because the war-on-terror ally country that wanted to buy the company from another war-on-terror ally country was Arab. Seems to me that if we can shut down that deal we ought to be able to shut down the 9/11 Mosque on the same premise... plus the fact that it's just damn tacky of them to put it there."

How was Dubai a First Amendment issue? Peaches and Broccoli.

----------------
Tacky? maybe. Illegal, unconstitutional? No. Funny how avowed "conservatives" are sooooo gung ho on the Constitution---except when they aren't.

You want real tacky? Have a sit-down dinner and serve corndogs on paper plates and pick your nose at the table.

By: Loner on 8/12/10 at 8:38

Granted, Kosh, Kagan is a balancing factor on that particular issue, though her weight may tip the bench to the goofy side of jurisprudence, IMO.

Again, IMO, the GBLT issue seems to dominate the woman's agenda and thus cloud her worldview. The gay rights issue is legit, but the nation has more pressing issues, IMO.

Thanks Dooley, flattery will get you everywhere.

Note to posters: The italics HTML seems to have been disabled. I tried to put the phrase "touche?" in my response to Ben (crickets & outrage); the text failed to show up on the screen. Maybe it was something on my end..I'm working a vintage PC....and I'm a vintage guy.

Churches are involved in zoning restriction laws all the time, Kosh. I see no problem with a, 'no terrorist training centers withing 10 miles of ground zero', zoning restriction.

You can't have a church within a block or two of where they sell beer in some places. What's the difference.

By: Kosh III on 8/12/10 at 8:45

Ben
Some of us would not really diagree about the Democratic politicians who are in the pocket of corporations but at least they TRY to do right by the citizenry sometimes as opposed to groveling publicly before their corporate masters like that dkhead who apologized to BP.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 8/12/10 at 8:45

terrorist training center? towel-head corporation? seriously, Ben. i expected you to be above that.

By: BenDover on 8/12/10 at 8:50

The 'towel-head corperation' comment was from the perspective of the racists who did not want the Dubai port deal bn. I was OK with it.

And many mosques are terrorist training centers as well as terrorist fund-raising groups.

By: BenDover on 8/12/10 at 8:51

Loner, I'd love to do back to the days of fiscal irresponsibility where deficits were measured in billions rather than trillions.

By: Loner on 8/12/10 at 8:56

Ben, once again, there you go with another phony analogy. If a mosque is selling beer within a block or two of a church, then your argument would hold water...if not beer.

I do agree, churches and temples exercise way too much control over zoning issues. If churches, temples and mosques paid taxes, they could have a voice, otherwise, they should clam up.

Before anyone says it, No, let's not tax the bastards, then all hell would break out, the wall of seperation would come tumblin' down, Joshua style. Theocracy would flood the fruited plain and I ain't got no ark, do you?

By: BenDover on 8/12/10 at 9:00

" but at least they TRY to do right by the citizenry sometimes "

'right' is a value judgment of their behavior, Kosh. I would say the 'right' thing to do would be to not destroy the country with new and excessive entitlements that we cannot afford. I would say the 'right' thing to do would be, to the degree possible, to let the people who go to the trouble of earning the money have the biggest say in how it is spent. I would say the 'right' thing to do would be to abandon this central planning model that arrogantly believes a handful of eggheads in the federal government know better than the average person (with his self interest and his immediate knowledge about his situation) about how he can best provide for his family and community.

By: JohnGalt on 8/12/10 at 9:06

Mr. Clouse obviously needs a medication adjustment...along with most of the rest of the left wingers here.

By: Loner on 8/12/10 at 9:06

Is it just me? As I read Ben's 10:00 post, I heard Teabaggers chanting in the background, "Trillions fer guns, but nuttin' fer butter....Trillions fer guns, but nuttin' fer butter...."

By: Blanketnazi2 on 8/12/10 at 9:07

or cut down the military complex which is what we really can't afford.

By: BenDover on 8/12/10 at 9:08

I predict no recovery until after the mad duck congress can do no further harm to the country. Repubs won't be able to undo the mess they have created but at least it will stop the bleeding and small business owners will be able to start planning again.

It really depends, though, on how badly they screw us with the tax increases.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 8/12/10 at 9:09

the "excessive entitlements" are a small fraction of what we spend on military.

By: Loner on 8/12/10 at 9:09

Whaddya got, Galt...break out!

By: BenDover on 8/12/10 at 9:11

I think it's the last time we will see democratic majorities in the house and senate with a democrat president several generations to come.

Give it up Wamp, you lost the election.

By: Loner on 8/12/10 at 9:15

Ben's trumpeting triumphalism regarding a predicted GOP landslide in November is duly noted. If anything short of total GOP victory occurs, Ben will have to scapegoat the leftist media and claim "Democrat" wrongdoing.

You keep pluckin' that chicken, Ben.

By: BenDover on 8/12/10 at 9:19

I'm predicting the House by a handful and the Senate can swing either way. Go to Real Clear Politics and look at the polling data, Loner.

lol, brrrrk.

So, when we get rid of all the Muslims, who's next? Mormons maybe? Oh wait, I forgot.... the Jews are next in line, right? After the Jews, THEN we can go after the Mormons. We've got to come up with a plan. Wait, where do the Buddhists fit in? And while we're at it, let's see what we can do about all this interracial marriage crap.

I recall Bill Clinton saying after the mid-term elections: ''hey I'm still relevant.''

By: Blanketnazi2 on 8/12/10 at 9:28

hey, we don't wait to rein in Monsanto because that would interfere with the "free market" Kosh.....

By: Loner on 8/12/10 at 9:28

Let me get it straight, Ben, you predict that the GOP will win the House by a handjob and the Senate swings both ways. I think we already have that dynamic in place.

By: BenDover on 8/12/10 at 9:29

Billy boy swung a hard right after the '94 midterm b*tch slap. Obama will do no such thing.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 8/12/10 at 9:29

All I want to know is who's next? Atheists? How about Catholics? We all know their not REAL Christians. For God's sake look at the hat that the Pope wears! Tell me he ain't gay!

By: slacker on 8/12/10 at 9:35

Ben, Dick Morris sold Bubba on ''triangulation'', which somehow involves toe sucking.

By: slacker on 8/12/10 at 9:43

brrrrk, plenty of Catholics moving in from the south. They are the future leaders.

By: Kosh III on 8/12/10 at 9:47

"be to not destroy the country with new and excessive entitlements that we cannot afford."

And yet you righties were cheering along as we shoved billions in welfare checks to pay for Bush's two unneeded wars. Funny how you never complain about our Empire which is draining us of everything----corporations excluded.

By: Loner on 8/12/10 at 9:48

If bitch-slapped, Clinton-style, why wouldn't Obama follow suit, Ben?? Seems like he would suck up to the War Lobby even more, like Bill Clinton did, if the House and Senate went over to the dark side - (PC Disclaimer: No racial inference intended...I'm thinking Star Wars.)

Go ahead, take the House and Senate, then you guys, you fiscal conservatives can repeat what you did last time...you could balance the budget, as was done during Clinton's presidency. I'm all for that.

No repeat of that will be forthcoming, methinks. A GOP victory will simply result in rancor, divisiveness and bitter recriminations. The Republicans will probably let Barrack twist in the wind and let the economy sink again, so as to further tar and feather the man, the myth and the magic. I pity the man.

If the GOP takes control of the House and Senate, the personal Obama attacks, the character assassination ads for the 2012 election, will come early. A foul wind may be blowing, Ben.

As far as the 14th amendment...maybe they should enforce the existing immigration law rather than amending the Constitution...

The "surge" in Iraq, was a surge in tribute paid to the bad guys...we bought them off.

The Awakening Councils were and remain a conduit for US welfare checks to the former insurgents. Those guys are devout Muslims and they do not pay US taxes, yet a reported 75,000 of these deadbeats are each getting some $300 US dollars every month, ("officers" get more, a lot more) in order to stand down....and wait for our exit, I suppose.

Bush did all that and nobody in Congress bitched...we got crickets, Ben...no outrage from either side. Ben, is "Butter for the former insurgents" OK with you?

Loner, I don't pity the man. He asked for it. He worked a whole year to get that job.
He outlined his plan, dodged questions and told lies, just like all aspiring for politics do, and he won.
If he didn't understand the dynamics of politics then it's not for me to pity a "winner".

By: AmyLiorate on 8/12/10 at 10:08

Damn, I got a partial double post in there somehow! Has Budlight been using my computer! Crud, no wonder I'm feeling slow this morning :(

By: Loner on 8/12/10 at 10:09

While composing my responses to Ben's arguments, the guy slips off, using the oldest excuse in the world. Oh well, he can respond later, that's one of the nice things about this posting ability. Thank you, NCP.

I gotta pull a BD and get up off my arse...I got stuff to do.

Love & Kisses...Loner out.
