Letter to the Editor

Tennessee seems to have kept its well-qualified role as the Volunteer State. Gov. Bredesen signed into law on May 27 Public Chapter 983, which included the HB-3768 and SB-3740. Both branches voted yes for each of these branch bills with “no” votes and only one not voting in each branch.

This bill denies the Sharia Law from being recognized in Tennessee courts. The Sharia Law is referred to as "Islamic Law."

Islamic laws have been accepted by several nations in Europe, and some were looking forward for it to be accepted in the United States.

Hopefully, the Tennessee legislature has set a great example for the rest of the states of our union to deny foreign law in our courts.

The Volunteer State has once again volunteered to lead the way.

@ Mr. Wade (a.k.a. yogiman); Sharia is incompatible with The United States Constitution. Any ill-conceived notion that we should embrace any part of Islamic Law should be rejected outright. As you noted, the insidious encroachment of this oppressive system has already permeated various parts of Europe.

While it is widely accepted by fundamentalist Muslims, it is vehemently opposed by some courageous moderate ones. A number of misguided non-Muslims in this country mistakenly think that the United Stated can coexist with fundamentalist Islam. This weakness can and will be exploited by our adversaries.

On a personal note, I have observed that you receive a lot of flak from several on this board. One would think that you deserve a measure of respect for being the senior member. Instead, a few even sink to mockery because of your brain surgery. However, you always take it in stride, and proceed with your point(s). Hats off to you, sir.

I'd like to know how "bnakat" knows "yogis" real name?
And, this board has been fed a pack of lies before about poster's problems.
One guy's son got a hold of his password and said his whole family was killed in car crashes and metero showers.
So, we don't know if "yogi" had "half his brain removed".
He posts like he had 3/4's removed, but that's his perogative.

Good morning, Nashville!

Gov. Bredesen signed the anti-Sharia bill into law back in May? I'd say this was a delayed reaction LTE. Why the delay?

I am not a defender of Islam or Sharia Law. I reject theocracy of all types and degrees. I reject the fundamental validity of any nation that would identify itself as an "Islamic Republic", a "Jewish State" or a Christian Nation".

This nation is sinking into theocracy; evidence to that effect is everywhere.

To me, displaying the Jewish Ten Commandments in a US Court House runs contrary to the secular vision of the Founders.

Inserting the words "under God" into the Pledge of Allegiance is another example of Judeo-Christian encroachment on the ideals that this nation was founded upon.

We let a TV mega-pastor vet our Presidential candidates in a nationally televised "debate", moderated by tycoon-pastor Rev. Rick Warren. This vetting by a Judeo-Christian Holyman will be a regular feature of the Presidential elections from now on.

I don't fear Sharia law becoming the law of the land; but I do have concerns that Judeo-Christian bigotry is turning this nation into a rogue, pariah state. Our support for apartheid Zionism in Palestine is dragging this nation into the gutter.

As Israeli PM Netanyahu visits with VP Biden today, we should all know that once again, the Israelis are using contacts with Biden to send the world a grim message. Last time around , Biden went to Israel and on the same day, they announced 1200 new "Jews Only" housing units to be built in occupied E. J'lem; this time around, Netanyahu comes to Washington, and at the same time the Jews are announcing 1300 new "Jews Only" housing units in E. J'lem. This is not a coincidence; this is haughty defiance.

This latest announcement should scuttle the latest round of "peace talks". The US taxpayers will continue to bankroll the apartheid expansion in the Holy Land. And Americans will still wonder why we are so hated.

Hey Loner: I never received the 1978 edition of Playboy. The USPS has finally traced it back to your route.
I'd like it, please.

By: Loner on 11/9/10 at 5:59

No problem, Darge. Some of the pages are stuck together, still want it?

By: bfra on 11/9/10 at 6:36

d7 - Have to agree with your post about yogi & is that Playboy the one that has sidiot's look alike on the cover? LOL

By: Blanketnazi2 on 11/9/10 at 6:36

By: dargent7 on 11/9/10 at 6:41

Loner: The mailman on Maui was a good friend of mine.
He'd deliver the mail around 11:30am and I'd always yell out, "When you're finished with my Playboy, I'd like it".
He'd laugh, the tourists would blush, and he probably thought I was an as**hole.
Just like here in Tenn.

By: dargent7 on 11/9/10 at 6:43

bF: I didn't remember to cite "sidiot's" crap that she posts.
Another poster who's so full of it, you don't know what's true.

By: bfra on 11/9/10 at 6:49

Now d7 - Do you honestly doubt that any look-a-like of hers was in Playboy? LOL again!

By: bfra on 11/9/10 at 6:50

Blanket - Good to hear from you!

By: govskeptic on 11/9/10 at 6:55

Fine letter Paul! Of course it's red meat for many of the
daily illregular's to trash since there's the least hint of
forbibben subject of religion touched upon. Keep the faith!

By: dargent7 on 11/9/10 at 7:03

Bf: I forgot she claimed a "look-a-like" was a Centerfold.
And all those guys in Playgirl hung like donkeys look "just like me".

By: Blanketnazi2 on 11/9/10 at 7:03

good to see you too, bfra!

By: bfra on 11/9/10 at 7:05

I prefer "bfra"! Thanks

By: Blanketnazi2 on 11/9/10 at 7:11

yes, there is a big difference between the two! hey, anyone heard from Nemo?

By: dargent7 on 11/9/10 at 7:14

bFrA: I wasn't even thinking anything derogatory when posting to you.
I really like you.
I forgot about Nemo's "BF" awards.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 11/9/10 at 7:16

careful, you two. don't summon the haint or else you'll both earn some BF awards. i'll volunteer to hand them out in Nemo's absence.

By: gdiafante on 11/9/10 at 7:18

I don't see this movement to Sharia Law in the U.S. Sounds like the paranoid rantings of some very insecure Christians.

By: bfra on 11/9/10 at 7:21

No sweat d7 - just a reminder. lol

By: dargent7 on 11/9/10 at 7:28

gD: Sha'ria Law is the foundation of Islam. Like our US Constitution is the foudation of America, eclipsing the Bible.
Muslim's 1st step is to build a mosque, then have a "community center" to worship.
Worship Mohammed and Al'lah.
Totally different than Christianity who worships Jesus Christ and God.
Read up on Islam. Quickly.

By: gdiafante on 11/9/10 at 7:30

Again, Darge, how do you equate a group exercising their constitutional right to worship to Sharia Law becoming valid U.S. law?

By: bfra on 11/9/10 at 7:32

Establish precedent! If you live in the US, you live & abide by US laws.

By: house_of_pain on 11/9/10 at 7:32

I'm with gd...I seriously doubt we have to worry about Sharia law.

By: bfra on 11/9/10 at 7:34

g - What do you mean "worship to Sharia Law"?

By: gdiafante on 11/9/10 at 7:37

Just what is says, bfra. There is no indication that there is some vast movement to have Sharia law instituted in this country. All we have is a sudden backlash against Islam and a concerted effort to deprive Muslims of the right to worship.

By: bfra on 11/9/10 at 7:43

But what does sharia law have to do with worship? I am trying to understand.

By: govskeptic on 11/9/10 at 7:45

The camel first gets his nose into the tent!

By: gdiafante on 11/9/10 at 7:46

That's what I was asking darge.

By: gdiafante on 11/9/10 at 7:47

So because one camel sticks his nose in a tent, it's a conspiracy to have all camels dwell in tents? lol

By: bfra on 11/9/10 at 7:52

g - No, it's so the rest of the body can follow.

By: gdiafante on 11/9/10 at 7:54

Bad analogy.

By: dargent7 on 11/9/10 at 7:59

Ok, gD and "House": How many Imams came forwar IMMEDIATELY after 9/11 to denouce those terrorist acts of cowardice? How many marches were held in Saudi Arabia that proclaimed America's "innocence" and their countrymen's wronful, misguided, anti A'lah acts? NONE.
Some even in America called them, the 19, "warriors". 15 were from Saudi Arabia, as was/ is bin Laden. (where the money for the local mosques is coming from).
You guys are smart on football scores but totally ignorant on this 'score".

By: bfra on 11/9/10 at 8:00

So far this AM, you are running 100% on that!

By: bfra on 11/9/10 at 8:02

d7 - From what I read after 9/11, many in muslim countries, were dancing in the streets.

By: Funditto on 11/9/10 at 8:07

Isn't it also a good thing that Christian law hasn't been put in place either, Paul?

My neighbor insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2. clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it?

And a friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. Are there 'degrees' of abomination?

Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is, my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

By: gdiafante on 11/9/10 at 8:07

Again, Darge, what has one got to do with the other? Does the silence of some Muslims indicate we're on the verge of Sharia Law?

Hell, there are some Americans that didn't condemn 9/11 or thought it was God's retribution for homosexuality.

And the lack of marches in SA ten years ago means Sharia Law is around the corner? lol

By: bfra on 11/9/10 at 8:11

g - Hell, there are some Americans that didn't condemn 9/11 or thought it was God's retribution for homosexuality.

Where did you meet people like that? Thank goodness I haven't.

By: Funditto on 11/9/10 at 8:32

Pat Robertson.

By: gdiafante on 11/9/10 at 8:37

Yes, in some countries, people were dancing in the streets.

Of course that's indicative of every Muslim, just like Westboro Baptist Church is indicative of every Christian.

By: AmyLiorate on 11/9/10 at 8:41

Morning all.

To address one thing regarding Yogi. He wrote a LTE a while back and claimed it then. I suspect that's how Bnakat knew his name. I recognized it.

On another thing, it is one thing to respect your elders. But that doesn't entail blindly going along with everything they talk about.

This is a public forum hosted by the City Paper. We all have our opinions and we're all big enough to eat at the grown ups table.

That said I can safely say that I've never said anything about Yogi's self admitted half brain. Though it is the internet so for all we know he's 34, lives in a Belvue condo, drives a Porsche to Starbucks to post comments here and has a laundry service drop off freshly creased tinfoil hats twice a week.

By: AmyLiorate on 11/9/10 at 8:46

Good point GD.

By: yogiman on 11/9/10 at 8:58

I can only presume bnakat found my name through the other LTE of mine that was printed. To refresh your memory (if you have one) I acknowledged it.

Unless my doctor was lying, he only took out half my brain. Its had to belittle that to what you have.

My parents taught my and my siblings two things in life; you don't lie and you don't steal. I'm too damned old to start now. And besides, I'm not fast enough today to get away.

By: yogiman on 11/9/10 at 9:05

Folks, you better start thinking about the Sharia Law. It is like the communistic goal. One step at a time. And we have one of its main men sitting the the White House now.

Look deep into any issue, folks. Look into history. What makes you think nothing bad could happen in our country? Sad to say, It's happening today.

By: gdiafante on 11/9/10 at 9:06

Take your meds, yogi.

By: dargent7 on 11/9/10 at 9:11

gD: "Some Muslims"? In Saudi Arabia, Iran, Yemen, Iraq? How about NONE repudiated the 9/11 attacks.
And there was dancing in the streets in all Muslim countries.
10 years into amnesia isn't a good way to go.

By: bfra on 11/9/10 at 9:16

I see no connection between Westboro Baptist Church & muslims, in many countries, dancing in the streets celebrating 9/11.

By: Captain Nemo on 11/9/10 at 9:26

Good morning

By: Captain Nemo on 11/9/10 at 9:27

I’ve got good news and I‘ve got bad news.

First the good news; I am back and getting better every day.

The bad news is that I am back and getting better every day.

The operation was a success and I can see a better and healthier life ahead for me.

By: gdiafante on 11/9/10 at 9:27

Of course you don't.
