Letter to the Editor

Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at 10:05pm

"The Tea Party is here to stay,” [anti-tax advocate] Ben Cunningham is quoted as saying. “This is the beginning. We’ll be back and we’ll be watching.”

Fine, we'll bring the sugar and cream.

Cute, very cute-let's talk about the weather, since it's been
televised 24/7 for 5+ days now!

Good morning

Well, at your request, I see where Florida is the only state out of the 50 (or is that 57?) that doesn't have snow on the ground. I understand it is the first time ever. Just wondering about that fact; could Al explain why it happened?

By: Captain Nemo on 1/13/11 at 7:34

If you are looking for any sickness with Tennessee, Ben Cunningham is the runny nose.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/13/11 at 7:36

You could not understand yogi. It is much to complicated for a half wit.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/13/11 at 7:51

I have no idea Loner. The letter is incomplete and I think it should have not been printed.

By: dargent7 on 1/13/11 at 8:02

Ok, if this is all we've got, here's my ante':
I watched the Memorial in Tuscon, AZ last night, start to finish.
The "blessing" the Native American gave, I thought was off his rocker. "Bless the subteranian creatures, and those above and below"? Is "yogi" his speech writer?
I think President Obama "nailed it".
Even FOX News had 100% agreement. That says it all.
It's got to be an incredibly hard job being "Comforter-in-Chief", as opposed to just starting a war and visiting the troops once a tear.
Rallying Americans to rise up is much better than justifying a useless war.

By: girliegirl on 1/13/11 at 8:06

As one of the first participants of the TEA group and a life long Democrat, I commend Ben's initiative and drive. We're here to observe and protest should things start to resemble the state of California again here.

By: yogiman on 1/13/11 at 8:22

I apologize for not having the "intelligence" some of you fellows seem to think you have.

I'll admit, nimrod, I don't have the same kind of brain you claim to have. Even my "half" is double your "whole". Or should that be "hole?"

And dargent7,

No, I did not write that "speech" for Master Obama. The only "speech" I would write for him would be his resignation speech.

By: gdiafante on 1/13/11 at 8:29

Yes, the tea baggers are here to stay...they're like Herpes.

By: Funditto on 1/13/11 at 9:09

I'm certain they will implode. Or spontaneously combust.

By: Funditto on 1/13/11 at 9:11

gg - just what is it that makes you a democrat?

By: dargent7 on 1/13/11 at 9:15

gD: Now why insult the herpes virus?
More like Palin using "Blood Libel", being so dumb to think people would know what it meant. Now that we all know, and Giffords was Jewish, she'll say it's "personal attacks".
Her target audience, H.S. drop-outs, had no idea.
She'll self implode way before 2012.
It'll be fun to watch.

By: treefrogdk on 1/13/11 at 9:16

they don't even give you time to draw a breath, do they, yogi? ;-)
i, too, think it's interesting that every state but 1 has snow on the ground. even more interesting is the fact that hawaii is not the state without snow.
regarding the President's speech: i also think he nailed it.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/13/11 at 9:20

After making the silly post you did yesterday, I feel your 8:22 statement is totally wrong.
yogi-

Tennessee did not get its nickname during the civil war as Antisocialite pointed out. I knew that too. I suppose that make me more of a Tennessean than you?

*****************************************************************

By: yogiman on 1/12/11 at 12:59

You apparently aren't a Tennessean. The Civil War is where Tennessee earned the name "Volunteer State". More Tennesseans volunteered for the Union Army than the Confederate Army. To free the slaves, pswindle, not keep them in harness.

By: Funditto on 1/13/11 at 9:23

We're experiencing climate change - which has nothing to do with the effect of greenhouse gases on the earth (which is what global warming means). It's the temperature. Comprendez? I doubt it.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/13/11 at 9:26

LOL gdia

Paul-

I fine that statement most interesting too. I wonder if it was just a total blunder or was she sending a statement to her followers.

I’m sure yogi and bud will have an answer.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/13/11 at 9:28

Funditto

I can't understand what you think you writing about.

yogi-

By: yogiman on 1/13/11 at 9:31

You should have read my acknowledgement to Antisocialite, Pvt. Nemo. Of course, you are younger than I so I'm sure you had a much better teacher than I.

Unlike you, I can only learn what I am taught.

Lord, what a brain you have.

By: dargent7 on 1/13/11 at 9:38

Nemo: I had no idea what it meant. I think everyone has read up on it and now knows:
Jews were accused of using the blood of Christians to bake unleavened bread for Passover. (!!) That justified the anti-Semite attitude.
Palin is a regurgitating machine.
She probably didn't know Giffords was Jewish. At her peril.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/13/11 at 9:41

yogi-

I did read your song and dancer to Antisocialite
.................................................................

By: yogiman on 1/12/11 at 2:00
You are right, Antisocialite,

I have always taken my teachers for their word. I was raised to believe they knew what they were teaching us kids. Hey, we're talking 75 years ago.

It was the War of 1812. But even so, the facts of the Civil War still hold true (at least that's what I was taught), so maybe we can be called the "Two Times Volunteer State", or maybe the "Double Volunteer State".
_________________________________________________________________

By this it appears that you are admitting to an inferior education or that your mind is too old to comprehend today’s world.

By: bfra on 1/13/11 at 9:41

From what I have read, Palin would be better off, if she kept her mouth shut. She is in bad need of some educated handlers.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/13/11 at 9:44

Paul-

I find it just too odd of a phrase to be spoken by chance.

By: yogiman on 1/13/11 at 10:18

Okay, Captain Nemo (I'll give you your rank back... temporarily)

I'll admin, my mind is too old to comprehend today's world. I wish the hell it was still like the one I grew up in. I surely do not like yours.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/13/11 at 10:30

Tennessee was the last State to declare succession and there were a few pockets of strong pro-Union sentiments remained throughout the war, particularly in the mountains in East Tennessee.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/13/11 at 10:35

yogi-

Was that a time when you could hang a Blackman or a Jew, without getting in to trouble or back to the slavery days.

By: yogiman on 1/13/11 at 10:41

What time are you talking about, nimrod?

By: Captain Nemo on 1/13/11 at 10:44

yogi-

There is plenty wrong with today’s world but I would not go back for anything. My children live in a much more dangerous than I did at there age, but to return to the days when disease was unchecked and ignorance about life was… well was just ignorance. No I don’t want to every go by to that time.

These are not the best of times, but they sure as hell no the worst of times.

By: budlight on 1/13/11 at 10:44

Capt. you are obsessed with racial issues; me thinks you think on it too much for comfort. You ALWAYS bring it up. What da' you think, yogiman? Doesn't he always play the race card.

He thinks in black and white. There is no neutral or brightness in his mind or heart. Have pity on his soul.

By: budlight on 1/13/11 at 10:45

And if he and the other Biblical scorners really knew the Bible and God's plan, they'd stop their ranting. For GOD SO LOVED . . . . and will love forever.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/13/11 at 10:45

yogi-

If you have to ask then I can't tell you.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/13/11 at 10:48

bud-

It does not matter how many time you say God So Loved and how big you print it, it want save a black hearted soul.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/13/11 at 10:52

“It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a troll to enter the kingdom of God."

Just kidding.

By: yogiman on 1/13/11 at 11:10

budlight,

I simply consider the source and ignore it. I have noticed he has brought the race issue up often. Is he ashamed of his race (presuming he isn't a she)?

nimrod,

I'll agree, nimrod, you can't tell me. If I knew what you was trying to write about I wouldn't have to ask you what you were writing..., would I?

b/t/w Tennessee has several nicknames; The Big Bend State, referring to the Indian name of River with Big Bend aka Tennessee River.

By: Antisocialite on 1/13/11 at 11:51

Because this letter is nonsensical, I will inject a little fun into this conversation that is bound to make some of the more religiously inclined folks heads explode.

Morality is a cultural concept with a basis in evolutionary psychology and game theory. Species whose members were predisposed to cooperate were more likely to survive and pass on their genes. Reciprocacy, altruism and other 'moral' characteristics are evident in many species. Religious texts are merely one of many early attempts to codify moral precepts. Secular law, flexible with the moving moral zeitgeist, has long since superseded religion as a source of moral directives for the majority of developed nations.

The god of the Bible is a misogynistic tyrant who regularly rapes women and kills children just for the fun of it. The moment you disagree with a single instruction of the Bible (such as the command to kill any bride who is not a virgin, or any child who disrespects his parents) then you acknowledge that there exists a superior standard by which to judge moral action, and there is no need to rely on a bunch of primitive, ancient, barbaric fairy tales.

I look forward to your well reasoned rebuttal budlight, yogi, or whoever else wants to toss their hat in the ring.

By: not_guilty on 1/13/11 at 11:59

I thought that the Volunteer State motto referred to those who volunteered for military service during the War of 1812 and/or the Mexican War.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/13/11 at 12:01

I hope that you will continue to post here Antisocialite, but we may have to shorten your name. lol

Yes there will be exploding heads and other parts of the body, which maybe a good thing.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/13/11 at 12:04

not_guilty

That is where it came from but someone else thought it was the civil war.

By: yogiman on 1/13/11 at 12:07

You're right, Antisocialite, Your post is nonsensical. No comment.

By: gdiafante on 1/13/11 at 12:19

Nice post, antisocialite. I would add that primitive religion (and we could go on for hours about how the Bible lifted most of it's "morality" from pre-existing concepts) was the means of keeping power in the hands of the few.

And isn't it always about power?

By: Captain Nemo on 1/13/11 at 12:24

Antisocialite-

I have often thought the God that is flung around on this board is more in character to the emotions of mortal beings. Some of the Christians I have ran into in my life time has always seem to put limits on what God can do and that God is so weak that he always has to have man do it for him. Christian, Jewish, Muslim all seem to think that the God who created the universe need puny man to wage war and kill those that don’t believe in just how that think.

Antisocialite I think you are a breath of fresh air.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/13/11 at 12:26

In the beginning there was science, which turns into religion, which turned into POLITICS.

Think about it.

By: Loner on 1/13/11 at 1:13

Palin's self-serving remarks back-fired. (Can I use that term?) By using the "blood libel" phrase, she tried to claim victimhood; this infuriated the actual victims of the blood libel slur. Certain phrases are "verboten" to Gentiles....ask Jimmy Carter and Helen Thomas.

Ironically, Palin is a big fan of the Chosen People - Promised Land idea...she is a Christian Zionist. She kept an Israeli flag in her office, when she was Alaska Gov.

Sarahcuda is not repenting, she is reloading. Most Americans see through her phony contrition.
