Letter to the Editor

I grew up in a family like [those in the article about criminal clans] in northeast Nashville in the 1950s and '60s, and I can tell you first hand it's passed from generation to generation. It's hard to do right [as a young person] because you're sometimes forced to participate. You're also [labeled] as a "goody, goody two shoes."

I had jobs from the time I was 13 and that kept me out of trouble after school and on weekends. I joined the marines as soon as I was 18, so I could get away. I came back to Nashville after 37 years away and found most of the people in my family are still corrupt and so are their children. I don't even associate with them. Here's what you have to do: Save the kids. They can be taught a new paradigm, but you have to get them young and you have to protect them from being beaten into doing wrong by people who don't know, and don't want to know, a different lifestyle.

Or simply take them away from their parents and put them in good environments.

It gives a whole new meaning to, "Take a look at that Sputnik!" Or,
"Is that a Sputnik, or are you just happy to see me?"
(maybe TCP will run this for tomorrow's LTE?)

Gotta be, "Pretty Woman".

By: yogiman on 1/26/11 at 10:10

Captain Nemo,

You said I was wrong. By what knowledge did you know I was wrong? Show me, and if I made error you claim I will admit it and apologize.

Sorry you lost your wife after 30 years. I was married to one of them "damn Yankees" from Pennsylvania for 38 years before her death. I had to convince her to "come on down".

Regretfully, you don't seem to have a sense of humor. Consider this my last post to acknowledge any more of your negative comments to me.

Crying

By: Loner on 1/26/11 at 10:13

Boehner teared up when Obama mentioned Boehner's first job...sweeping floors at his dad's bar....the boy Boehner got to finish off the dead beers....a free buzz....those were the days.

One medical study concluded, that fake crying can sometimes get you laid.

Well, considering all of the pros and cons, you really won't know where you're at until you git to the end of the road; will you?

Is that why you think you got all of the answers, yogi?
*******************************************************************************************
You then made this clame;

By: yogiman on 1/25/11 at 9:09
No, Captain Nemo, I don't claim to have all of the answers, only the correct ones.

I asked;

By: Captain Nemo on 1/25/11 at 9:10
Show proof yogi.

You then made this arrogant challenge.

By: yogiman on 1/25/11 at 9:57
Prove I'm wrong, Captain Nemo. You're brilliance should pop right out on top of the pot.

Never once did I say you were wrong. All I asked was for you to prove your brag.

Now if you were married to a woman from the north, then you should have more respect for our northern countryman.

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) is delivering the official rebuttal to President Obama's State of the Union next week. But, thanks to technology and the tea party movement, it won't be the only Republican response. In concert with Tea Party Express, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) is delivering her own post-speech message.

Is this just another step toward a third party in America?

By: gdiafante on 1/26/11 at 11:21

Right now, the tea party is just the far right arm of the GOP. Their candidates ran under the "R". It's not a third party.

Then again, everytime a tea bagger opens their mouth the public gets to see how dumb they really are (Bachmann saying the founding fathers "worked tirelessly until slavery was no more in the U.S.").

By: dargent7 on 1/26/11 at 11:27

Correction: In "Animal House", Dean Wormer said to "Flounder"..."Dumb, fat, and stupid is no way to go thru life, son."
Then John Belushi had the two pencils in his nose.

The Tea Party is My Party and I’ll Cry It I Want Too Party.

As far as the Tea Party is concerned, Barry Goldwater and William F. Buckley are RINOs.

Abraham Lincoln is a socialist.

Speaking of Lincoln....

In a July 1854 essay, Lincoln wrote: “Why ... should we have government? Why not each individual take to himself the whole fruit of his labor, without having any of it taxed away?” He answered his own question: “The legitimate object of government, is to do for the people whatever they need to have done, but which they can not do, at all, or can not do, so well, for themselves - in their separate and indivdual capacities .... There are many such things ... roads, bridges and the like; providing for the helpless young and afflicted; common schools ... the criminal and civil [justice] departments.”

In the same essay, Lincoln made this observation: “The best framed and best administered governments are necessarily expensive.”

As an Illinois state legislator in 1839, he defended a proposed tax increase this way: “I believe it can be sustained, as it does not increase the tax upon the ‘many poor,’ but upon the ‘wealthy few.’” He added, with a touch of mischief: “The wealthy can not justly complain, because the change is equitable .... If, however, the wealthy should, regardless of the justness of the complaint, as men often are, when interest is involved, complain of the change, it is still to be remembered, that they are not sufficiently numerous to carry the elections.”

Damned Republican socialist!!!

slacker said

"Vice-preez.. Eric Cantor"

So are you implying that Cantor will be the next Vice President or....

are you trying to imitate someone with a Chinese accent asking Eric Cantor for the vice?

Excellent, gd.

By: gdiafante on 1/26/11 at 12:15

I watched Cantor on "Meet the Press". I thought David Gregory was going to punch him in the throat. The man can dance.

Then again, what good politician can't?

By: Captain Nemo on 1/26/11 at 12:16

brrrk-

Today Lincoln would be call Liberal Democrat.

Can anyone get their car's door handles OPEN?
My car is frozen solid, SHUT.
I thought being from Michigan was a plus, but it's highly overrated.
Can't even get to a bar to have a drink with my Beretta.

I saw that too. He never said what the GOP would cut or even any idea what they were thinking about to cut.

It sound good to say cut the budget and taxes, but it is never a good idea to say what will be cut.

By: slacker on 1/26/11 at 12:22

darge... can you mix an ''Irish Car Bomb?''

By: Captain Nemo on 1/26/11 at 12:22

Be a man Paul and shoot the lock off. lol

By: dargent7 on 1/26/11 at 12:24

Nemo: Why stop there? Today, Jesus Christ, Gandhi, Dr. King, and Mother Teresa would all be called Socialists, with Communism and Marxist ties, and Lennin influences.
Just like how the right labels Obama.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/26/11 at 12:27

I wasn’t thinking Paul. Sorry. :-(

By: slacker on 1/26/11 at 12:29

Mother Teresa would be called an agnostic.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/26/11 at 12:33

d7-
None of these great’s people would have gotten any votes from the fringe right.

Notice I am distinguishing between the fringe right-wing and Conservative Right. There is a difference but it is getting harder to define the two.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/26/11 at 12:35

That is true slacker and a lot worse.

By: slacker on 1/26/11 at 12:42

I thought that there would be more comments from the right about the State of the Union today.

By: slacker on 1/26/11 at 1:00

darge, if you get desperate just pee on the car lock. Vulgar? Yes... but effective.

By: gdiafante on 1/26/11 at 1:01

I didn't see it, Nemo. How was it? Rate it 1 to 10 on the full of bovine waste scale.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/26/11 at 1:06

I did not watch it gdia. I never watch any of the speeches, no matter who is speaking. I read what is said later on as many news papers, TV news and radio including fox.

By: bfra on 1/26/11 at 1:10

Old saying in the South, "a robin is the first sign of Spring". Guess the robins are as screwed up as the politicians, and don't know which way to go.

By: slacker on 1/26/11 at 1:15

I'll be devil's advocate Nemo. Obama is an obvious Socialist, who can't speak without a teleprompter, no proof he was born in the U.S., dyes his hair, smokes, takes to many vacations, really doesn't like the family dog, doesn't believe in Jesus, probably buys lottery tickets, doesn't cry enough to suit me, bad golfer, reads Huffington Post, tweets Keith Obermann, calls Karl Rove an arsehole, favorite tv show is ''Glee,'' secretly envies Tiger Woods.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/26/11 at 1:16

bfra-

It has nothing to do with Global Warming why the Robbins thinks it is Spring. lol

By: slacker on 1/26/11 at 1:20

Robin is the first sign of Batman bfra.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/26/11 at 1:21

Cantor is the GOP's best shot in 2012. He'll pull the Jewish vote and money away from the Democratic candidate. The Israelis are hot for Cantor.
