I grew up in a family like [those in the article about criminal clans] in northeast Nashville in the 1950s and '60s, and I can tell you first hand it's passed from generation to generation. It's hard to do right [as a young person] because you're sometimes forced to participate. You're also [labeled] as a "goody, goody two shoes."

I had jobs from the time I was 13 and that kept me out of trouble after school and on weekends. I joined the marines as soon as I was 18, so I could get away. I came back to Nashville after 37 years away and found most of the people in my family are still corrupt and so are their children. I don't even associate with them. Here's what you have to do: Save the kids. They can be taught a new paradigm, but you have to get them young and you have to protect them from being beaten into doing wrong by people who don't know, and don't want to know, a different lifestyle.

Or simply take them away from their parents and put them in good environments.

For those who are interested, here's a break down of Paul Ryan's (the guy who gave the GOP rebuttal last night and is Chairman of the Committee on the Budget) tax plan that he's proposing for the country.

The lowest 20% of earners, with an average FAMILY income of $13,100 per year will see their taxes go up 12.3%

The next 20% of earners (20% to 40%), with an average FAMILY income of $25,300 per year will see their taxes go up 7.0%

The next 20% of earners (40% to 60%), with an average FAMILY income of $42,300 per year will see their taxes go up 4.5%

The next 20% of earners (60% to 80%), with an average FAMILY income of $69,200 per year will see their taxes go up 2.0% (anyone seeing a trend here?)

The next 10% of earners (80% to 90%), with an average FAMILY income of $105,300 per year will see their taxes go up 0.2%

The next 5% of earners (90% to 95%), with an average FAMILY income of $148,000 per year will see their taxes go DOWN 1.6%

The next 4% of earners (95% to 99%), with an average FAMILY income of $258,100 per year will see their taxes go DOWN 4.2%

AND finally, the top 1% of earners (99% to 100%), with an average FAMILY income of $1,405,600 per year will see their taxes go DOWN 15.0%

This is what the middle class is in for.....

These are interesting stats, brrrk. Can you show us a link to this before Ben demand it.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/26/11 at 2:26

It sounds as if have been with the kids to long, house. You got it bad?

By: house_of_pain on 1/26/11 at 2:27

Nothing a little vodka won't fix, Nemo.

By: Loner on 1/26/11 at 2:27

The GOP has a bad habit of blaming the victims, Brrrrk. They blamed the 2008 meltdown on folks who were in over their heads on their mortgages. ...not the greedy bankers who were taking foolish risks with other people's money. Their plan to soak the poor will get a lot of support from the "Christians".

House, Cantor is the sanest, smartest, best-looking candidate on the GOP side and he could lure the rabidly pro-Israel Democrats in 2012.

By: house_of_pain on 1/26/11 at 2:30

Loner, I'm not sure we can come out ahead on major political elections, no matter who is running.
Heads, they win...tails, we lose.

Here's the link for the basic breakdown...

The special interests control both parties, House.....the arguments are just theater....the votes are pre-assured....it's quid pro quo.

I was struck by how presidential Obama is, compared to Junior Bush. Bush had that wise-ass grin and cocky fratboy attitude. How did we ever survive 8 years of that incompetent ass?

By: Loner on 1/26/11 at 2:43

Newt Gingrich was on the Laura Ingraham radio show this morning; he called Obama's address, "flat". Sour grapes, of course, Newt is the one of the flattest of the flat speakers, IMO. All he had in rebuttal were the same stale talking points..no specifics, just general negativity and gloom.

The economy is bouncing back and that scares the crap out the Republicans....they are praying for another financial disaster...it's their only hope for success.

By: dargent7 on 1/26/11 at 2:44

In this cold weather, I don't think I could find, "it".....
"He pulled it out, Are you sure? Yes, it". Elaine
"Are you sure it was it?" Jerry
"Yes sir re-Bob" Elaine
"There's shrinkage you know, the water was cold!" George

By: gdiafante on 1/26/11 at 2:45

Loner, the opposition party has to condemn the speech. It's in their contract.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/26/11 at 2:47

He is not all that perfact. Loner.

Cantor: People in Glass Houses...

By: gdiafante on 1/26/11 at 2:48

I'm worried about you Darge...you froze your car door shut, can't understand why ice-covered, hilly, winding roads would be treacherous and now have shrinkage.

I don't think you're adapting to a Southern winter at all.

By: Loner on 1/26/11 at 2:50

Try wearing sweat pants under your regular pants, Darge. The only problem with that is they don't have a fly....so when nature calls, you can jiggle and you can dance; but that last drop is going in your pants....the kinked hose effect.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/26/11 at 2:50

Thank you brrrk.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/26/11 at 2:54

I find it humorous that Paul of the North is having it so hard here in the Little ole South. ;->

No the other hand I learned to drive in the snow in Rochester, NY.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/26/11 at 2:56

Loner-

He can pull down his sweats and seat on the toilet.

By: gdiafante on 1/26/11 at 2:56

I've spent a few winters in Iowa. Today's weather is called November there.

By: Loner on 1/26/11 at 2:57

Thanks Nemo. Cantor and Abramoff ...couple of de facto Israeli agents. Hey, we might just as well have a real Jewish President, we've had a succession of Jewish wannabes living in the WH....let's go whole hog...full Judeo mode...this could be Scriptural.....Armageddon, here we come. The anti-Christ is standing by.

By: Loner on 1/26/11 at 2:59

That's right, Nemo. he could go girly style....never thought of that.

By: slacker on 1/26/11 at 3:00

Get a fat girl to pee on that car door lock darge. You'll might run into a problem picking her up and aiming. Might try a step ladder.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/26/11 at 3:00

I understand gdia. They said to me in Rochester, when they had what I called a blizzard. They call it snow flurries.

By: slacker on 1/26/11 at 3:03

brrrrk, I don't think a family with an income of 13,100 pays any income tax. No?

By: Captain Nemo on 1/26/11 at 3:03

Loner, would a Jew born in America, really be an American. Wink wink.

By: slacker on 1/26/11 at 3:06

Loner, how about a Romney/Cantor ticket? That should cover all bases.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/26/11 at 3:08

Loner late wife told me when we first got married, that if I stood and missed like most men I would clean it up. I told her right then, that I was never going to clean it up. I still set at home even today. lol

By: Loner on 1/26/11 at 3:08

You have to drive in a New York "white out" to really get the flavor of life around here. When we get "lake effect snow", coming off Ontario and Erie, things can get real hairy.....you don't dare stop, you'll get hit from behind, so you creep along white-knuckled....low beams only, hi beams blind you completely....days are short and cloudy....nights are long and cold.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/26/11 at 3:10

Could that be the 2012 McCain/Palin ticket.

Na. They are smartier that those two.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/26/11 at 3:13

I ran into some blinding snow going to St. Louis once. Could not see the road so I drifted to the right side of the road and let the wake grooves be my guide.

By: Loner on 1/26/11 at 3:14

I like that, Slack. One guy in a yarmulke, the other wearing Mormon magic undies....that's diversity....American style. The Mormons are the lost tribe, no? They call non-Mormons, "gentiles"....as I recall. That would be the Armageddon ticket....all aboard the bullet train to Hell.

Theocracy, thy name is GOP.

By: house_of_pain on 1/26/11 at 3:16

I spent 1 year in NH, and another in CO...I kept no less than 3 fat girls on hand, at all times, for de-icing purposes.

By: Loner on 1/26/11 at 3:17

Gotta run again.....see ya later.

By: slacker on 1/26/11 at 3:19

That might be the ticket Loner. They'll probably dispatch Boehner to deliver the news to Pawlenty. John will be crying all over his thousand dollar shoes.

By: slacker on 1/26/11 at 3:24

pain, fat girls are always in demand in wintertime.

By: house_of_pain on 1/26/11 at 3:27

slacker, it helps to keep the ashtrays full of M&Ms.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/26/11 at 3:29

Later Loner.

By: slacker on 1/26/11 at 3:29

lol

By: Captain Nemo on 1/26/11 at 3:30

Fat girls indeed. You two.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/26/11 at 3:33

Any of these house?

By: house_of_pain on 1/26/11 at 3:35

All of those, Nemo...and then some.

Football-related trivia question:
In which state are the "terrible towels" manufactured?

By: Captain Nemo on 1/26/11 at 3:40

You dirty boy you. lol

By: Captain Nemo on 1/26/11 at 3:42

China?

By: Captain Nemo on 1/26/11 at 3:45

Ok How about Wisconsin?

By: Captain Nemo on 1/26/11 at 3:46

Maybe Tennessee.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/26/11 at 3:47

I give up. Where?

By: house_of_pain on 1/26/11 at 3:51

Wisconsin.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/26/11 at 3:56

I thought I had heard that somewhere, but I wasn’t sure. I also thought it could very well have been China or Tennessee.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/26/11 at 3:59

Maybe Green Bay should make their own terrible towels for themselves on Super Bowel Sunday. Made they could make it out of Wisconsin Cheese. lol
