I grew up in a family like [those in the article about criminal clans] in northeast Nashville in the 1950s and '60s, and I can tell you first hand it's passed from generation to generation. It's hard to do right [as a young person] because you're sometimes forced to participate. You're also [labeled] as a "goody, goody two shoes."
I had jobs from the time I was 13 and that kept me out of trouble after school and on weekends. I joined the marines as soon as I was 18, so I could get away. I came back to Nashville after 37 years away and found most of the people in my family are still corrupt and so are their children. I don't even associate with them. Here's what you have to do: Save the kids. They can be taught a new paradigm, but you have to get them young and you have to protect them from being beaten into doing wrong by people who don't know, and don't want to know, a different lifestyle.
Or simply take them away from their parents and put them in good environments.

For those who are interested, here's a break down of Paul Ryan's (the guy who gave the GOP rebuttal last night and is Chairman of the Committee on the Budget) tax plan that he's proposing for the country.
The lowest 20% of earners, with an average FAMILY income of $13,100 per year will see their taxes go up 12.3%
The next 20% of earners (20% to 40%), with an average FAMILY income of $25,300 per year will see their taxes go up 7.0%
The next 20% of earners (40% to 60%), with an average FAMILY income of $42,300 per year will see their taxes go up 4.5%
The next 20% of earners (60% to 80%), with an average FAMILY income of $69,200 per year will see their taxes go up 2.0% (anyone seeing a trend here?)
The next 10% of earners (80% to 90%), with an average FAMILY income of $105,300 per year will see their taxes go up 0.2%
The next 5% of earners (90% to 95%), with an average FAMILY income of $148,000 per year will see their taxes go DOWN 1.6%
The next 4% of earners (95% to 99%), with an average FAMILY income of $258,100 per year will see their taxes go DOWN 4.2%
AND finally, the top 1% of earners (99% to 100%), with an average FAMILY income of $1,405,600 per year will see their taxes go DOWN 15.0%
This is what the middle class is in for.....

The GOP has a bad habit of blaming the victims, Brrrrk. They blamed the 2008 meltdown on folks who were in over their heads on their mortgages. ...not the greedy bankers who were taking foolish risks with other people's money. Their plan to soak the poor will get a lot of support from the "Christians".
House, Cantor is the sanest, smartest, best-looking candidate on the GOP side and he could lure the rabidly pro-Israel Democrats in 2012.
Loner, I'm not sure we can come out ahead on major political elections, no matter who is running.

The special interests control both parties, House.....the arguments are just theater....the votes are pre-assured....it's quid pro quo.
I was struck by how presidential Obama is, compared to Junior Bush. Bush had that wise-ass grin and cocky fratboy attitude. How did we ever survive 8 years of that incompetent ass?
Newt Gingrich was on the Laura Ingraham radio show this morning; he called Obama's address, "flat". Sour grapes, of course, Newt is the one of the flattest of the flat speakers, IMO. All he had in rebuttal were the same stale talking points..no specifics, just general negativity and gloom.
The economy is bouncing back and that scares the crap out the Republicans....they are praying for another financial disaster...it's their only hope for success.

Try wearing sweat pants under your regular pants, Darge. The only problem with that is they don't have a fly....so when nature calls, you can jiggle and you can dance; but that last drop is going in your pants....the kinked hose effect.

You have to drive in a New York "white out" to really get the flavor of life around here. When we get "lake effect snow", coming off Ontario and Erie, things can get real hairy.....you don't dare stop, you'll get hit from behind, so you creep along white-knuckled....low beams only, hi beams blind you completely....days are short and cloudy....nights are long and cold.
