Letters to the Editor

We’ll take care of you later

Senator Max Baucus (D-Montana) might think it is funny to joke about how many police officers it will take to ensure the totalitarian status quo over health care in the United States, but I for one think it is disgusting. His weak-lipped platitudes about respecting the opinions of those he betrays for corporate blood money is insulting to those of us who know who his real masters are.

In order to ensure that Americans have second-rate health care, and will be forced into bankruptcy in order to receive it, he is fully prepared to arrest anyone who dares to ask that their contrary views be seriously debated. The land of the free and home of the brave, indeed.

The American public, we the people, are predominantly in favor of publicly financed health care. You, our servants, refuse to hear our demands. You, our servants, refuse to even permit our ideas to be seriously debated in the halls of OUR government. Obviously, there is no shame in your power-hungry world or you would surely know the wages of your sins.

Either allow the public's will to be done, or answer to them during the next primary season, the choice is yours. You can be sure that the video of any of you laughing at Baucus’ joke of turning the U.S. into a gulag state for the benefit of your corporate masters will be replayed in the form of political ads for your opponents. You better believe that we will empty our pockets, and donate every spare second of our time, to ensure that ALL of you who oppose the will of the people are forced from OUR houses of government in order that the well-being of the American people can be once again faithfully represented.

Jeremy Wilburn,

Good letter Jeremy and I fully concur.

By: idgaf on 6/5/09 at 3:08

You haven't seen second rate health care until the government controls it.

Do you people live in a fog that you don't know what happens in England and Canada?

Our uninsured here gets better care then either of those places.

By: Captain Nemo on 6/5/09 at 4:07

Good morning.

If id is against it then I must be a good thing.

Verbal Cartoon

In a subbasement in America sit Rush Limbaugh plotting against President Obama.

Capt.: re: your "Verbal Cartoon". Yes, but only one is a fat sociopath who has a radio show.

Where does Mr. Wilburn get the idea that most Americans favor publicly-funded
health care? Can he back this up?

By: Citizen on 6/5/09 at 6:15

HOUSE: Ditto. I know very few "we the people" who are in favor of government funded health care. But then, almost everyone I know works for a living and does not expect the government to change our diapers for us.

By: Captain Nemo on 6/5/09 at 6:36

There are lots working people in this country that can't afford health care.

So Criterzen where do you get your facts about diapers?

By: Dragon on 6/5/09 at 6:48

Mr. Wilburn appears to have no problem with the Federal Government passing a mandatory requirement that he buy health insurance. Compliance would have to be enforced. The only joke is that the police would be the enforcement agency.

Instead of a Nanny state, would we be turned into a police state?

Jeremy,

"Either allow the public's will to be done, or answer to them during the next primary season, the choice is yours. Uh HUH...ok. So a majority of people want so government paid healthcare. Ok. So if a majority want it, and politicians (well, a majority of politicians anyway) would do almost anything to be reelected, then why do you suppose the Senator would make such a joke.

I can only think of three possibilities:
1. He believes the majority of his constituents do NOT want government paid healthcare OR
2. He believes he is going to be reelected regardless of what his views are on healthcare OR
3. He doesn't care if he gets reelected or not.

As I don't live in Montana I can't speak for the people there...but if he is reelected during the next primary season, it will obviously be either the first or second possibility.

By: Captain Nemo on 6/5/09 at 7:24

4. He is stupid?

By: chiefpayne568 on 6/5/09 at 7:27

Dragon,

I understand that those overeat will be penalized in tax increases to pay for their increased healthcare issues, according to what the federal government is now trying to do.

Ok...understand that. BUT, those who are on Food Stamps can buy ANY kind of foods they want. They can buy cake, ice cream, candy, cokes, etc and they DON'T pay taxes on that.

I say, if the federal government wants to regulate our diet now, then start with those they already subsidize and limit the types of foods that can be bought with government funds.

By: chiefpayne568 on 6/5/09 at 7:31

Nemo,

Perhaps. But then if the people elected someone THAT stupid, then that doesn't say much about them either.

Now chief don't go talking bad about the people that elected Bush.

By: Dragon on 6/5/09 at 7:37

Baucus recognizes that illegal aliens make up a significant portion of the uninsured and is pushing to exclude them from the universal coverage. While this failed in the SCHIP expansion, I think it may suceed in whatever they are putting together now.

Who should pay for the illegals' healthcare? Should they be denied healthcare if they don't pay?

By: chiefpayne568 on 6/5/09 at 7:44

Well I expected this to happen. Now the question is, is this just rhetoric or will they actually DO it? Given the fact Microsoft is an international company, I would bet on the latter.

Mass. under Romney, passed health care mandating that all obtain it. There are financial penalties, not criminal.

Medicare is far more efficient than private care. 15% of Medicare goes to overhead as opposed to 31% for private.

By: gdiafante on 6/5/09 at 7:47

Chief, is the glass always half empty for you?

http://money.cnn.com/2009/06/05/news/economy/jobs_may/index.htm?cnn=yes

Nevermind.

By: Dragon on 6/5/09 at 7:47

Chief, why wouldn't Microsoft just move its corporate headquarters to another country? That way, only US revenue would be subject to US taxes.

This could also apply to any other international company.

By: chiefpayne568 on 6/5/09 at 7:48

Kosh III,

And just what kinds of financial penalities did they have? What happened when the person was unable to pay?

Eventually, some kind of criminal charges had to be filed...either that or the person would have to declare bankruptcy.

By: slacker on 6/5/09 at 7:48

Once again if you are satisfied with your health insurance, you are going to be extremely upset, when the govt. starts dictating insurance terms to you.
I don't believe the majority of Americans, will be for the upcoming proposals, once they understand the consequences.

By: chiefpayne568 on 6/5/09 at 7:52

Slacker,

Well, if the majority of Americans hold true to form, they won't understand the consequences until AFTER government paid healthcare becomes the norm...and of course by then it'll be too late to do anything about it.

Wait times to see doctor are getting longer
"The survey found that, on average, wait times have increased by 8.6 days per city. Boston had the longest wait, averaging 49.6 days, followed by Philadelphia with 27 and Los Angeles with 24.2. The shortest was Atlanta with an 11.2-day wait.
In all cities among all the specialties, the wait was 20.5 days.
The survey surmises that long wait times in Boston could be the result in part of the 2006 health reform initiative that requires nearly every Massachusetts resident to get health insurance."
http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/2009-06-03-waittimes_N.htm

If you want to wait 8 weeks to see a doctor, then Massachusetts is the way to go.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 6/5/09 at 7:59

OK, universal healthcare would provide preventive healthcare that would be affordable. this would help prevent people from waiting until they are in dire straits then end up in the ER. their ER bills don't get paid because they have no money, which in turn increases the cost of healthcare. studies have shown that if folks have preventive care, this wouldn't happen as often and the costs would go down.

By: slacker on 6/5/09 at 8:07

nazi, you need to see the movie Cadillac Records, its about Leonard Chess, and Chess records where KoKo first recorded.

By: gdiafante on 6/5/09 at 8:08

In my experience some contributors to long waiting times are patients who waste the doctors time by seeking narcotics, frivolent allegations, having to bee seen for every little ache and pain and lack of doctors.

Face it, the health care system is broken, and has been for a while now.

By: slacker on 6/5/09 at 8:11

nazi, you are going to fling your green visor in disgust, when they screw up your insurance plan. And its gonna happen, Obama has the votes.

By: Captain Nemo on 6/5/09 at 8:13

In 1984, my wife and I vacation in England. We had to rush my wife to the hospital for treatment. We did not have to pay, because of Englands heath system.

The stay in the hospital did not cost us a thing.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 6/5/09 at 8:13

Cadillac Records? Nope, haven't seen it but I'll definitely check it out. Have you seen, Do You See Me Smilin' which is about Fat Possum Records? It's awesome.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 6/5/09 at 8:13

Nemo, you mean she wasn't put on a 45 day waiting list? lol!

By: Captain Nemo on 6/5/09 at 8:19

No. The day it happen, is the day she was admitted. We waited about half an hour before seeing the doctor.

The same thing happened to my Mom when she was
visiting there. When she asked about the bill, she said
the lady said something like, "No charge. You'd do the same for us, right ?".

By: gdiafante on 6/5/09 at 8:23

Can you imaging foreigners coming here and getting health care on Dragon and Chief's dime? They'd close the borders...lol

By: Captain Nemo on 6/5/09 at 8:23

Yes it does slacker. I was surprised, but I was informed that while we were visitors, we still payed taxs.

By: chiefpayne568 on 6/5/09 at 8:23

There is one other question I have: If Pelosi really believes that the CIA lies to her, then why does she waste her time being briefed by them every day? Seems to me she'd just skip the briefing and do something else.

Anyway, this error in judgment on her part isn't going to go away any time soon.
