Reconsider this

With as many active duty military personnel as we have in Tennessee, by what he said on the Senate Floor June 9, state Senator Jim Kyle — who is "moving in the direction" of a campaign for Governor — should reconsider.

A bill Kyle opposed permitted active duty military parents (merely) to petition a court to allow them while they are away on active duty, if they're under a court order to assign their parenting time (for their own child) over to a close relative or individual, if that person is included as part of the petition and is deemed by the Court to be in the child's best interest. But Jim Kyle's position, as stated on the Senate floor was, “these people need to learn to work out their own problems.”

This past month, Fort Campbell staged a general troop stand-down to investigate why active duty military personnel are experiencing abnormally high rates of suicide. Men already experience a death by suicide rate four times greater than women in Tennessee.

Despite his offensive diatribe, the bill passed the Senate but Sen. Kyle has failed to demonstrate that he has sufficient understanding of military morale to lead us when he dismissed the needs of those men and women risking their lives to protect our freedom.

I don't know Jim Kyle from Kyle Busch. But, this LTE looks like a hatchet job. Same LTE appers in today's Tennessean.

By: Kosh III on 6/15/09 at 8:19

Why can't we comment on the front page story about the convention center?

My view, briefly: nonononononononononononono

By: chiefpayne568 on 6/15/09 at 9:41

daKine,

I don't know about Jim Kyle but this bill would help a lot of soldiers. As for the letter being a hatchet job, I will wait until I know more about what's going on first myself.

BTW, I found this to be interesing. Apparently, our Vice President doesn't think the stimulus plan is working quite as well as advertised.

Vice Pres. Joe Biden Says They "Guessed Wrong" On Stimulus: Economy Worse Than Ever

http://www.postchronicle.com/news/original/article_212237458.shtml

By: daKine7 on 6/15/09 at 9:57

Chief: I know you're a soldier, and I am not. I spent all my time in the academic world. I've heard and read about the military "recruiters" were commiting suicide at alarming rates....not active duty in Tenn.
The LTE lifted one partial sentance from Kyle, probably out of context, to support his claim Kyle is a cold hearted, unpatriotic Communist sympathizer. That's how it goes in the press and media.

By: chiefpayne568 on 6/15/09 at 10:01

daKine,

Ok...apparently you know far more about this than I do...so I will defer to your superior knowledge on the subject. I am not sure what this is about but the bill as stated above sounds good anyway.

By: chiefpayne568 on 6/15/09 at 10:13

BTW daKine,

Any comment about the article I mentioned about Biden saying the stimulus isn't doing what it was advertised to do?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 6/15/09 at 10:24

A few months ago the U.S. economy was in danger of falling into depression. Aggressive monetary policy and deficit spending have, for the time being, averted that danger. And suddenly critics are demanding that we call the whole thing off, and revert to business as usual.

"Vice President Biden said Sunday that "everyone guessed wrong" on the impact of the economic stimulus, but he defended the administration's spending designed to combat rising joblessness."

Let's see, Bush "lied" but Obama "guessed wrong". I don't buy it. Either the Obama financial experts lied or or are incompetent. I think they put out falsehoods to justify Obama's agenda of taking control.

By: gdiafante on 6/15/09 at 10:47

My thoughts on Biden: he's correct. They were too optimistic. While the stimulus hasn't had the effect they desired, it has had positive effect. Unemployment, which tends to rise even after a recession ends, has not been rising as fast.

My thoughts on Iran: grab some popcorn

By: gdiafante on 6/15/09 at 10:48

Sorry Dragon, you're a conspiracy nut and I think only Chief even takes you seriously anymore, and that's not saying much.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 6/15/09 at 10:54

"Let's see, Bush "lied" but Obama "guessed wrong". I don't buy it."

So not surprising coming from Dragon.

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see what happens in Iran.

Great picture, Blanket.

Dragon is reporting that Obama has claimed he won the Iranian election and will now be crowned king of the world.

By: Dragon on 6/15/09 at 11:03

For anyone who bothered to read the analysis, it was very apparent that the stimulus will not well-founded. Add the items that the stimulus was spent on, and you'll come to the conclusion that they were intended to implement Obamas agenda, "guessing" that any spending was good spending.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!!

Yeah, I read it, but I didn't go into it with all out hatred for the man. Buy a lot of canned food and lock yourself in the basement. We won't miss you.

By: Dragon on 6/15/09 at 11:08

gdia - you are delusional. I have absolutely no hatred for the man.

By: gdiafante on 6/15/09 at 11:09

Now you're a comedian. Not very good either...

By: chiefpayne568 on 6/15/09 at 11:09

Gdia,

"Sorry Dragon, you're a conspiracy nut and I think only Chief even takes you seriously anymore, and that's not saying much."

So I'm chopped liver...Ok. At any rate, I disagree. I think if the currrent and the previous Administrations had left well enough alone, things would be much better. As it is, I think the detriments of the stimulus will far outweight the benefits.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 6/15/09 at 11:11

i guess you didn't want to read my link to the ny times article, huh?

By: chiefpayne568 on 6/15/09 at 11:11

Gdia,

At the very least, Biden confirms the stimulus isn't doing as advertised. Even Biden realizes this.

By: gdiafante on 6/15/09 at 11:13

More like rump roast...

Of course you disagree, I've already pointed that out. It's pretty much predetermined that whatever Obama says or wants, you and Dragon want the opposite. You have become exactly like the anti-Bush nuts. It's actually funny to watch...

By: chiefpayne568 on 6/15/09 at 11:14

Gdia,

And apparently, it's pretty much predetermined you will agree with whatever Obama does as well.

I am simply repeating what the VP just said. Yet you apparently discount what he is saying as well.

By: gdiafante on 6/15/09 at 11:14

Biden realizes that the projections were too optimistic...meaning the economy was worse than thought. As I have said, unemployment is still rising, but at a slower rate. I know that bothers you because recovery on your terms is your only desire.

By: gdiafante on 6/15/09 at 11:15

No, I've stated publicly disagreements with Obama, on many things. The stimulus, however, is something that I agree with.

By: chiefpayne568 on 6/15/09 at 11:16

Gdia,

And no one seems to be worried at all about the massive inflation which will come due to all the printing of money being done.

Oh well, whatever happens, be it on the Democrats heads and the Republicans that allowed them the leeway to do so.

By: chiefpayne568 on 6/15/09 at 11:17

I do, in fact, wonder how they will handle things when people can barely afford to eat. Should be interesting to see how this will be handled as people will not go hungry.

Another pic from Iran:

By: gdiafante on 6/15/09 at 11:19

That's right Chief, they're more worried about keeping their home and job security.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 6/15/09 at 11:19

chief, you act like a child the night before Christmas, hoping to get that prized gift. That's very unpatriotic.

By: chiefpayne568 on 6/15/09 at 11:19

Wow...serial killer or politician. Not sure which would be a worse career path! LOL

Oh-oh! Politicians share personality traits with serial killers, study says
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2009/06/politicians-and-serial-killers.html

By: chiefpayne568 on 6/15/09 at 11:20

Gdia,

Neither of which is apparently secure.

By: chiefpayne568 on 6/15/09 at 11:21

Blanket,

"chief, you act like a child the night before Christmas, hoping to get that prized gift. That's very unpatriotic."

Hoping for it? Heck no...but expecting it, absolutely. If worrying about how things are going in my country is unpatriotic, then I fear for my country now more than ever.

By: gdiafante on 6/15/09 at 11:22

Like I said Blanket, he and Dragon have become exactly like the anti-Bush nuts that wanted us to fail (Iraq) in order to prove a point. Very sad.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 6/15/09 at 11:23

every day you can't wait to post article after article after article criticizing the Obama administration at every turn and predicting failure.

By: chiefpayne568 on 6/15/09 at 11:25

Blanket,

"every day you can't wait to post article after article after article criticizing the Obama administration at every turn and predicting failure."

I can't help it if I disagree with what he's doing and worry about how it is affecting the country.

By: chiefpayne568 on 6/15/09 at 11:26

Gdia,

Say whatever you like but I worry about the current Administration's policies and apparently I'm not alone since about 45% of the country want to stop the spending of the stimulus.

By: gdiafante on 6/15/09 at 11:28

Chief, your last statement would have been correct had you used "everything" instead of "what". Thanks.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 6/15/09 at 11:29

chief, excusing me for saying so, but you are one of the most passive aggressive individuals I have ever met.

By: chiefpayne568 on 6/15/09 at 11:31

And in case you think I'm kidding:

45% Say Cancel Rest of Stimulus Spending
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/business/economic_stimulus_package/45_say_cancel_rest_of_stimulus_spending

And others agree with me that cutting taxes is the better way to stimulate the economy:

51% Say Cut Everybody’s Taxes To Stimulate the Economy
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/business/economic_stimulus_package/june_2009/51_say_cut_everybody_s_taxes_to_stimulate_the_economy

By: chiefpayne568 on 6/15/09 at 11:33

Blanket

"chief, excusing me for saying so, but you are one of the most passive aggressive individuals I have ever met."

If you say so...I prefer to consider myself capable of debating.

By: gdiafante on 6/15/09 at 11:33

Polls?? LOL!!!

My how the mighty have fallen...

By: chiefpayne568 on 6/15/09 at 11:34

Gdia,

Whatever gets you thru the day. We'll see if I'm right or not soon enough.

By: chiefpayne568 on 6/15/09 at 11:35

Gdia,

So now polls have no meaning? Nice to know.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 6/15/09 at 11:36

"We'll see if I'm right or not soon enough."

huh.

By: gdiafante on 6/15/09 at 11:37

And that's what it's really about, whether you're right or not. Screw a healthy economy...I just want to say "I told you so"!! LOL

I've probably read more pathetic things but I'm hard pressed to remember right now.

By: chiefpayne568 on 6/15/09 at 11:39

Gdia,

I frankly hope I AM wrong...I just don't think I am.

But whatever...you're going to think whatever you please, so go ahead.

By: gdiafante on 6/15/09 at 11:40

I don't need your permission, Chief.

By: chiefpayne568 on 6/15/09 at 11:42

Gdia,

I never said you did.

You are extremely defensive today.

By: gdiafante on 6/15/09 at 11:43

I guess it's years of dealing with head cases, such as yourself. I need a vacation.
