Back to the future

What’s all this uproar about the incumbent President of Iran winning yesterday's nation election? Who’s complaining? [Apparently] no other than the world's police — the US of A.

Claims of voter fraud, miscounted votes, polling stations closing early, mass confusion — basically, [Mahmoud] Ahmadinejad “stole the election.” Hmm, sounds eerily similar to what happened in the USA in 2000.

Misunderstood butterfly ballots, hanging chads, uncounted overseas votes, absentee ballots misplaced, a governor who happened to be G.W. Bush's brother, an Attorney General, Katherine Harris, who was a staunch Republican, and a U.S. Supreme Court weighed heavily toward the Republican base.

Al Gore receives a 500,000-vote majority in the general, but loses Florida and the election due to an archaic and outdated Electoral College System. Added up, was there any way the Bush would lose?

And, the U.S. decries Iran's election results? We should keep our hypocritical yaps shut!

Good letter Paul . I agree.

By: Captain Nemo on 6/16/09 at 2:25

Good morning.

I disagree with you to a point Paul. There were plenty of people in thiscountry who disagree with the out come of the 2000 stolen election. It is this people that have the right to denounce the election in Iran. All other should be ashamed of that action, but I know they aren't.

By: eastnashville37207 on 6/16/09 at 2:33

Until Obama can provide a legal birth certificate I believe our election was based on fraud.
We need to clean up our own illegal activities, like the acorn people before we worry what everyone else is doing.

About yesterday.

Blanket you are so right about chief little rush being passive agressive. I have been saying this for mounths.

He can not deal with the real world and his passive agressive behavior makes it possible for him to cope.

The Electoral College could use an update.

Poor Paul, you are such a one note song. Still in your Gore Whinathon. Where was your concern when BO was using fraud and third world voting tactics against Hillary in the Demo primaries? It was reported (by Demo sources) that in Hawaii, for example, the caucus organizers ran out of ballots, so Obama operatives created more from Post-its and scraps of paper and dumped them into ice cream buckets. The caucuses ended up with more ballots than participants. Or the report in Nevada that Obama supporters upturned a wheelchair-bound woman who wanted to caucus for Hillary, flushed Clinton ballots down the toilets, and told union members they could vote only if their names were on the list of Obama supporters. And who can forget the Black Panthers outside the Pennsylvania poll with nightsticks? Funny how all of the complaints and allegations of voter fraud and intimidation against BO were dismissed and/or ignored.

Let's not even get started on the fraud perpetrated by ACORN, that is a whole dissertation in itself.

Since all you can seem to ever come up with is the same old argument that is almost a decade old, you either view the aforementioned third world tactics as OK or you lack the intellectual honesty to face the fact that Dem tactics are just as insidious as anyone else's.

Good morning, Nashville!

Great letter, Paul. IMO, the SCOTUS overstepped its authority and mandate by entering into the political maelstrom. Any SCOTUS Justice appointed by Bush's daddy should have had the decency to recuse themselves. Te stench of the foul play in the 2000 election still stinks and historians will argue about that flawed contest forever - it was a shameful display of nepotism and cowardice. The USA can never again legitimately question the validity of any election, anywhere. When it comes to banana republics, the USA is the top banana.

By: Loner on 6/16/09 at 5:48

What with Joe Biden talking trash behind Obama's back, it would not surprise me to learn that Joe was behind the birth certificate controversy. Biden is a career politician who never had a real job; like LBJ, Joe would do anything to retain or enhance his power.

In case there was any doubt, Obama has clarified who is dictating US policy in the ME; the gullible US President is praising Netanyahu's recent speech.....the bottom line is now clear, it will be business as usual in the Palestine-Israel conflict. Obama has been re-educated and now has his mind right - so much for the message of "Hope", it was just an illusion.

I like Biden. He does have one flaw as a politician. He says what he is thinking.

Cpt: I agree. The one guy always brings up the fact that Obama was NOT born in Hawai'i, but in a hut in Indonesia and smuggled in a tire well to Hawai'i 'cause mommy knew her mixed racial little boy would one day become president.
The ballots on Post-It notes dropped in icream buckets is a new one on me.
But in contrast to the "Butterfly" ballot, where the names didn't align, so thousands of old jewish voters didn't vote for Lieberman, sounds like a better plan.

Yeah, it's too bad that Iran didn't hire ACORN to handle their elections like O-man did. Maybe then voter fraud would have been hidden better or invisible. And if Iran would have elected O-man as their ruler, none of the fighting would be taking place.

The Electoral College could use an update.

I definitely agree with that!

By: daKine7 on 6/16/09 at 7:34

No, but the Repubbs did have the "Swift Boaters" on TV, 24/7 saying Kerry wasn't a hero at all. His 3 Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star and Silver Cross were all bogus.
He cut himself saving, shot himself in the foot, and wasn't anywhere near Vietnam at all. Whereas NO ONE remembered GW Bush in The Guard and who's flight records looked no more suspicious than Obama's birth cert. Believe whatever you want.

"What’s all this uproar about the incumbent President of Iran winning yesterday's nation election? Who’s complaining? [Apparently] no other than the world's police — the US of A."

I guess the tens of thousands of protesters as well as the families of those killed don't count. On the other hand, Iran is Iran (the US is not involved) and this is merely the status quo.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 6/16/09 at 7:43

The Iranian protesters do not want the west involved right now and I agree. The protesters are very brave and I wish them well. Perhaps this will help create a new, truly democratic Iran when all is said and done.

By: chiefpayne568 on 6/16/09 at 7:44

Well, after looking at this letter, it doesn't sound unreasonable for Ken McKay to request equal time for the national debate on health care reform to me. Wonder if ABC will allow it?

ABC TURNS PROGRAMMING OVER TO OBAMA; NEWS TO BE ANCHORED FROM INSIDE WHITE HOUSE

Here we have the beginnings of a untruth spreading amongst the worshipers of a fals god.

sidenyames see the post of rk61 and now it must be true. however they show no evidence to back their claim.

By: chiefpayne568 on 6/16/09 at 7:51

Ok...maybe someone here can explain this to me...if Obama says that “When you hear the naysayers claim that I’m trying to bring about government-run healthcare, know this: They’re not telling the truth.” --- if he isn't trying to bring about government-run healthcare, then just what IS it when the government insures everyone for healthcare???

Obama’s counterattack on healthcare

By: chiefpayne568 on 6/16/09 at 7:57

Oh yes, one other thing. I know that we can no longer get information from detainees because we do not torture and we have told everyone our limits on how far we will go to get the information we need.

And, those detainees that we have insufficient evidence for, or who are not read their Miranda rights to, will be released.

If all of the above is correct, someone please answer me this: What is the reason for soldiers to take prisoners? I mean, really...if there is no reason to take prisoners because they are going to be released again later anyway (or possibly release anyway) to fight and kill their brothers in arms again...and we can't get information from them because we have limits on what we do to get the information...then why would we even bother taking prisoners?

Why not just shoot to kill when in combat and call it a day?

By: Captain Nemo on 6/16/09 at 7:59

I fine it strange that thoes that yelled for freedom in Iraq are not saying very much for freedom in Iran.

By: Dragon on 6/16/09 at 7:59

Notice the new Dem talking point on Healthcare. It's "out of control". This will be repeated ad naseum.

The solution to being out of control is to control it. Obama is proposing cutting $300 billion from Medicare/Medicaid and imagines another $300 billion from eliminating fraud, waste, and abuse. That would mean that it would cost $1 trillion upfront with "savings" paying back $600 billion over the next 10 years.

By: MamaG on 6/16/09 at 8:03

Healthcare is indeed out of control. Too much fraud, too much abuse and too little help for those who cannot afford it alone.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 6/16/09 at 8:04

Yep, it's not simply a "talking point."

By: chiefpayne568 on 6/16/09 at 8:04

Dragon,

What worries me is the urgency Obama seems to be placing on Health care reform...just like he did with the stimulus package. Remember he said there was no time for them to even READ the thing...and later we found out there was a lot of garbage in there.

If they are going to reform health care, I want the Legislature to at least KNOW what they are voting for this time...and I wouldn't mind everyone knowing what's in the darn bill too --- BEFORE it's voted on!!!

By: Captain Nemo on 6/16/09 at 8:06

MamaG, Blanket:

If it was not for talking points what would the fringe have to say?

By: Dragon on 6/16/09 at 8:07

His best quote from yesterday:

"If we do not fix our healthcare system, America may go the way of GM; paying more, getting less, and going broke," Obama said

The government really saved GM, after destroying it.

By: daKine7 on 6/16/09 at 8:12

Blanket: Could you please define for me, what you mean by "a new, truly democratic Iran"? Hasn't the USA had over 225 years to "perfect" ours? And look at the thing.
Rampant corruption on Capital Hill, warrantless wars too numerous to count, overthrowing of sovereign dictators, installing governments to our liking (until they stray, then we go in and bomb them), extorsion, bribery, "humanitarian aid" if it suits our policies.....on and on. Got a couple of hours?

By: pswindle on 6/16/09 at 8:13

When the wrong person takes office from a stolen election, the good cannot prevail. If VP Gore had been able to take his place as President, our State of Union would not be in the shape that we are in now. Bush was way out of his league. I am waiting for the Gore haters to start their nasty remarks. But, before you start. Go outside and look and the best roads and highways in the nation. Don't tell me that you do not know where the money came from to build this perfect way to move from one place to another. He and Sen. Sasser helped move TN forward. Tell me what Alexandra and Corker have done. All Alexandra wants to do is build nuclear plants with waste that can't be taken care of properly, and Corker wnats to destroy the unions and Spring Hill. Good Gosh!!!!!!!!

By: gdiafante on 6/16/09 at 8:13

"The government really saved GM, after destroying it."

Yeah, poor GM...they were so successful and then big bad Obama came and destroyed it...

Healthcare is out of control. Most people understand this. The two stooges here are the exceptions.

By: chiefpayne568 on 6/16/09 at 8:17

Gdia,

Yeah, you're right - Obama didn't destroy GM. He simply sank billions into it and then watched as it still declared bankruptcy.

Now he says healthcare will go the way of GM if we don't intervene. I say LET it go and save the government money!!!

By: 2476 on 6/16/09 at 8:18

Anything Obammy is dealing with everyone had better watch and watch closely. He has screwed this country up worse in 5 months than any former President since George Washington cut down the cherry tree.

By: gdiafante on 6/16/09 at 8:21

No, he (and Bush) proped it up with billions and then had to force them into bankruptcy rather than having them on bended knee every three months.

Let healthcare go in order to save money...absurd comment of the year. Congrats!

By: MamaG on 6/16/09 at 8:21

When it comes to healthcare, we are already paying more, getting less and going broke!

By: Kosh III on 6/16/09 at 8:22

"Yeah, it's too bad that Iran didn't hire ACORN to handle their elections like O-man did. Maybe then voter fraud would have been hidden better or invisible. "

There was NO voter fraud by Acorn. What Acorn did in some locations was voter registration fraud. Not the same thing by a long shot.
And it is not an isolated incident by Acorn only but has been done by both sides for a long time in many places.
We should all demand it stop. This is what happens. People, often homeless or unemployed people are paid to solicit voter registration and are based on the number of registration forms completed. So this leads to people trying to boost their paycheck by submitting bogus names etc.

HOWEVER, when the registrar's office gets these bogus forms, they are denied so Mickey Mouse never gets to enter the voting booth.

Facts, not Drugbaugh fantasies.

By: gdiafante on 6/16/09 at 8:22

2476, Georgy didn't cut down the cherry tree...you've been hoodwinked...bamboozled...

By: MamaG on 6/16/09 at 8:22

2476, using terms like "Obammy" is soooooo not cool.

By: Captain Nemo on 6/16/09 at 8:23

Cutting down the Cherry Tree is a dirty right wing lie.
