Don’t force health care on everyone
My family has always been fortunate enough to have health insurance provided through my husband’s company. The co-pays have been low enough, and I’ve been very happy with the experience I’ve had with my insurance.
As a mother of two, I can’t imagine having to choose between taking my sick child to the doctor and buying food for my family. It is horrifying to me that some mothers actually have to make this decision because they can’t afford insurance.
It is unsettling that we are recognized as the wealthiest nation in the world, yet many people in our country aren’t able to receive necessary health care because of the high costs.
Something needs to be done in our country so that all families have medical care just like mine. I fully support any efforts to help the uninsured; but having had a positive experience with a private insurer, I don’t think government health care should be forced on everyone.
Those who prefer to keep their private insurance should have the choice of doing so, but not at the expense of a government plan.

I have a really good Father's Day joke, but it would certainly get me banned.

Must have been a whopper, because I don't see it. lol
Yes Mama, St. George Island is in Franklin County. My place is on St. James Island.
Man, does everyone Obama knows have trouble filing taxes??? At least this one doesn't owe back taxes.

We were just rasslin'
I'm so excited because tonight is the Fleetwood Mac concert!!!!!!!!!! WooHoo!!! I've never been to a concert at the Sommet. I'm sure it's going to be killer though! Can't wait!!!!!!!!
Take a seat cushion with you, MamaG.
Get there early so you can part close enough, MamaG.
Park not part.
Don't breathe the smoke mama.
Look both ways before crossing the street...
Thanks, CAH. I don't know St. James' Island but when I went to St. Georges', I had a blast. There weren't very many people there and the beaches were pristine. It was my first visit to FL, just after my graduation. Actually, I was there 31 years ago today. Huh, what a co-inky-dink! I'm sure it has become more populated than it was back then. I do remember walking to the store and asked an older man if he would buy me an 8-pack of Miller Pony's. He did and I sat all by myself and enjoyed them on the beach. (I was only 17 at that time) Wish I were there right now.
Let her some fun slacker.
Yeah, slacker, let me have some fun!! LOL I'll be breathing deeply!
Thanks for all the great tips. I don't think I'll take a cushion but I may wish I did by the end of the concert. I think I'm just going to plan to park at Hume Fogg and walk over. I don't know if the side entrance will be open or if only the main entrance. I did find out we can take pictures, as long as we don't use a professional camera and since we have 3rd row seats, it should be fantastic!!!
Don't look directly into Stevie's eyes.
We may go early and pick up a bite to eat somewhere downtown. Has anyone been to Rippy's and if so, how was it?
See if Stevie Nicks has a neck mammaG.
House, I bet it would seem like a dream, she would have me hypnotized! lol
I plan on staring alot at Lindsey Buckingham personally. My son is the one I need to warn about Stevie!
Mama - have a great time and sing along for me!
slacker, do you think she doesn't? I've never noticed. Check their website www.fleetwoodmac.com and they have a great photo of the group.
CAH - in case you haven't noticed, the U.S. is not the only country that has mothers with addiction issues. Sheesh.
Oh, I will blanket! I will give a full report on Monday, if not sooner.
The only thing I've seen at Sommet is Barney and soon, the Jonas Brothers... one day, I'll have a life!
Have fun Mama!
Don't look directly into Stevei's eyes. HA!
I will laugh now every time I hear the Fleetwood.
Mama - St. James Island is half a joke and half not. My place is in Carrabelle. The section of land called St. James has the Carrabelle River on one side, New River in the back and the Ochlocknokee River on the other side with the Gulf in front. Surrounded by water makes it an island. My place is on the Carrabelle River, 7 minutes by boat from the Gulf. I'm going down there tomorrow and will be down there for a week or so. I'll be bringing back fresh Grouper, Red Snapper, King Mackerel, oysters and shrimp for the 4th of July.
Carrabelle's motto is "Just a little drinking village with a fishing problem."
Yes, I'll expect a full report!
That's 17 minutes from the Gulf. You have to slow your boat down going through town and the 5 marinas there.
Mama, I went to a Billy Joel/Elton John concert at Sommet and it was a great experience. The sound was magnificent. Of course, most of the concerts I've been to have been heavy metal so this was the first that didn't melt my ears...
So, Blanket, are you going to be spending any time on Jefferson St. soon?
I lived on Jekyll Island for a while several years ago and the thing I miss most (other than Driftwood Beach) is the delicious shrimp they had. I go drive over into Brunswick and get it fresh off the boats. Huge fresh shrimp for $6/lb. It was unbelievable and to me, it tasted better than Gulf shrimp, which I also happen to love. Dang! All this seafood talk means I may have to go to Joe's Crab Shack for dinner before the concert tonight!
Fun, wait until your kid(s) are older, then you can go see some more fun bands there! Once upon a time, my son loved B. Spears but now, he's into more mature music and J-Pop and Edith Piaf. Strange musical tastes!
gd, Metallica is coming there sometime in the near future. Maybe August? I love them but don't know if I could handle them live. I wish KISS would come!
I've seen Metallica live about ten times, ranging from when they opened for Ozzy in 1986 to the St. Anger tour a few years ago. They are the loudest concert you'll ever hear, but the best. No one can touch them live.
Last outdoor concert I went to was Blood, Sweat and Tears.
house, i most certainly will! i just wish they'd have that festival earlier in the year so it wouldn't be so danged hot.
I'm going to Metallica, it's in September. I saw Kiss back in the mid-eighties, they weren't that good, Paul ran his mouth instead of playing music.
Aren't the Wallflowers coming to Mercy Lounge or the Cannery soon?
Well, I guess some of us are showing our age! I love B,S&T, too! I did see the Moody Blues at an outdoor concert once. I've never seen Metallica but like I said, I love their music, or at least some of it! And, btw, gd, I think it's Sept when they're coming.
Just found out no cameras at the concert tonight...bummer!!!
I'd like to see Green Day but I can't find anyone else who wants to go.
I'll go!! Love Green Day...I saw them the "Dookie" tour. Didn't get to see the American Idiot tour though, that would have been great.
I like Green Day, but my wife hates them.
Best concert I've been to around here was Stone Temple Pilots/ Aerosmith.
Showing my age, pfttt.
Last indoor concert I went to was The Mama's and the Papa's.
I love STP! Yeah, I don't know why I'm having such a hard time finding someone to go see Green Day. I've never seen them and I really wanted to see tem on the American Idiot tour.
Blanket, The Wallflowers are playing the Cannery on Aug 30. That should be a good one. What is the festival on Jefferson St?
I like Green Day okay but I don't know that I would care to see them in concert. (no intense offended!)
I just wanted to see KISS now that I've learned what a sweetheart of a guy Gene Simmons is. I love his tv show! He is so not like the Demon!
Mama, I always like the Moody Blues. How cool that it was an outdoor concert.
They're solid live, Blanket.
Mama, it's the annual jazz & blues festival sponsored by the business on Jefferson Street. LOTS of excellent music, food, crafts, etc.
Take a camera anyway MamaG. I wish I had at the Springsteen concert. Keep it hid.
Springsteen? Oh, Nemo, no.
And now, CAH, all the leaves are brown...
Tonight's concert is indoor. Last outdoor one for me was BB King blues festival at Starwood and it was so good I fell asleep on my blanket. Some really old black woman was shaking me and waking me up when it was over and telling me I had to go because everyone else had left! At least I didn't have to fight traffic on the way home. (And my ex was with me and had fallen asleep too!--Not a great concert)
I used to like going to that place that was on 4th Ave--can't recall the name right now...I saw Sheryl Crow open for Crowded House, I saw Squeeze (one of my all-time faves) and lots of others like that. It was a fun venue. I also like 3rd/Lindsley where I saw Bone Pony. They are great live!
Oh yes house. Been a fan for years. Got a good collection of CD's for my travels.
The only time I saw Springsteen live was at a John Kerry rally in Miami. And that was by accident.
