Letters to the Editor

Love sick

There are many letters and comments swirling concerning the Steve McNair tragic homicide.

Many armchair psychiatrists and Bible quoting parishioners, well-intentioned people, feel they know all the why's, how's and therefores.

“Playing with fire,” “God's retribution,” “a woman scorned” and the like.

With the forensic evidence, this woman took a love affair way too far.

I can remember countless stories of jilted girlfriends who take the sane approach when a Hollywood celebrity or NFL athlete cuts the relationship off. They burn down his house, sue him blind in court or date his teammate. Maybe all three.

Whatever Mr. McNair is accused of in popular opinion doesn't matter. What Sahel Kazemi allegedly did doesn't come close to resolving a relationship gone bad, regardless of the circumstances.

In life, you walk away. At 20, there will be many more opportunities to fail at love.

Apparently not just Rasmussen is saying this.

Polls Show Obama's Approval Rate Slipping

http://www.forextv.com/Forex/News/ShowStory.jsp?seq=999787&category=Political+News

By: Loner on 7/9/09 at 12:41

Thanks, Nemo, I needed that.

Now that we have established the fact that old Loner is an anti-Semite, it's fair to bring up Biden's gaffe on Sunday and Obama's subsequent "clarification" of Biden's dangerous verbosity.

Biden gave Israel the green light to attack Iran, then the prez had to back-pedal. Like LBJ, in 1963, VP Biden, another ruthless politician, is signalling the Israelis that they would get a better deal under his presidency than they are getting under the current president.

Since the Israelis have consistently used assassination as a regular tool of "diplomacy", dating back to the muder of Count Bernadotte, it should not surprise anyone when Obama gets snuffed.

Sadly, many Americans would welcome the demise of Barack Obama.and many would support Israel's right to assassinate anyone standing in their way.

By: Dragon on 7/9/09 at 12:44

Loner, I saw it much differently. Both Obama and Biden said that Israel does not need approval from the US to attack Iran. Ergo, the US did not give them a green light and Israel does not need a green light.

By: Captain Nemo on 7/9/09 at 12:52

Just kidding Loner.

Isarel will do what Israel wants. However they would like the US not to critize them for doing it.

I think you are correct about many Americas wanting to see Israel to rid them of Obama.

By: chiefpayne568 on 7/9/09 at 12:53

Dragon,

Yes but they don't get a red light either. Basically Obama and Biden are giving Israel a yellow light, IMO.

By: Loner on 7/9/09 at 12:55

Dragon, Israel receives more per capita aid from the US treasury than some states within our union of states. Is all that US-taxpayer cash an entitlement or should there be some strings attached?

If you see this as a double approval, from the VP and the SCOTUS, for Israel to do what it pleases, then Netanyahu and Lieberman may see it that way as well. If so, the assassination may be put on hold, while the Israelis prepare for a first-strike on Iran.

Mrs. Clinton has repeatedly assured the Israelis that the US will "obliterate" Iran if they dare to attack Israel, even in self-defemse.

Yes, the stage is now set for a major event - another war at Israel's behest or another snuffed SCOTUS. Maybe both.

By: chiefpayne568 on 7/9/09 at 12:55

Nemo,

Israel is probably a little hesitant to make the US angry with them, considering they get $3 billion a year in foreign aid from the US.

Still, I agree with you (who'd a thunk!) that Israel will do what Israel wants to do.

By: house_of_pain on 7/9/09 at 12:55

A yellow light means 'go really fast', right?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/9/09 at 12:57

i thought a yellow light was a smiley face.

By: BenDover on 7/9/09 at 12:57

Nemo... given the old couple was concerned about the rapture and getting right with God... what about Al Gore? He claims the rapture is upon us and our only salvation is conservation. He's got the ring of a TV preacher right down to making demands that we sacrifice our heathen carbon consuming lifestyles and his requirement of a tithe to the church of Al.

By: BenDover on 7/9/09 at 1:02

Loner... they'd have to kill a lot of people before the got down to anyone I like. I say leave The Obama the figurehead of this movement. Just like we haven't had any Georgia Peanut Farmers for president since Jimmy Carter maybe this will turn america off of Chicago Community Activist.

By: chiefpayne568 on 7/9/09 at 1:02

Loner,

If Israel did try to assassinate Obama, you can be sure they would make DARN sure it wouldn't be traced back to them. After all, any assassination would tick off the US people, no matter who's President at the time.

By: Captain Nemo on 7/9/09 at 1:02

Ben:

Al maybe closer to the facts than my neighbors. But it is hard for you to see that being in a smog.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/9/09 at 1:03

Ok, another Fox-ism. Anyone who can watch Fox with any sense of seriousness has issues. Case in point:

Kilmeade and two colleagues were discussing a study that, based on research done in Finland and Sweden, showed people who stay married are less likely to suffer from Alzheimer's. Kilmeade questioned the results, though, saying, "We are -- we keep marrying other species and other ethnics and other ..."

At this point, his co-host tried to -- in that jokey morning show way -- tell Kilmeade he needed to shut up, and quick, for his own sake. But he didn't get the message, adding, "See, the problem is the Swedes have pure genes. Because they marry other Swedes .... Finns marry other Finns, so they have a pure society."

More creative reporting from Fox:

http://mediamatters.org/research/200907080007

On the July 7 edition of his Fox News show, Sean Hannity deceptively cropped President Obama's answer to a question from Fox News senior White House correspondent Major Garrett about the Cold War to suggest that Obama did not acknowledge the actions of past U.S. presidents in freeing Eastern Europe. In fact, as part of his answer, Obama stated, "I'm very proud of the traditions of Democratic and Republican presidents to lift the Iron Curtain," a comment Hannity edited out of the clip he aired of Obama's response.

Got that right. Kilmeade must come from "pure" stock.

And this in from an 83 year old blogger:

I watched Sarah Palin’s resignation speech and all I have to say is, “What the hell was that?” My God that woman is an idiot. I have said this before, but I feel the need to say it again. Her problems did not come because the media was against her. Her problems come because every time you stick a microphone in front of her mouth a whole lot of stupid falls out.

http://margaretandhelen.wordpress.com/2009/07/07/sarah-palin-called-a-family-meeting-and-the-rabbit-lived/

like i've said before, don't mess with old folks!

By: BenDover on 7/9/09 at 1:11

Hannity is not a news anchor... Hannity is a conservative commentator and labels himself as such.

By: shenanigan on 7/9/09 at 1:12

Republican's rule # 1 your are not a good Republican if you fail to have external affairs preferred with the opposite sex, if you do and not get caught you will become presidental quality. If you get caught and try to keep your office weather it is the president as ( Bush &Condi ?) or governor (Sanford and his South America beauty??) or if it could be Sen.Craig in the little Boys room affair.

They all have few things in common they are so called to be born again idiot of the cloth, if that means anything anymore. Each of them also claim Iraq was a country of weapons of mass destruction, so it is easy to see they all have fault in their expertize they can be easy fooled and once they have been fool and told that lie they no way will they backing away from it.
Sorry to hear of the Mcnair family it is a shame for all of us and all to often this happen.

I for one would like to hear how the city paper ran a bulletin got it so wrong, yes, he was dead and yes she was dead but everthing else was wrong. I like the paper but it need more accountable than it has showned

By: gdiafante on 7/9/09 at 1:12

Does this surprise you Blanket? Here's the kicker, some people like to illustrate how popular Fox News is while at the same time stating that Americans are stupid.

Coincidence??

By: slacker on 7/9/09 at 1:14

That's all poppycock Sarah Palin is the female Hank Williams.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/9/09 at 1:14

well, these two old ladies running this blog give me hope, g. here's another comment from their blog:

George Bush didn’t even have the simple command of the English language that we would expect from a high school graduate much less a Yale scholar. Misunderestimated? The human being and fish can coexist peacefully? Put food on your family? Is our children learning?

But maybe I’m being too hard on the guy. After all, he did have his hands full with taking us to war and all. And understanding the subtle relationship between nouns and verbs - not to mention the complex differences between lungs and gills – really is a lot to ask from a Yale graduate.

But now we have a smart, well spoken, well intentioned statesman in the oval office and you would think someone - to use a phrase from my son-in-law - ”found a turd in the punch bowl”. Rush and company actually think it is a bad thing that he is so popular around the nation and around the world. They make fun by calling him the Messiah and a Rock Star. The very idea of a nation united behind its leader is just more than they can stand.

So it's okay to crop and edit and use things out of context?

By: gdiafante on 7/9/09 at 1:16

"The human being and fish can coexist peacefully"

LOL, did he really say that? LOL

By: gdiafante on 7/9/09 at 1:17

It is when it's BS propaganda, Blanket, which is largely the content of Fox.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/9/09 at 1:17

Unfortunately g, yes he did.

By: slacker on 7/9/09 at 1:18

Everything on TV is propaganda.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/9/09 at 1:19

g, maybe he was referring to some big scary goldfish in the aquarium at the local sushi bar. who knows. maybe his kool aid got spiked.

Everything on TV is propaganda.

Can you provide a link for that?

lol, just kiddin'.

By: gdiafante on 7/9/09 at 1:23

Wow. To think that some actually think he's to be admired...but that is consistent with the dumbing down of America, isn't it?

By: gdiafante on 7/9/09 at 1:24

Yeah, you really have to avoid Wipeout! because of the propaganda...

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/9/09 at 1:27

wow, these old "broads" are a hoot!

When I listen to the conservative leadership of today – Rush Limbaugh, Newt Gingrich, Sean Hannity, my moron of a neighbor Jerry… – it seems clear that they no longer stand for anything but rather against everything. Except for torture. They seem to be all for that. But everything else seems to be no, no, no! One thing is for sure – they hate change. Which is too bad for them because trust me when I say that change - like shit - happens.

Actually, they are fine with some change. They really seem to enjoy changing history. Take for example, two other shit for brain conservatives named Dick Cheney and Bill Bennett, who seem to think waterboarding isn’t torture. That’s funny because when my Harold came back from WWII, we were all pretty clear on that form of torture. If my memory serves me correct – and it does – we convicted some Japanese soldiers for just that very reason.

Verbal cartoon

Meanwhile out at sea, Sara spies a Russian sub set sails to harpoon it. On closer observationshe discovers that it is Rush Limbaugh in the all sunbathing. Behind her the firsr dude screams, "My eyes, my eyes" and runs and hides.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/9/09 at 1:29

Hey, wasn't that an episode of Whale Wars on Animal Planet? or was i drinking kool aid that night?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/9/09 at 1:31

Fox isn’t called the Editorial Channel. Neither is it called the Opinion Channel. Last time I checked it wasn’t even called the I Pulled This Bit of Information Out of My Ass In Hopes More of You Will Tune In Channel. Although, I would push for that last one if Rupert Murdoch put it up for a a vote.

No. It’s called the Fox News Channel. So someone explain to me where exactly is the news or even the journalists. Anytime you try to pin someone down over at Fox for irresponsible journalism they claim that they are news commentators and not journalists. You’re on a news channel you moron so if you are going to be a commentator then you should be commenting on the news and not your misinformed opinion about the private medical decisions made between a woman and her doctor.

http://margaretandhelen.wordpress.com/2009/06/11/my-big-fat-ass/

LMAO!!!!

By: slacker on 7/9/09 at 1:33

I don't understand how anybody can watch, or listen to any of those political shows. Each party constantly chants their mantra, they interrupt their guests.
No knowledge will be gained, and absolutely no entertainment value.
Thankfully football is near and I can get out of the fetal position.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/9/09 at 1:34

I'll second that, slacker!

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/9/09 at 1:35

You don’t get to say you are one thing and then act like another. Do you? You either are or you aren’t. Mr. O’Reilly needs to shit or get off the pot. He pretends to be a news reporter when it is quite evident he’s a TV tabloid personified. Oh wait a minute. I feel like maybe I am skirting the issue and not being clear enough. Let me see if I can put this in simpler terms. Mr. O’Reilly couldn’t win a debate against Helen Keller with one arm tied behind her back.

LOL - I think I found my next BFF.

By: slacker on 7/9/09 at 1:37

I was just thinking, Barney Frank should record a rap album.

By: gdiafante on 7/9/09 at 1:41

Nah, I'd rather Bush record a rap album, it can be a concept album about fish and man coexisting.

By: gdiafante on 7/9/09 at 1:42

Sample song list:

"Hey Trout"
"Born to be Halibut"
"Filet it"
"Papa's got a brand new bag of Salmon"

The thing is, some of the things that FOX pulls are so obvious as to be laughable. They are essentially the Sarah Palin of the "news" world. And just like the people that bow down to Palin, the people who bow down to FOX are blind by choice and see what they want to see. On the other hand, chief would probably say the same thing about every other channel on TV...... amazing how they can ALL be wrong, but FOX. Must be that liberal slant coming from all those conservative owned big business media outlets.

By: BenDover on 7/9/09 at 1:50

bn let them follow you around for 10 years and harp on every flub you make and see how you fair.

Obama's advantage is that he gets a pass from his fawning adoring media when he says something stupid. They either ignore it or laugh it off... they never see it as 'troubling' the way the media portrayed anything foolish a republican president has said.

It's interesting to me that a commentator can crop a statement by The Obama to make his point and he's horrible; but a CBS anchor can lead with an unvetted 'news' story about Bush being AwoL in the run-up to the 2004 election where their 'evidence' was a 30 year old memo that had obviously been typed on a modern verson of Word and printed on a laser printer, and most people still believe it because there was never a proper retraction.

I actually have no problem with either liberal or conservative bias in commentary I listen to Fresh Air with Terry Gross in the evenings an Rush on my way to lunch... what I have a problem with is the pretense of being unbiased by the News arms of places like ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and NPR, when nothing could be further from the truth.

Come on, Ben! George Bush couldn't open his mouth without having to insert his foot. Obama doesn't get a bunch of passes, he's just better spoken than Bush. You gotta at least acknowledge THAT.
