Council counsel

I voted for you [The City Paper’s publisher Chris Ferrell] many times for Metro Council. I think you've done a great job at The City Paper. Why don't you run a piece comparing the Metro Council that you were in to Council today?

Do we have too many councilpersons? Is it possible to cut that number back? How many councilpersons do cities with similar populations have? Is the Council effective or are they just a rubber stamp for the mayor?

An in depth article on this matter would be most elucidating. I hope to read it soon.

So if Zach Wamp runs for Governor and wins, who will his allegiance be to.... the residence of Tennessee or "the family"?

By: slacker on 7/22/09 at 10:12

Who named Zack Wamp, Frank Zappa?

By: house_of_pain on 7/22/09 at 10:13

If Wamp gets elected, I'm moving to another state.

Blanket,

what's the sound of one hand whacking?

Brrrrk - depending on what that one hand is whacking???

By: chiefpayne568 on 7/22/09 at 10:22

House,

If Wamp gets elected, I'll wave good-bye to you. :-)

Hey nemo, the UFO landing pad genius was George Darden. Nashville got world wide ink on that one. That even embarrassed us rednecks.

By: slacker on 7/22/09 at 10:26

nazi, if a hand is whacking in a forest, and no one is around to hear it, does it make a noise?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/22/09 at 10:27

not sure, slacker but i'm sure it plants some seeds.

is he still wrong?

chief, Hillary is wearing her orange pantsuit today. That either means trouble, or she's going to a UT football practice.

By: chiefpayne568 on 7/22/09 at 11:07

O Great Slackerdamus,

What trouble could come of the orange pantsuit?

By: chiefpayne568 on 7/22/09 at 11:10

Wait a minute...didn't Obama criticize Bush for doing this???

Obama Irks Some Democrats By Declaring He Can Ignore Legislation

Four senior House Democrats on Tuesday said they were "chagrined" by President Obama's declaration in June that he doesn't have to comply with provisions in a war spending bill that puts conditions on aid provided to the World Bank and International Monetary Fund.

Slackerdamus,

One would hope this would not look at a possible world war in the near future.

chief, a world war would be a short one, millions of casualties..

By: chiefpayne568 on 7/22/09 at 11:39

Slacker,

Depends. A world war with a mixture of conventional military support and limited, specifically targeted nuclear arms could last for quite some time - but the casualties would probably be in the 100s of millions!

According to some women, yes.

By: slacker on 7/22/09 at 11:55

chief, a limited nuclear war? How are you going to get the enemy to play fair?
Once those missiles start flying, we are all screwed.
I choose to worry about global warming instead.

By: pandabear on 7/22/09 at 11:55

if chief posts a link and no one goes there,
did he really post it ?

By: pandabear on 7/22/09 at 11:58

If you have a limited nuclear war and the enemy
sets one off that goes "outside the lines", can we
ask for a ruling ?

By: chiefpayne568 on 7/22/09 at 12:00

Slacker,

Playing fair? Nah, they wouldn't do THAT...but given that it would be difficult for them to make very many, that , I think would limit their ability to wage a nuclear war on a large scale.

By: chiefpayne568 on 7/22/09 at 12:01

Of course, because I did.

Oooooo, how can I begin to compete with Chief's butter-knife sharp wit....

My God, I'll never be the same..... I'm wounded!!!!!! :oP

By: chiefpayne568 on 7/22/09 at 12:35

brrrrk,

And yet my wit was sufficient to penetrate your flimsy exterior. Ah well, hollow people and all that.

By: Funditto on 7/22/09 at 12:37

I wonder if Chief consults links this often when he argues with the little woman?

By: dargent7 on 7/22/09 at 12:39

Hope you all enjoyed that Erin Andrews video. Poor quality, but you get the idea.
And to think, I grew up with Howard Cosell as my sports moderator. Ewue!

I wonder why "Chief" insists on posting these web addresses? Besides idgaf, no one goes to them. They would only support (my guess) his Republican values that erode President Obama's agenda at every turn. Yet, he calls himself a true "American". McCain lost, the GOP is sunk, and all the "TEA Parties" ain't going to change the course of history or what happened on 11/05/08.
And he'll do this charade, 5 days a week, for 3 and a half more years?

After reading his boilerplate, redundant posts, I'm thinking the need to buy a gun, take it into a park, and start shooting squirrles.

By: chiefpayne568 on 7/22/09 at 12:51

Dargent,

If shooting squirrles gets you thru the day rather than facing the truth, so be it.

And apparently a majority of Americans agree with me, at least per this AP poll.

Poll Shows Majority of Americans Think Country Is Heading In Wrong Direction

Blanket,

Well if it helps you deny what's going on, go for it.

By: brrrrk on 7/22/09 at 12:58

Last year the total income for all people working in America was 6.4 trillion dollars. Out of that 6.4 trillion, people in executive positions received 2.1 trillion. That's almost one third of the total income. This doesn't even take into consideration the amount of stock options and benefits that those executive receive. Also, since 1980 those same executives saw their salaries (again, not counting stock options and benefits) increase by 256%. Care to guess how much of an increase the median family has seen since 1980...... 21%. Is there class warfare in this country? You bet there is. Just ask Warren Buffett.....

“There’s class warfare, all right,” Mr. Buffett said, “but it’s my class, the rich class, that’s making war, and we’re winning.”

hey, if that's the only control chief has in his life (which i suspect it is) then i'm sure he does.

By: brrrrk on 7/22/09 at 1:08

Wait, I meant to say Google.... Aw hell, what's the difference... Google, Goggle... it's still funny....

By: dargent7 on 7/22/09 at 1:21

Chief: All you are attempting to do is undermine a legally, duly elected President of the USA. It is totally irrevelant what your 1 opinon is. We all get it that you've got a hard- on for Obama. However, "The People" spoke on Nov. 5th. Get that thru your head. Nothing you say or post will change that fact. Obama will not be impeached on the basis that you don't like his policies and your personal crystal ball says otherwise. So, what are hoping to accomplish? You need to "vent"? Get a psychologist who will gladly listen to your gibberish. The military offers them at no cost. All you're doing is eroding the office of the President, and poorly.
Now, "Who want's some lemonaid"?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/22/09 at 1:25

got any vodka to go in the lemonaid?

By: chiefpayne568 on 7/22/09 at 1:27

Dargent,

All I am doing is posting things I see in the news. If they are not to your liking, sorry about that. As for being anti-Obama, sorry you see it that way.

I COULD, of course, try to join the birthers, but then I think he IS duly elected. I do not agree with his agenda but am just mentioning what is happening.

You don't like it? Don't read my posts.
