Building another Yugo?
Recently, Barack Obama gave the United Auto Workers 55 percent of the Chrysler Corporation. That would be accurately described as the workers controlling the means of production, the classic definition of socialism.
During the Soviet era, most communist countries had automobile production based on that economic model. Even during the dark days of American car manufacturing in the late 1970s and early 80s I do not remember anyone ever extolling the superiority of the East German Trabant or the Romanian Dacia.
Of course, in this country, we have had the opportunity to buy a communist manufactured vehicle, the Yugo, lovingly built by dedicated workers in the communist state of Yugoslavia. The Yugo is often cited as the worst automobile ever sold in America.
With the UAW taking over Chrysler, that distinction is likely to be in serious jeopardy.

Kenneth Ray is convinced. The President is a socialist. The United Auto Workers are a bunch of socialists. Buying a Chrysler is un-American because doing so would aid and abet democracy's nemesis - socialism. The resuscitated Chrysler Corporation is a corporate zombie.
The new Chrysler vehicles will be the worst vehicles on the market
Same goes for General Motors, Kenneth, they're a bunch of socialists too. The only patriotic thing to do is to boycott the American-made automobiles and trucks.
If we love this country, we should go out and buy a foreign-built car, built by scabs, in a scab factory. Yes, that's what God-fearing , decent Americans ought to do.
Thanks for setting us all straight, Kenneth Ray, you are truly an American patriot.
Just kidding.
If there was ever any truth to the notion of a 'paradigm shift", this is what we're watching occur and unfold in America. Obama is no Socialist or Marxist than any of us. Pure Capitalism is over. We're now a 'hybrid" country, and what's wrong with that? And I'd drive a Yugo over an Edsel any day.
D7 why don't you rush right out and buy a Hugo since you're so confident it would be a "fine" car. And you might be "hybrid" but for the most part, most of us are still American-American. Gee you don't hear Canadians saying African-Canadian; or French saying German-French or Germans saying American-German. They are all proud of their country. AND so are most AMERICAN-Americans. So no, we're not Hybrids. And O'bama rules like a socialist and in the red book of Mao, there are readings that sound like O'bama is quoting them. Of course that would not be socialist witings, now would it? That would be pure communism. Hmmmmmmm! And wake up so you can call me some names. I just love it when you stope to name calling. It brings out your true nature!
SidVic: It's our system of government that is turning "hybrid". Speaking of which, try drinking some ethanol in the morning instead of Jack Daniels...your posts might appear logical for a change. And learn how to spell, for Christ's sake..."stope" is stoop.
Uh-oh, looks like a power struggle.
Note to Sid and others: we have a mixed economy...have for years...now back away from the edge...
In the old days, it was when "60 Minutes" showed up in your office lobby for an "interview", you knew it was going to be a bad day. Today, it's when Sid Vicious comes out swinging the 3rd post calling you by name.
And I thought Detroit was a tough crowd.
gd: What are your two favorite Allman Brother's songs?
Tough...probably "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" and "You Don't Love Me"...the versions on the Fillmore East live album. Why?
gdiafante, pain,.. newsflash...this just in.. the Dallas cowboys will sign Mike Vick. stop.
Get the hell out of here...you serious??
gd, you may want to change one of your answers to "Whipping Post".
Vick in Dallas. Classic.
From my impeccable sources gdiafante.
Well, if it is true, which I wouldn't doubt, that would give us at least one QB that has won a playoff game...
The Zone? I was listening too...lol
Please don't buy or ride on a Harley, it's employee owned and therefore socialist. Don't fly Southwest; it's employee owned and therefore socialist.
Yes, let's please don't emulate those horrid third world socialist countries like New Zealand, Norway, Israel or Australia.
I'm busted.
gd: Just for a change of tempo on this board...you know way too much about The Beatles...mine are "Whippin' Post" and "Blue Sky". Wonder what Dickie Betts is up to these days?
sidenyames said: "Gee you don't hear Canadians saying African-Canadian;"
NO you hear them saying "French-Canadian"
Good choices Dargent. Didn't he have (another) falling out with the band, or what's left of it? Personally, the band was never the same after Duane died.
Kosh, you should hear the Canadians talk about Nashville...man, you'd think the city was in the deep South or something...they want our hockey team.
My dad went on the road with the Allman Bros. a long time ago.
Now that GM and Chrysler have gone "Commie", will NASCAR, a beloved American oriiginal, switch over to using only foreign, non-union autos, in an effort to preserve America's sovereignty, dignity and Divine destiny?
Will the recently re-introduced "hemi" engine, back from the fifties, be re-retired, thanks to the undermining of America by the Marxist "greenies"?
Is America's infatuation with "retro cars" over? Will the reintroduced Challengers, Camaros and Mustangs be scrapped along with the 40's looking HHR panel trucks, the 30's looking PT Cruisers, and the 50's looking chevy SSR Roadster sport trucks, the muscle bound Vipers and the home-made-looking Prowlers?
It seems that the American car designers still think that gas is 38 cents per gallon and everybody is wealthy, young, single and looking to score.
Forget the commie/socialist aspect, American car manufacturers should be allowed to die, because they are, in effect, brain dead. Pull the plug, may these fools rest in peace.
Does it not bother anyone that the car companys were not barrys to give away?
Kosh III: I think Sid took a cheap swipe at my name. She's clever like that, and at such an early hour.
gd: Yeah,...those songs I listen to all the time. Betts and Dwayne are like Don Felder and Joe Walsh on "Hotel California". Listen to that one all the time too.
NASCAR will be on its way out, due to the pollution and terrible example of fuel-wasteful entertainment. Unless, of course, they start running on soy bean oil.
I was just listening to Derek and the Dominoes version of "little wing". Didn't care for the arrangement, but the solos were awesome.
Yeah id, it was a much more desirable outcome to have them on bended knee every six months or so...a pattern Bush began before he left office. Obama just did what the companies themselves wouldn't do...face reality. It wasn't going to end well either way.
Kudos to Ford though, they illustrated that with competant management, it didn't have to be such a cluster****.

LOL
Reminds me of the time I was at an annual conference in Columbus GA. One of the organizers said that someday they should have the conference in Nashville so that "these folks could see how the YANKEES do it."
The Japanese have been the leaders in developing new technologies applicable to motor vehicle design and construction and I suspect that any new break-throughs will not be coming out of Detroit.
Let me predict that the first hybrid semis (tractor trailers) will be Japanese-designed. The genius who figures out how to efficiently convert heat directly into electricity will not be an American and the ultra-light super batteries, that will revolutionize everything, will not be American made.
We have become fat, dumb and happy. This can't go on...
The Japanese take education and intelligence seriously, Loner. We do not. To Americans, school is just a Socialist indoctrination camp, and the more "street cred" you have, the better chance you end up on a reality show.
Or you are home-schooled, totally devoid of any social coping skills and believe the Earth is 6000 years old and the center of the universe.
it's your pick...
Hey Loner, who you callin' "happy"?
Agreed, GD.
Sorry, Pain, I forgot about your travails, trials and tribulations.
When it comes to rock trivia, I just go to Google to get the answer, if the need arises. Why carry all those files around in your head, they just eat up megabytes and slow down the computations.

ah, sad but true.
Loner GM and Chrysler went "commie" because O'bama drove them there just like he's trying to take the entire country on a roller coaster ride to "boldly and swifty" change us to his dream. And D-7 if I misspell a word, I don't need you as a tutorial. Besides that I see you are stoping (aka stooping) to your low levels of name calling. I can tell you were not on the debate team in high school or college or else you might be able to stick to talking points without going ballistic. So have a nice day trying to rein in your ADD - Attention: Don't Drive

I totally amazes me that all the economic indicators (unemployment, foreclosures, sales, etc) are "unexpected". Obama's economic team has no clue.
We are being told that Obama pulled us back from the brink of economic collapse. Who predicted that? Not Obama's economic team. They said the recovery would take two years if they did nothing. Now, they tell us the stimulus was designed to pay out over two years (so far, less than 10% spent).
An ad for the Ford Mustang keeps popping up on the bottom of this page. The text says, "Your sensible side is getting nervous". Well, at least the Ford people acknowledge that buying a retro-stang is not sensible; but that hasn't stopped the company from betting the farm on the thing. Go figure.

The thing about Ford, Loner, is that they have other options...the Focus, hybrids, etc. They nearly fell apart a few years ago so they were well in to restructuring their business model, probably the only thing that saved them, if you can say that.
