Letters to the Editor

Spares no expense

Remind me not to vacation to Alabama anytime soon. Seems some nut there "loves Sarah Palin so much" she's forking out $63,500 for a four-hour lunch with the former vice presidential candidate.

All of it is going to charity, but knowing Palin, she'll skim a little off the top for "expenses." And of course, stiff the waiter.

7 you are a really nasty individual.

Good morning.

$63,500 is this the price for hooker?

By: idgaf on 9/29/09 at 3:23
7 you are a really nasty individual.

The pot calling the kettle black.

By: eastnashville37207 on 9/29/09 at 3:20

Paul D'Rude that was a gross letter and should have never been published. You have no class.

By: Captain Nemo on 9/29/09 at 4:03

From yesterday

sid bellyache about President Obama's mini and maxi vaction. I wonder if she complained about Bush's 487 days at Camp David or his 409 days at his Texas ranch.

I think her argument would be more suitable if her hate was more balanced.

By: Funditto on 9/29/09 at 5:49

You mean if she was more balanced. She seems to be a tad bit on the manic side. She must have skipped her lithium.

D7? WTF are you talking about? How did this letter get published. It made no sense. There were no facts, no explaination. Nothing.

Besides, there are some darn good dems in Alabama. Surely you're not going to base the entire state on one person? Now that wouldn't be very smart, would it?

By: Kosh III on 9/29/09 at 5:59

By chance, I had just read this article which portrays Ms Palin in a very bad light.

http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/features/2009/10/levi-johnston200910?currentPage=1

By: Funditto on 9/29/09 at 7:00

Kosh, I read that too and trust me, I am no fan of Palin. But I couldn't believe an esteemed publication such as VF actually published something that read as if it was written by a fifth grader. After I finished, I thought "so what?" This kid was never behind closed doors with anyone but Palin's daughter and was not privy to any privileged information. The article was full of teenage hearsay and based on a teenage perspective. I'd hate to see what my son's friends would write about me ;-)

The entire entourage camp is nothing but media whores. It won't be soon enough for me when our country shuns them and sends them back to their igloo.

By: sidneyames on 9/29/09 at 7:00

Corporal Nemo said "sid bellyache about President Obama's mini and maxi vaction. I wonder if she complained about Bush's 487 days at Camp David or his 409 days at his Texas ranch.

I think her argument would be more suitable if her hate was more balanced.

First of all Bush was in office 2920 days; I doubt if his "vacations" were all taken during his first 9 months. AND he went to Camp David and his ranch. He didn't go to Paris, Disneyland, Italy, and all the multiple places O'bama has gone. So I would suspect the COST FACTOR was somewhat greatly reduced by Bush'es vacation choices. He also gave up golf after the tragedy of 9-ll. O'bama gave up nothing.

I don't hate O'bama. He's a human being. I hate his choices. He's arrogant and a wastrel. He spends money like "a house afire".

And Funditto stop diagnosing me. It's out of your scope of practice. I am not manic and I don't do drugs. Hmmmm. Maybe you're the pot calling the kettle black. It's just like you democrats. Can't think of anything logical to say in a debate so you pull your race card and your "nasty" card. So sad. Your lives must be so pathetic that you can't think of anything nice to say about anybody but yourselves. Well, if your arm can reach that far, pat your fat selves on the back, now, ya hear!

California "white coats" on alert....blink...blink...

By: Kosh III on 9/29/09 at 7:36

Did you find Bush to be arrogant as well, with his fratbrat entitlement rich kid attitude? Or the massive debt he borrowed and spent us into, just to pay off his fellow plutocrats and fund his imperialist wars?

By: Loner on 9/29/09 at 7:40

Good morning, Nashville!

I like the LTE, short and blunt. One wonders what sort of a "charity" the cash is going to...Right To Life? Friends of Israel? Disabled Moose Hunters of America? Abstinance Only? Sos of Confederate Veterans?

Before she quit the Governor's job, an Israeli reporter interviewed Palin and he claimed that the only flag in the room was the Israeli flag. Palin and her hubby are avowed secessionists, I can understand why she would not have the stars and stripes in her office. Our union of American states is not all that popular in the south - armed, unhinged secessionists and white bimbos are welcome in places like Alabama. Yee Haw!

By: Funditto on 9/29/09 at 7:50

Watch those big words Kosh! It sets her off.

By: sidneyames on 9/29/09 at 7:51

Kosh, you are so short sighted. What about the Trillions to bail out insurance companies, Fannie Mae, the Banks and now the auto industry? I talked to a dealer yesterday who said they stopped the program after 2 week and to date have NOT been paid for anything the government promised. That's not BUSH. If O'bama inherited billions/trillions, why didn't O'bama STOP THE SPENDING? Not! No, he just ramped it up. And in Obama's former office there is a flag of Che Quevera (or however you spell that commie's name). So cut the crap with Palin. And is your spouse a bimbo, cause you use that word a lot, so you must know first hand what a bimbo is. AND since bimbo is the following:

a company from Mexico, Grupo Bimbo, S.A. bought a Texas-based bakery business a few years ago. The Texas company had been family owned and operated for almost a century. The “family” name was kept for many of the bread products, but the Bimbo name has been increasingly seen on pastry products in stores. Working in favor of the whole deal is the increasingly large Hispanic population in the US in general, and the southern tier of states in particular.

It's a family-oriented word; Bimbo bread. And it's origin: Hispanic. That's making you look like a racist for using the word inappropriately. Better watch out, the racist squad on CP will come after your smearing butt!

By: Loner on 9/29/09 at 7:58

Sarah Palin's ghost writer has finished work on "Going Rogue", Palin's glossed over "auto"biography. This tremendous literary achievement will be on bookstore shelves by Thanksgiving, just in time to go with the holiday gluttony, the traditional indigestion and the turkey-based flatulance. Bon appetit!

By: Funditto on 9/29/09 at 8:03

And just in time for a giant book-burning bonfire.

By: Loner on 9/29/09 at 8:07

Sid, some of my best friends are Bimbos I have always supported Bimbo-related causes and charities. The anti-Bimbonic label just doesn't fit, Sid.. It's the policies of their leadership that I often criticize, it's not that I am anti-Bimbonic per se. I love the Bimbo people....can't we all just get along?

By: Schuss on 9/29/09 at 8:09

Hey Paul, how much to you pay the City Paper to print your drivel?

By: dargent7 on 9/29/09 at 8:11

Today's board is shaping up to be quite a barn burner.
First, you have the local priesthood casting aspersions on my character. So, what?
The LTE was a throwaway, and satire. Who know's why TCP prints what they do, and only one letter.
And "Fund-o", who seems smart, needs Cliff Notes to understand the LTE's meaning? Miss the recent news, pal? The $63 grand lunch was all over it.
Miss Palin in Hong Kong bashing the President?
Now, her book has an advance running of 1.5 million copies. Same as Ted Kennedy's. "Going Rogue", capitalizing on her nickname during McCain's campaign. Beat Georgie's book to press.
Palin doesn't want birth control, sex-Ed., Evolution taught in Science class, ok to "perhaps so" bomb Russia, doesn't know what magazines she reads, and QUIT THE GOVENOR'S JOB, a year and a half left on her contract with "my beloved Alaskan people". She's priming the pump for some kind of run somewhere, and it's a joke. But, I do believe it gives old, rich, white men, a woody.

By: Loner on 9/29/09 at 8:14

Sid, do you actually believe that President Obama displays a Che Guevera flag on his office wall? Sid, let me sell you some colon cleansing colonics, some super vitamins, a water purifying system and my miracle diet pills. Have I got a deal for you...

Corporal Nemo

The arrogant sid has busted me in rank. My first laugh of the day. My second laugh came when sid post....."First of all Bush was in office 2920 days; I doubt if his "vacations" were all taken during his first 9 months. AND he went to Camp David and his ranch. He didn't go to Paris, Disneyland, Italy, and all the multiple places O'bama has gone."

The reason he did not go to this places is because they did not want him.

My third laugh came when she post......."And Funditto stop diagnosing me. Well, if your arm can reach that far, pat your fat selves on the back, now, ya hear!"

I think Funditto has something here. sid does have a wide range of mood swings.

By: Captain Nemo on 9/29/09 at 8:15

By Aug.2003 George W. Bush had taken 250 days off. That is 27% of his time in office. Bush was on a vaction during Katrina

His daddy took off 543 vaction days in 4yrs.

Ronald Reagan 335 days in 8yrs to Santa Barbara.

Jimmy Carter on took 79 days of vaction in 4yrs.

Bill Clinton only took 152 days in 8yrs.

By: Loner on 9/29/09 at 8:28

Hopefully, the fame will go to Palin's head, and she'll truly go rogue by running on a third-party ticket. This would siphon off the Judeo-Christian theocrats, the gun nuts, the gay haters, the Creationsts, the book-burners, and the anti-guv'mint voters. The Republican Party would be left in shambles, Party Chair Michael Steele and a handful of Clarence Thomas Republicans would be all that remains of the once-mighty GOP.

Go for it, Sarah, you don't need no stinking Republican Party. I'll send in twenty bucks towards a third-party Palin candidacy. The cash would roll in like a tsunami of greenbacks.

By: Kosh III on 9/29/09 at 8:28

sid

When have I used "bimbo"? esp. in the frequency to which you attribute it's useage to me?
I know the brand, I've been buying that brand for 25 years.

As for the bailouts, the President is only trying to fix the problems caused by the Bush recession. Let's give him a chance, if it doesn't work, there is always 2012.

By: govskeptic on 9/29/09 at 8:28

I get the feeling the El Captaine, Loner and Paul 'D are all
on Presidents O'Bama and Carter's tweeter list! Any
opposition to either are automatic nuts or right-wingers.
Independent thoughts or words must be forbidden!

By: chiefpayne568 on 9/29/09 at 8:34

Dargent,

What makes you assume Palin would skim anything? I have seen nothing to suggest she would do such a thing.

Unless you have evidence to the contrary, this assumption is without merit.

By: Captain Nemo on 9/29/09 at 8:35

No skeptic. I am not tweeter, but you act as if tweet a lot.

By: chiefpayne568 on 9/29/09 at 8:36

BTW Nemo,

You're comment directing the assumption of prostitution towards Palin is, of course, reprehensible as per your norm.

By: dargent7 on 9/29/09 at 8:37

Schuss: I'm not on TCP's payroll. And, sorry to say, I got much more "drivel" where that came from.
Funny, many times, even sometimes, you "elitist" here in Nashville complement my LTE's. Because you happen to agree. So, what?
Then, in a blink of an eye, "go off" with "character assassination".
Christ, you all are on the "daily topic" for a maximum of 5 posts anyway, before the sale price of pork shoulder at Kroger's enter's the field.
And, I'm the bad guy for writing a letter?

Special teams not looking good.
I'm 2-0 right now. #1 in my league. How'd that happen?

By: Captain Nemo on 9/29/09 at 8:42

What about the Lions win?

By: Loner on 9/29/09 at 8:43

Nemo, nice research on presidential slacking off..please provide the source.

Junior Bush went to Iraq for a farewell tour, he got a couple of Arabian loafers thrown at his knuckly head. Pissed off, he turned to the Israelis and released them onto the Arab refugees holed up in Gaza...the Lame Duck War was Junior's revenge for the shoe incident.

Now, Obama is deflecting criticism over Israel's war crimes, as documented in the Goldstone Report. No settlement freeze, no war crimes investigations...The Israelis have again co-opted our president. This very real loss of sovereignty is a stain on our nation's honor.

By: chiefpayne568 on 9/29/09 at 8:44

Kosh,

"As for the bailouts, the President is only trying to fix the problems caused by the Bush recession. Let's give him a chance, if it doesn't work, there is always 2012."

I understand what the President is trying to do by bailing out the businesses...the problem is, I do not believe this will not resolve the situation.

What I fail to this day to understand is why those who want to manipulate the economy into a better situation, fail to factor in the psychology of those who are in the best position to help the economy. The fact that everyone wants to tax the rich more, means the rich will logically start spending less on hiring, charities, etc; finding places to put their money where it cannot be taxed; and will even consider moving to places where the taxes aren't so great (for an example, look at California).

By: gdiafante on 9/29/09 at 8:46

I think I lost this weekend, I was 20 pts behind before last nights game. I did have Romo and Jones, who didn't do bad, but I'm not sure I got 20 points out of them. We'll see...

By: house_of_pain on 9/29/09 at 8:48

Chief: It was a "satirical letter". But, she did take $1,500 from her campaign funds to buy really cool clothes at Nodstroms and Saks. I guess the McCain camp felt those overalls and fishing pants wouldn't sell in Cal. and NY. But, here in Tenn., she'd be down-right fashionable. She returned the clothes, used.

By: chiefpayne568 on 9/29/09 at 8:53

Loner,

Frankly I am less concerned about what the Israelies are doing and FAR more concerned about what our President is doing about a nuclear Iran! So far, they have fired numerous rockets and have bragged about getting a nuclear arsenal, in the name of peaceful energy concerns. Anyone who buys that is a complete idiot.

And during this time, our President has opted out of the missle defense system and has urged a toning down of our own nuclear arsenal.

So just what HAVE we been doing while Iran has been building rockets?

By: Captain Nemo on 9/29/09 at 8:53

dargent why are you posting to a blank wall? lol

By: Loner on 9/29/09 at 8:54

Skeptic, so the guv'mint's septic? What flavor of anarchist are you?

I welcome independent thoughts and comments, but regurgitation of the GOP Kool-Aid is not independent thought. Repeating lobbyist talking points is not independent thought or creative commentary.

Go ahead, skeptic, impress us with a novel, thought-provoking statement. Seriously, you have the floor.

By: chiefpayne568 on 9/29/09 at 8:54

Dargent,

" But, she did take $1,500 from her campaign funds to buy really cool clothes at Nodstroms and Saks."

In point of fact, I believe it was the GOP who bought them FOR her. And afterwards, she did return them. However the point is moot.

BTW, it might have been political satire, but it really was in poor taste.

By: chiefpayne568 on 9/29/09 at 8:55

Nemo,

Because a blank wall is where everyone reads what is posted. DUH.

By: chiefpayne568 on 9/29/09 at 9:01

Loner,

"This would siphon off the Judeo-Christian theocrats, the gun nuts, the gay haters, the Creationsts, the book-burners, and the anti-guv'mint voters. The Republican Party would be left in shambles, Party Chair Michael Steele and a handful of Clarence Thomas Republicans would be all that remains of the once-mighty GOP."

Why Loner, it sounds like you're a bit afraid the Democrats will lose in the next election. If true, why would that be, I wonder???

By: Loner on 9/29/09 at 9:10

Chief, you are an unwitting dupe of the militant Zionists colonizing Palestine, you are a willing Judeo-Christian submissive, subservient to a "Chosen People" who are fulfilling "Biblical prophecy"...at the expense of the US taxpayer and in conflict with our own national interests.

What part of Jewish supremacy don't you understand, Chief? Can't you see the apartheid wall, the Jim Crow for Arab Israelis, the brutal occupation, the squalid refugee camps and the illegal Israeli nuclear arsenal?

Can't you hear the bellicose hysteria of the Israeli leadership, as they push us into more holy war at their behest?

You claim to be serving in the US armed forces, Chief, but your allegiance and loyalty seem to be with a rogue, pariah state, not with the USA.

By: Kosh III on 9/29/09 at 9:13

What SHOULD we do about Iran?

War or an attack is the last thing we should do. It would rally the country behind the government whereas much of the country is not supportive.

Are we even considering other options? The most powerful weapon would be a drop in the price of oil, bankrupt them. Much of the internal dissent esp. among younger people is economic-based, no work, no affluence. That was what broke the Shah's control.
