Fallen from grace?

In spite of the glorious thanks we have in our hearts this time of the year when we celebrate the magnificent birth of Jesus, I’m personally saddened by the present Tiger Woods saga. Despite his incredible talent and meteoric elevation in our society as almost a god, these stories help us to realize that he is also simply a sinner in need of a Savior; just like the rest of us.

However, isn’t that what the Christmas story is really all about, or have we forgotten in our frantic world of materialism and earthly success?

As this drama unfolds, only time will tell how much of this young icon’s “standing” will recover in our status-obsessed society. It seems that human nature loves to build gigantic monuments to our heroes and then tear them down when they fail us.

Today, I heard a reporter say that Tiger Woods has “fallen from grace.” If one is talking about the grace one receives from this fallen world, this statement is sadly true. However, from Heaven’s perspective, this “fall” came as no surprise because falling is what sinners do naturally. That’s why the Savior was born — to catch and then restore the fallen which includes us all.

For this reason, even in the midst of all the human chatter, we can be assured that the Lord in His still small voice is whispering, “I love you Tiger. I forgive you Tiger. I’ll help you and your wife through this Tiger. I’ll even turn this tragedy into a triumph, because where sin abounds, my grace abounds much more.”

In the midst of all our wonderful celebration this Christmas season, I encourage you to please pray for Mr. Woods and his family because… “but for the grace of God go I.”

Pastor Bruce Vyverberg, 37862

After all Tiger Woods is a human being and a grown man and I think that everyone should keep thair nose out of it . It's fine if you want to pray for him but it's not our place top try to chastise him . I think his wife has already done that with a nine iron.

By: dargent7 on 12/11/09 at 6:06

I always thought Woods was a little too excited to go on tour. Now, it's apparent he was getting more girls than David Cassidy. If he now hears any ring in the ears it isn't Jesus calling but from his wife smacking him.

By: house_of_pain on 12/11/09 at 7:54

Oh, please...not more of this.
Tiger gets more "tang" than the astronauts. We get it...move on.

By: dargent7 on 12/11/09 at 8:03

House...Turn on the Today show...Jamie Jungers (not a stage name) is going to tell Matt Lauer "everything" about her affair w/ Tiger. Can't wait for Lisa Lips and Busty Nichols next week.

By: house_of_pain on 12/11/09 at 8:12

There better be a "Jasmine" in there somewhere.

By: Funditto on 12/11/09 at 8:26

I can't take it anymore.

By: dargent7 on 12/11/09 at 8:26

I don't know, it could be worse...all these women are saying what a "tiger" he is in bed. Big smiles on their faces. Imagine the humiliation if they said they had to ply him with Viagra every hour.

By: sidneyames on 12/11/09 at 8:31

He is a sex addict and that's showing through daily. He needs to be forgiveen and hopefully he won't stray again. I'll bet his father, who sacrificed so much, is turning over in his grave. AND here's one of those, "I don't want my mom to read this in the paper" stories I talk about. If for no other reason, he should have respected his mother more than this. Think of her shame and humiliation he has put her through.

He's a dink-weed! I do not care how much I forgive him, I can't stand dink weed men who cheat on their family. And his whole family is hurt. The media will be mentioning this at his kids' college graduations - you can bet on it. What a legacy!

By: dargent7 on 12/11/09 at 8:35

Wow, Sid. For a moment there, reading your rant, I thought I was reading the King James version of the New Testament. You sound just like Jesus..."situational ethics and forgiveness on demand,...well, maybe."

By: house_of_pain on 12/11/09 at 8:35

Don't do anything drastic, Fun...

By: govskeptic on 12/11/09 at 8:41

My concerns at this time of year are for the poor,
uneducated, and down trotten of this world than
for those members holding health, wealth, and
the attention of the World's media. Tiger has done less
for me to forgive than those who truly have abused
power over the lives of others!

By: slacker on 12/11/09 at 8:43

Its not my fault, I'm a sex addict.

By: Loner on 12/11/09 at 8:44

Good morning, Nashville!

Yesterday's LTE was from a professional zealot, a rebuilt engine lobbyist; today we have another type of professional zealot, a member of the the world's oldest profession - the professional holyman.

Pastor Vyverberg and his wife are co-pastors of their church in Sevierville, TN. Isn't that special?

Tiger Woods has inspired countless sermons, jokes and LTE's. Like Santa and his bag of gifts, Tiger keeps pulling one hot item after another from his Christmas sack of pleasure.

Thank you, Tiger.

By: slacker on 12/11/09 at 8:51

This story will not go away. Eventually one of the women will sue Tiger for infecting, them with an std.

Too late. I'm heading to Galleria. Pray for me.

By: house_of_pain on 12/11/09 at 8:53

"std"? Stray Tiger d**k?

By: Loner on 12/11/09 at 8:56

Quickly off topic, is anyone else getting sick of he "flat belly" ads on this webpage? You know, the animated female figure morphs through four stages of weight loss....from chubby chick to ectomorph. Yes, I understand that somebody has to pay the bills, so that we can roost here, like pigeons on a telephone wire, but that ad is annoying, IMO.

Actually, I prefer the stage 3 figure, stage 4 is too skinny...fat-bottomed girls make this rockin' world go round.

By: dargent7 on 12/11/09 at 8:57

I don't know Loner...yesterday's LTE was more appropriate in "Popular Mechanics".
TCP must not have anything to choose from or the LTE editor is in the 5th grade.
I miss the day's when there were 3,4 or 5 LTE's and they had them in the hard copy.
Check out USA Today...they have a sophisticated system and you talk to different gene pools. You'll go over big, seriously.

By: house_of_pain on 12/11/09 at 8:57

Those ads are definitely annoying. The "artwork" is pretty crude.

By: dargent7 on 12/11/09 at 9:02

I'm suprised he didn't get anyone pregnant. There's +-12 girls and the odds were high. "Did I bring a condom"? "I thought you'd have some laying around". "Oh, well".

By: Loner on 12/11/09 at 9:09

Thanks for the tip, D7. I post on several of these newspaper forums. I like this one because it is fast and easy and has just the right quantity and quality of posters, IMO.

House, I like the STD acronym. Does Tiger have herpes? Did Tiger get the clap? Is Tiger HIV positive? Inquiring minds need to know. This thing will not go away on its own...just like an STD.

Soon, the sponsors will head for the exits, as the lawyers line up, pushing their boxes of paperwork, on 2-wheeled hand trucks. Servants at the Woods compound will yell out, "Here come da repo man!"

By: Funditto on 12/11/09 at 9:09

Actually, I prefer the stage 3 figure, stage 4 is too skinny...fat-bottomed girls make this rockin' world go round."

Really? I'm trying really, really hard to get back to stage 4. I guess I'll give up and visit the food court today. Thanks, Loner!

By: slacker on 12/11/09 at 9:14

I've seen that fat one somewhere.

By: dargent7 on 12/11/09 at 9:17

Loner: What's cool about USA Today, is the message boards. Beware. If you think this crowd is tough, (eg. Sid V.), you'll get a@@holes tearing you apart on your pro-Isreal views at that paper.
Either you're Jewish or play one on this board...in any case, "Happy Hanukkah".

By: Loner on 12/11/09 at 9:20

Go ahead, Funditto, remember, we are what we eat. To me, a little "big bun" chow contributes to a well-rounded diet. Of course, I'm one of those people who can't gain weight, even if they try.....it's a curse, they kick sand in my face at the beach.

By: Captain Nemo on 12/11/09 at 9:20

Good morning.
Glade to see Loner still posting. Got Snow, Loner?

Wow, Sid. For a moment there, reading your rant, I thought I was reading the King James version of the New Testament. You sound just like Jesus..."situational ethics and forgiveness on demand,...well, maybe."

And reading your rant D7, I thought I was back in 2nd grade reading Dick and Jane go bonkers at the corner ice cream parlor. You make as much sense as a skunk tied to a hitching post at the ok corral. You are a condescending, gripping, flame thrower disguised as a nut cake. You call truces and then whinney binney breaks his promise by using the excuse that he is listening to The WHITE album (sounds racist to me) and he decides to go over to the "dark" side. Another racist comment.

So I'm not buying your line of bull crap. You like to see babies killed. Oh excuse me, they are tad poles to you.

By: Loner on 12/11/09 at 9:35

My "pro-Israel views"? Oh, that's sarcasm.....right? Hey, I was delivered and then circumscized by a Jewish doctor, who also saved my life when I was three. My dentists have always been Jewish. A Jewish doctor, Jonas Salk, spared my generation from the scourge of polio. Dr. Salk and Albert Einstein were two of my earliest heroes.

I grew up respecting Jewish people and I believed that they were God's Chosen People and that Palestine remains their divine right homeland.

Though I still admire and "love" the Jewish people and I acknowledge their history of being oppressed, I cannot support the "special relationship" between the USA and the apartheid Jewish State in Palestine. I challenge the wisdom and efficacy of Zionism itself; it has failed to deliver on its promises.

Bring the Diaspora to America, let the fanatical hot-heads in Palestine fend for themselves!

Holy Wars Suck.

By: dargent7 on 12/11/09 at 9:38

Sorry Loner, I didn't mean to touch a nerve. Disregard my "warning".

By: idgaf on 12/11/09 at 9:40

Much to much is being made of this. If this was the season and he was winning tournements it wouldn't even be mentioned.

Let him and his wife work this out and leave them alone and stop being voyers and taking sides.

He is an athelete not a saint.

By: dargent7 on 12/11/09 at 9:42

Ames: Check yourself into a clinic, PRONTO. Referencing The Beatles "White Album" is racist? And "going to the "dark side" is racist? I was self- deprecating. And STOP with the childish re-runs of cut and paste of what we said day's earlier. What's your point? You are a certifiable imbicile.

By: Loner on 12/11/09 at 9:45

We got snow, Nemo, thanks for the kind word.

Things are very quiet this morning, on the Erie Canal. It's sunny right now, the canal is in the drained mode; they'll refill the big ditch in May. A few Canada Geese are still hanging around the widewaters, their occasional honks punctuate the silence, their klaxon-horn-like sound carries in the clear, cold December air.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 12/11/09 at 9:49

govskeptic, nice post.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 12/11/09 at 9:50

TGIF everyone!

By: Loner on 12/11/09 at 9:56

Not a raw nerve, Darge, a sore spot is more like it. I just wanted to get that out there, before the personal attacks begin.

Criticizing the state of Israel is a job for the thick-skinned and brave. Politicians and pundits are loathe to do it, so I do what I can.

With the advent of the internet, we malcontents are getting traction; more people are waking up to the dangers of entangling the USA with foreign theocracies and the foolish "restoration of an ancient Divine Right homeland" scheme....it's profoundly goofy and it is fundamentally un-American.

By: Kosh III on 12/11/09 at 10:03

Loner
Why do they drain the canal?

By: Captain Nemo on 12/11/09 at 10:04

It is just cold here Loner and no sun. But I am glad to here that the snow you got did not get you.

By: slacker on 12/11/09 at 10:07

Loner I agree with you. What do you think would have happened if Harry Truman had refused to recognize Israel?

By: Captain Nemo on 12/11/09 at 10:16

TGIF to you Blanket.

By: Loner on 12/11/09 at 10:16

That's a good question, Kosh. Actually, they do not completely drain it, they leave enough water in the system for stream augmentation etc. The canal cut throught the courses of many rivers and streams, some streams go under the big ditch in huge culverts; some go over, in aqueducts (rare); many of these streams are augmented with canal water to increase their capacity to carry away treated sewage effluent from villages built on the banks of these rivers and streams.

They claim that if the canal were left full, the ice would erode the banks, at the tops of the embankments. Sometimes winter comes early, and the canal freezes before being drained...it's an awesome sight to see a late-season boater cutting through the icy crust.

The remnant canal water freezes; if it's cold enough, we sometimes skate on it, the bikepath becomes a cross-country ski venue.. Some dare to ride snowmoblies on the ice...it's risky business because the ice is not good under the bridges or over the culverts.

TGIF, Blanket! Good morning everyone!
sidney, I have a recommendation for you: DECAF! LOL

By: Captain Nemo on 12/11/09 at 10:19

'What if' is a big concept, slacker. What if Columbus had not sailed?

By: slacker on 12/11/09 at 10:28

Nemo, if Columbus hadn't sailed, someone else would have eventually.
Loner is very knowledgeable on Zionism, just wanted his opinion on Truman's decision.

By: slacker on 12/11/09 at 9:07
Loner I agree with you. What do you think would have happened if Harry Truman had refused to recognize Israel?

good question. i often ponder that myself.

By: Loner on 12/11/09 at 10:33

Harry S. Truman recognized the nascent Jewish state 11 minites after the Jewish Declaration of Independence was announced. Harry made fast decisions and then never revisited them. Nuking Hiroshima and Nagasaki, The Korean War, recognition and bankrolling the Jewish state in Palestine, allowing the French to reclaim their pre-war colonial empire etc. etc. Harry screwed up on all levels.

Harry should have invited the Holocaust survivors to come here, but since many in the USA hated Jews at the time, he opted to support militant Zionism on stolen Arrab land, rather than suffer the political fallout for bringing the Holocaust survivors to America. What a creep.

Truman was a shallow man who has been given too much credit and not enough criticism. Truman's hasty decisions led to the Korean and eventually to the Vietnam War. He engineered the Cold War. Truman gave the Israelis carte blanch to wreak havoc on the Muslim Arabs of Palestine, we are still suffering the effects of Harry's inadequacies.

By: Captain Nemo on 12/11/09 at 10:34

That is true slacker, but would the same events have taken place if someone else had discovered American first. Let say the Chinese had found the west coast and colonized. What then?

By: slacker on 12/11/09 at 10:39

Nemo, Chinese new year, lots of rice, lots & lots of rice.

By: Loner on 12/11/09 at 10:41

To answer your questions, in my opinion, if Truman had refused to recognize Israel, while inviting the Diapora to America, the whole thing could have been nipped in the bud. The Holy Land might have evolved into a tourist mecca and a model of sectarian co-existence; as we know, it didn't. On the contrary, Palestine is now a police state and an apartheid, nuclear-armed time bomb - the staging grounds for a self-fulfilling prophecy - the Battle of Armageddon.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 12/11/09 at 10:47

interesting points, Loner.

By: Loner on 12/11/09 at 10:47

Ooops! "Diapora" SHB "Diaspora", mea culpa. A "diaspora" is the dispersed seed of an ethnic group, when capitalized, it usually refers to the Jewish Diaspora. Again, no offense...
