Seeing red over lack of Blue Raiders

I was dismayed and disappointed in The City Paper for making another colossal mistake for overlooking MTSU again!

Middle Tennessee State University, which has 26,000 students, was not mentioned in the Monday edition [Dec. 14] ...as usual. Instead of writing about a 9-3 football team (which is the best college record in the state this year at the Division 1-A level) that will be playing a 7-5 Southern Mississippi in a nationally televised bowl game on ESPN [in] prime time Sunday night, they have Larry Woody's "That's Racin" column about "Good Ole Boy" local stock car racing from Highland Rim Speedway.

The City Paper has no problem covering the University of Tennessee athletics which is 176 miles from Nashville. Granted UT has many graduates in Nashville, but not near as many as Middle Tennessee State University. You won't omit the Music City Bowl. You will cover the University of Kentucky and Clemson University, but as usual you overlook the largest undergraduate university in the state right down the road.

MTSU is in the Nashville Davidson County MSA and should be covered in The City Paper. Murfreesboro has a population of 75,000 and a county population of 150,000. Highland Rim is a very small town and is NOT part of the Nashville MSA. MTSU will be going for its 10th win of the season, over $1,000,000 in bowl winnings, and a possible ranking in the final AP and USA Today Coaches Poll. What happens at a local stock car track 20 or more miles away is not suitable for The City Paper.

The City Paper published its demographics not too long ago. As I recall the average reader has a four-year college degree and a median family income of over $50,000 a year. This demographic does not typically follow racing, especially local "good ole boy" racing.

I am sure the 25,000 plus MTSU graduates in Davidson County would much rather have a MTSU Bowl Preview column rather than a racing column about local racing not many in Nashville or certainly your readership care about. Maybe next Monday you will cover the outcome of the game.

John Mathieson, Nashville

Right, blanket! As a woman, you know how bitchy us women can be sometimes!

As a man I do too

LOL Nemo!!! Sorry I beat you to the other thing but, I did think about you when I was posting it! I know what a Trek fan you are!

Avatar looks a little intriguing but I'm waiting for Sherlock Holmes on C'mas day!

By: Captain Nemo on 12/16/09 at 1:59

That is ok MamaG

I want to see Holmes too. I will before it leaves. I think it will around for a while.

I had a free airlne ticket and used it today. So this year I will spend a few extra days in Las Vegas before and after the ST convention.

By: MamaG on 12/16/09 at 2:03

Sounds like it will be a fun trip, Nemo! Remember, leave whatever happens, out there! LOL

I'm ready to move to a beach somewhere. I really like the Outer Banks and would move back to Jekyll Island (GA) in a heartbeat. I like Wilmington and the Carolina/Kure beach area too. I'm not to hep on SC although I did like the Hunting Island SP and could easily live in that area. I just need some warmth and sunshine and the sound of the ocean...

By: MamaG on 12/16/09 at 2:05

Oh yeah, about Holmes--it really looks good although I am having a hard time imagining Robert Downey Jr as Holmes. Basil Rathbone was the epitomy of Holmes IMO. And, Jude Law isn't big enough for Watson, IMO. But, as a major fan of Holmes, I will go see it!

By: Captain Nemo on 12/16/09 at 2:06

That sound nice MamaG.

Wilmington is a place I want to see. It is on my list of things to do.

By: MamaG on 12/16/09 at 2:13

My son has an aunt/uncle that live there and he has applied to Univ. of NC at Wilmington. If he goes there, I would at least have fun when I visited him! It is a nice place. Oh, Beaufort, SC is really nice too. I could live there. I think I'm just ready for a change of scenery. When he's gone to college, I may just move to the beach! LOL

By: MamaG on 12/16/09 at 2:16

In 2001, I left my job of almost 12 yrs and packed everything up and went on a trip. We started at Virginia Beach and traveled all the way down the coast to FL. We camped most of the way but had to get hotels here and there to dry out our camping gear. We ended up getting an efficiency apt at jekyll island and I just fell in love with the place. We were gone for over 2 months and it was fun! I wouldn't do it again--at least not the same way but, it was an adventure for sure!

I have been looking at Vancover,BC. I like cooler weather and Mountains and Forest.

Maybe if I look hard enough I can see Russia. wink wink

By: Blanketnazi2 on 12/16/09 at 2:18

lol, Nemo. i've been to Vancouver. very nice and very clean. i just don't like all the rain.

By: MamaG on 12/16/09 at 2:18

LOL!!! I love the mountains and forests. I don't mind snow. What I don't like is being cold! I don't think I could live in a cold climate for very long. My ex is in Alaska and I know for sure I couldn't live there!

I'm waiting for Tim Burton's new Alice in Wonderland. Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, why who else?

Anyone got any suggestions on defrosting a -80 degree freezer without raising the temp.? Using a hammer is a huge pain.

By: Captain Nemo on 12/16/09 at 2:25

Yes brrrk.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 12/16/09 at 2:27

Nemo, take the ferry to Victoria, BC and go to the Museum of Natural History. there are ancient totem poles there that are very cool. there is also an old English hotel where you can have high tea. Victoria is not that far from Vancouver and is worth the trip.

I too can't wait to see Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland! Looks trippy!

Damn it, Nemo. you're taking the fun out of it! LOL

By: house_of_pain on 12/16/09 at 2:30

Nemo, this a really big freezer full of tissue samples. I can't do anything that might raise the temp. above -80.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 12/16/09 at 2:30

By: Captain Nemo on 12/16/09 at 2:31

Crap I know what your are talking about. That I can't help you with. Maybe they will know at the Red Cross. Know anybody there?

By: house_of_pain on 12/16/09 at 2:37

bc needs to be put down.
No, Nemo, I don't. I don't have anywhere else to put the samples.
It looks like I'm gonna have to hammer it out.

By: slacker on 12/16/09 at 2:50

By: Captain Nemo on 12/16/09 at 2:52

Ok I must have mis something.

You and sid.. Just kidding sid

You still need to see a doctor if you haven't already. Dog bits are nothing to laught about.

Does the dog have all it's shots?

By: slacker on 12/16/09 at 2:54

yep. that very one.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 12/16/09 at 2:56

Nemo, i'm talking of bordercollie who is posting on the page about the fairgrounds. LOL! i've had a dog bite before. you're right - you need to address those asap because they get infected.

btw, i don't think bc has had shots. spaying and a good flea bath may be in order too.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 12/16/09 at 2:58

slacker, i don't think he included that in the book. however, he did have an excellent recipe for a-hole soup.

By: Captain Nemo on 12/16/09 at 3:04

How big is the tube for the flees?

By: slacker on 12/16/09 at 3:05

And eyeball stew.

By: Captain Nemo on 12/16/09 at 3:09

And eyeball stew.

For some reason I'm hungry.

By: house_of_pain on 12/16/09 at 3:41

slacker, yes, bc was the one going off about wine in Kroger's.
She needs to change her handle to borderline psychocollie.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 12/16/09 at 3:46

lol, house! that's classic.

By: house_of_pain on 12/16/09 at 3:50

Okay, I'm back...had to defend a helpless puppy from some 'nazi on the other thread...

By: house_of_pain on 12/16/09 at 3:56

Interesting thing about border collies: they tend to only bond with 1 human...
and all others are considered a threat.

By: house_of_pain on 12/16/09 at 4:04

Too bad Tiger Woods wasn't part border collie...

From yesterday.

Page two

I have come to the conclusion the sidneyames and chiefpayne must come from the same gene pool of drama queen and just plain dim-witted.

I am not a drama queen Capt. I am merely a queen in my own right.

mamma, I read about your statement regarding you and your girls. When my mom was marrying my stepfather I was 21 and upset. She sat me down and said "LIFE is a parade. If you want to be in MY parade, get BEHIND me. If you don't, then start your own" I never bitched about my stepfather after that.

He was married to her and adored her for 33 years till he died. She deserved her own parade -- and even though I'm not nearly the woman she was -- I got behind her and stayed in her parade. Glad I did.

Go mamma. You sound like a strong, and loving person.

D7, DIVORCED? Now I know why you're so mean. Got kicked out!

By: Captain Nemo on 12/17/09 at 2:41

Just in case there is not a new letter.

Good morning.

By: Loner on 12/17/09 at 6:34

No new letter at 7:02 a.m. Nashville Time. Good morning capt. and Loner.

I just hung out a load of laundry on the line; looks like a good day to dry clothes cheaply.
