Athletes fall so far

Great perspective on the accountability (or lack thereof) of professional athletes! [City Paper, Dec. 21] We are all accountable but it's good to hear someone vocalize the fact that these men and women are no different.

We, the general public, should not idolize them so much that we lose perspective for the high standards of marriage.

I personally feel that these men and women lack a personal relationship with God or they wouldn't fall so far. [That's] not to say that every Christian does things perfectly, it just gives you the perspective, discipline and the accountability it takes to honor your marital relationship.

Thanks again for writing what a lot of other people think.

Michael Kerrigan, Nashville

Loner - a lot of religious people would say so but Romans 10 :9 & 10 lays out how to get "Born again".
9:That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10:For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Nothing in there about believing Jesus is god.

Dusty, your Genetics 101 is dubious science. You are talking about parthenogenesis, in such a case, the individual would be haploid and female. Christ was a heterosexual virgin stud, according to the born-agains. Please explain.

How do you know Loner, did you look up his robe?

By: MamaG on 12/29/09 at 12:43

I have a hard time truly believing the whole virgin birth thing. I just don't know and can't seem to find one belief that makes sense to me. I mean, I pray, I ask for help/guidance, etc. I pray for my loved ones and friends to be well and for their needs. I am just not sure and my uncertainty is a real conflict with me working in a church.

Jusy kiddind DustyU. There are some people on this board that will comdemn you for your philosophy.

By: DustyU on 12/29/09 at 12:44

I think Dusty is a breath of rational fresh air. And I'm not even religious...but I'm starting to feel strange...like a power surging through me...oh, that's gas. Nevermind.

By: DustyU on 12/29/09 at 12:46

CptN - yeah and in church too.

LOL Well Bacchus and Baucus sound similar. He can deny it all he wants but he sure looked under the influence of something to me. So he wants to deny it was alcohol? Ok then, must have been drugs.

Senator Max Baucus denies being drunk during Senate speech

marriage is for the middle class (which normally requires two income) Wealthy individuals should never consider marriage. The rules (including the pre-nuptial agreements) are always against those individuals with money.. As most of you are vaguely aware there are only two things on this earth that count. MONEY & GOOD HEALTH

gdiafante - I'm not religious either. Religion is what man has made out of Christianity.

Why would such an omnipotent supreme being even need a female human to create a human son? A little dust, some divine spittle is all he needed, why would the creator of the universe knock up an unmarried young woman just to create a human "son"?

Yeah, I know, it's faith-based.

I'm just a caveman and all this electronics frighten me, but it seems fairly obvious that the New Testament played out as it was supposed to. Having an adult son of God suddenly appear in the temple to destroy the evil Romans really wasn't the point, was it?

Enjoyable discussion all but I need to get to work now. Will check back later.

God is bigger than any religon.

By: Loner on 12/29/09 at 12:57

Perfect blood sacrifice to atone for our sins? Dusty is not a breath of rational fresh air, he's a human sacrifice freak. Well read, yes, rational, I doubt it.

By: chiefpayne568 on 12/29/09 at 12:58

Nemo,

Actually, I'm not. I'm multi-tasking. I know...beyond your scope of understanding.

See you DustyU

Actually, I like what my priest once told me when asked about multiple religions. He said, there are many roads to Heaven too. It doesn't matter which road we take as long as we all get there together.

" massuse"? D7 said "massuse" ! Besides spelling it incorrectly, he used an outdated term.

The profession is Licensed Massage Therapist; Massage Practitioner; or Bodyworker.

D7, please don't get a massage. Having to rub your body would destroy a person for life. Oh my gosh. All that hair on your back; legs and arms. Eeeeeeee gads! Spare them please.

And Mamma, faith is about having faith. It's what you believe down deep inside.

Read Elisabeth Kuebler-Ross "on death and dying" plus read God Calling. They are great books to sort of deal with faith or lack thereof.

By: gdiafante on 12/29/09 at 1:02

He's not a human sacrifice freak. No more than you're an anti-Semetic freak.

Right?

By: Loner on 12/29/09 at 1:04

Wrong.

By: Captain Nemo on 12/29/09 at 1:12

lol gdia.

I think Ben is still BenDover in DC from his tea bagger friend. If you know what I mean.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 12/29/09 at 1:15

why would an omnipotent god require a blood sacrefice?

By: Captain Nemo on 12/29/09 at 1:18

BVlanket, I think that God has been created in the image of Man. Not the other way around.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 12/29/09 at 1:18

The Boy Scouts have defended their exclusion policy, taking the battle to the U.S. Supreme Court, which upheld the group’s right, as a private organization, to determine who may belong. But the group has continued to generate controversy, since it is in some cases entwined with city programs.
http://www.edgeboston.com/index.php?ch=news&sc=&sc2=news&sc3=&id=100459

if they want to be a private organization and have the right to discriminate who belongs, they need to not accept public money by affiliation with city programs.

I completely agree with that.

By: Captain Nemo on 12/29/09 at 1:29

Sorry about the BVanklet..Blanket.

If you read in what is twisted into the frame work of religons all gods seem very human and petty.

By: dargent7 on 12/29/09 at 1:30

Sid Vicious: Yes, but of course. And prostitutes are called, "ladies of the evening", and being pregnant is, "being in the family way", and Tiger Woods and Charlie Sheen's hookers and porn stars were called, "hostesses" and "escorts" and "media types".
How's that again, your "bodywork" title?

By: gdiafante on 12/29/09 at 1:32

Well, they couldn't have said 5000 years ago that man was created in the image of an oxygen-respirating, terrestrial organism.

Although I've always thought that we were created in the image of Chuck Norris.

By: sidneyames on 12/29/09 at 1:32

You know blanket, I have to disagree with you. The Boy Scouts usually receive money from those who endorse their credo.'

Can men join the women's clubs? Can women join the men's clubs? Can a white person join the "100 Black Men Club" or the 100 Black women club? NO. Just try it.

By: Captain Nemo on 12/29/09 at 1:32

LOL d7

By: Blanketnazi2 on 12/29/09 at 1:33

sid, if they receive private money that's great. however, they should not be allowed to use public funds.

"And since they are a private organization, per the Supreme Court ruling, aren't they allowed to believe what they want?"

Absolutely, any private organization can. Them, the KKK, the Masons, etc etc

By: Captain Nemo on 12/29/09 at 1:48

Oh Blanket. When I have time to read that I will.

Wonder if you know who reads that will have a brick bible over it?

By: gdiafante on 12/29/09 at 2:22

I have a vinyl sided Bible. It's wonderful unless there's fire, brimstone or hail.

By: MamaG on 12/29/09 at 2:34

I have a punk rock Bible cover. Blanket knows...lol

I just finished taking about 3 bible trivia quizzes for the newsletter I'm working on. There are some very, very strange things in the Bible!!!! Flying Seraphim, Wheels on Fire (I know, I thought that was Siouxie & the Banshees, too), oh my gosh, I could just go on but I won't...strange though!
