Fox and the hound

It seems Fox's Brit Hume has some timely advice for Tiger Woods. Learning that Woods favored Buddhism, and knowing of his pandemic marital strife, Hume through down the gauntlet.

According to Hume, Christianity is the only religion that "offers redemption, mercy and forgiveness." Pat Robertson of the 700 Club was quick to respond and concur.

Woods, who's mistresses equal or out-number the holes of golf he plays, can find solace in converting over to Jesus. Just like that.

But, if converted, does that change the reality, pain and affliction [he] caused his wife? I guess there's nothing like Jesus to change one's handicap.

Mr. D'Argent: In earlier posts you have indicated that you were raised Roman Catholic. You have mentioned that you still enjoy the ritual associated with the religion. However, numerous posts have expressed near disdain for Christianity. One might reasonably infer from this that you have retained form, but abandoned substance. Sometimes, as in this LTE, glib remarks are made that would be consistent with a superficial treatment of religious, or even sacred subjects. Flippancy under the guise of sarcasm is poorly concealed.

These comments are not intended to censure you. Such is not my function, and the term judgmental, so frequently used on this board, would not be appropriate. (The Biblical meaning is usually misunderstood, and widely misused.) The purpose in my observations was to remind you that there was possibly a time in your younger years when you would have agreed with Brit and Pat.

Based on Tiger's own confessions of infidelity, most people would agree that he needs to straighten out his life. (If this is not the case, why would his sponsors drop him?) If he were to truly become a Christian, he would find redemption, which includes mercy and forgiveness.

Obviously, there are many acts that we can commit where forgiveness can be sought, but the deeds not undone. So the harm and hurt remain. In some cases a measure of remedy is possible, and in Tiger's situation no doubt that will be meted out in dollars. Still, his wife and children, and to a lesser degree many others will suffer.

A bird with a broken wing might heal, but it is unlikely to ever soar at its previous heights. Tiger might return to golf as number one in the world, and remain there for years. However, putting his whole life back together, and again enjoying the approbation of millions might not be possible--at least not at the same altitude.

bnakat: May I suggest you consult with my friends Merriam & Webster today.
Start with the word; santimonious.
This particulat LTE is highly edited. So, it appears like I'm poking fun at Christianity.
That's true.
Brit Hume's remarks are making big news currently, and he's being forced to defend them. He stumbles along and buries himself deeper at every attempt.
For the record, and full disclosure, I was baptised and confirmed Catholic.
But, I quickly became a "hybrid" while at college and adult life.
I followed the teachings of the Maharishi (TM) , The Beatles guy.
Personally, Hinduism and Bhuddism, Taosim are lighyears ahead of your everyday, run of the mill, Christianity.
I do not believe one can murder his entire family, the neighbors, and every pet, go to prison and "find Jeusus", and "be saved", and then live in paradise for eternity.
Any more than the suicide bombers/ airplane hijackers who believe they'll see Al'lah and have 78 virgins at their beckened call.
I've lived in "paradise", Maui, Hawai'i, and after 10 years it get's boring.
Tiger Woods "turning his life over to the good Lord" may be fine for saving his own hide, but how about his humiliated wife and children?
I could go on and on, but you get my point, as well as I got your's.

Who still give's a rat's ass about Tiger Woods? It's played out. Let it be.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/6/10 at 7:28

Good morning.

I'm with you Loner. Enough is enough.

Let talk about the merits of all religions. Case in point why do the God or Gods of all earth religions seem to have the traits of a human?

By: Funditto on 1/6/10 at 7:50

I considered writing a letter yesterday but was sidetracked.

Did anyone else watch NY Times Square on New Years? Anyone else notice that just about everyone there had their heads buried in their cell phones and blackberries at midnight instead of watching the ball drop or kissing someone? It seems like anytime an historic event or celebration is going on, people in attendance miss the entire thing so that they can reach out and text someone. Times have changed, haven't they?

By: house_of_pain on 1/6/10 at 7:58

Tiger who?

By: Captain Nemo on 1/6/10 at 8:02

Speaking of good Christian Love. Check out what sidneyames last two post last night.

That there is what she had to say over the long weekend. She quotes Obama as saying that "We are not at war." but fails to mention the last to words of his speech...."with Islam." That changes the whole meaning.

She does not agree with the Jehovah Witness or the Cathloic Doctrine, but loves the people that do believe. When I ask her about the Muslism she never replyed.

sid is a funny person.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/6/10 at 8:07

Fun ditto, I was asleep News Years, But was waken many times from peopl wishing me Happy New Years. Never fails. lol

What Tiger, house?

By: dargent7 on 1/6/10 at 8:09

It's not about Tiger's ass, or a rat's ass. It's about Brit Hume and his comment concerning Christianity trumping Wood's Bhuddism. Read before you knee-jerk a PC line of rubbish.

"Start with the word; santimonious.
This particulat LTE is highly edited. So, it appears like I'm poking fun at Christianity."

You mean "sanCtimonious?"
How is it highly edited? Did it change your meaning?

This just drags out an unsavory event which is better off ignored. We put waaaaaay too much attention on sports and entertainment people.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/6/10 at 8:14

Oh I see says the blind man to the deaf man. This is going to be about religon today.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/6/10 at 8:16

Speaking of entertainment. The right-wing hates the movie Avatar.

By: house_of_pain on 1/6/10 at 8:27

Brit Hume is a tool.

By: Funditto on 1/6/10 at 8:31

I read that about Avatar Nemo. Now I want to go see. Although I must admit, it annoys me when movies go overboard sending a "message." Happy Feet is a perfect case in point.

By: Funditto on 1/6/10 at 8:33

I'm hearing a buzz among my far leaning left friends that our government was behind the Underwear Bomber so that we can go to another war and score some points with the people. Anyone agree?

By: Kosh III on 1/6/10 at 8:40

I've seen Avatar. I can't see what would be so objectionable. It was a great visual movie but the story was predicatable.

By: house_of_pain on 1/6/10 at 8:42

I wouldn't buy into that, Fun.
I also have no interest in Avatar...not my type of film.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/6/10 at 9:03

I loved Happy Feet. How far is overboard when the far right has got the country dipping into the water.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/6/10 at 9:10

The objection is that it shows the greedy coperation world in a bad light. How an arrogant civilation knows what is best for another culture. Plus it is a nice love story. Oh yes it was some what predicable. As I have heard from others it has something for everyone.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/6/10 at 9:11

What is your type house? ;-}

By: Captain Nemo on 1/6/10 at 9:12

As soon as I as hit post comment I think I may have made a mistake. lol

By: rldavenport@com... on 1/6/10 at 9:13

D'argent: If you don't believe that a murderer can be forgiven and "be saved" (no matter how heinous the murder), then you don't believe that the apostle Paul was converted to Christ and forgiven of his past transgressions. He was guilty of being an accessory to murdering who knows how many Christians in the first century (and he admitted it) before he learned the truth of Jesus being the Savior.

You can believe what you want, but you also need to look at yourself in the mirror before you use terms like "sanctimonious" and "judgmental."

By: house_of_pain on 1/6/10 at 9:15

Tiger needs to get back playing golf. Who cares what he does with his personal life?

By: chiefpayne568 on 1/6/10 at 9:42

Since the subject matter appears to be a bit light, a change of subject seems in order.

How the devil Pelosi was able to say this with a straight face when questioned after coming out of a closed door meeting on healthcare is beyond me. Is there anyone, even those who are for this bill, who could actually hear this without laughing?

Nancy Pelosi takes swipe at President Obama's campaign promises

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0110/31180_Page2.html

"“There has never been a more open process,” a testy Pelosi told reporters in response to repeated questions about a request by C-SPAN chief Brian Lamb to allow cameras in the House-Senate negotiations. "

By: dargent7 on 1/6/10 at 9:43

Who cares what Tiger does with his personal life?
How about his wife and in-laws?
How about AT&T?
And all the other companies dropping him quicker than a 2 foot putt.

By: gdiafante on 1/6/10 at 9:45

"Since the subject matter appears to be a bit light, a change of subject seems in order."

No, it doesn't. Nice try though.

I can't get enough Tiger. I love a good train wreck.

Rupert Murdock should be committed if he has not already been. He assembled the largest group of nutcases to represent The Fox News Network that could be found in the world . How can any expect credibility from this group of idiots.
Bill O'reilly a school yard bully , Shawn Hannity a raving right wing maniac with the intellect of a cuppuchian monkey , Britt Hume an ignorant zealot, Glen Beck a fringe right crybaby and Greta with he facial skin stretched so tight that you could play it like a drum. I never thought I would see the day that I could consider Geraldo the smart one of any group but he comes the nearest than any of his com padres.

By: dargent7 on 1/6/10 at 9:52

rldavenport: The Christian paradigm of leading a wretcherous life including large scale murder, then "finding Jesus" and all is well, is no different than the "jihadist's" interpretation of the Qu'ran who believe they can blow themselves up and everyone with them, go to Al'lah, and have a vestibule of virgins. There's no difference in the mental psychosis.
Except, one originates in the Middle East and the other in the West.
Your concept of Christianity is very convient for those who spend their lives on Earth without regard to human life, even take anothers', yet it all comes out in the wash, and all is forgiven.
I don't think so.

By: chiefpayne568 on 1/6/10 at 9:57

I think there's a misconception about the press. The Constitution doesn't guarantee an unbiased press, just a free one. Fox has the right to put as many nuts on the air as they please.

By: gdiafante on 1/6/10 at 9:59

According to the Bible, my pet mosquito isn't able to go to heaven. That's crap. I cannot belong to a religion of such exclusion.

By: dargent7 on 1/6/10 at 10:01

dooley: Come on now. At 5:00am don't you love to watch FOX New's bottle blondes sit between Doocey and Kilmeade? And on weekends between Briggs & Straton? All the female anchors are bleached, implanted, lipo-sucked, and have perfect teeth. It's almost impossible for them to hire anyone with a chipped tooth or a gray hair.
Even the men look like Ken, the doll.
I'm with you that Geraldo is starting to look like a mensa. Besides, he dropped LSD w/ John Lennon so how bad can he be?

By: dargent7 on 1/6/10 at 10:05

Chief: You staunch Repubs are counting by two's again, trying to scathe Obama. He was away 3 days after Christmas. Bush was holding the Saudi King's hand giving him a personal tour of Crawford for 6 days before he addressed Richard Reid, the shoe bomber. Paul, nice LTE in the Sunday paper.

By: chiefpayne568 on 1/6/10 at 10:08

Dargent,

At least Bush had a reason for not commenting...he was entertaining a head of state at the time. Try again.

By: dargent7 on 1/6/10 at 10:12

gdia: Don't fret. I hear Heaven looks fondly upon Italians. Who else could fry the fresh, thinly sliced garlic for the pasta and spagetti and meat balls?

By: dargent7 on 1/6/10 at 10:13

dargent you are so silly, trying to show facts to chief. He is like sid. He can only hear/see the truth to a point and then he is off to Never Never Land.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/6/10 at 10:15

Hello Blanket. How you been?

By: chiefpayne568 on 1/6/10 at 10:18

Nemo's right...why in the world would I expect our President to interrupt his vacation long enough to make a statement, at the very least saying something was amiss.

Or why would I expect Pelosi to actually allow open debate and viewing of a healthcare bill when she said she would do so a year ago?

Yep, those darn facts.
