Keeping an eye out

On Jan. 11, the story I have been waiting for finally broke on the CBS Evening News! It detailed how several members of the U.S. Congress went to the Climate Summit in Copenhagen in 2009. None of them had any impact whatsoever, and they should have known ahead of time that they would have no impact.

But here is what is really funny to me. The radio talk-show hosts made a big deal out of the Climate Summit and, as always, lambasted Al Gore, Jr. for his views. While doing this, talk show hosts such as Michael DelGiorno profusely praised Rep. Marsha Blackburn for attending the summit, stating that she was there to "keep an eye on Al Gore."

Never mind the fact that she, like all of the others, wasted an enormous amount of taxpayer money attending said summit. By the way, who were all the others there to keep an eye on?

And this week all one could hear on talk radio was the same stupidity out of them, especially Phil Valentine. Every single time it gets cold, [we] will hear him howl that it is some kind of proof that global warming, or climate change, isn't real.

You know, it's wonderful how intelligent he and others like him are. He is able to grasp the concept that the little warming spell that occured during the Middle Ages might be the result of a volcanic eruption. But he can't fathom the concept that humans are regularly putting almost exactly that kind of stuff up into the atmosphere on a continuous basis and that, because of this, humans really are causing a negative impact upon our climate.

No, for him, nothing humans do has any impact whatsoever so we should all just keep on doing exactly what we are already doing — polluting as much as we want to.

I'm starting to believe there is a God, after all. The world's watching this one, and we'll see how the USA responds.
These 100 countries who "backed" us on the invasion of Iraq are nowhere to be found.
If this doesn't make the phrase, "Game Change" more relevant...I don't give a shit what Palin's "handlers' thought or how she did on remedial tests, or what she said to McCain, or what Clinton said to Kennedy or what Reid said to his people.
This is REAL, in the now, happening, and it's "show time".
Put up, or shut up.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 1/14/10 at 10:19

dargent, just because it's not being reported by our media doesn't necessarily mean they're not providing support.

"Slacker sez, "Loner, I can't believe you take this nonsense so seriously.
Put Boot's Yakety Sax on."

You are absolutely right, Slack. Time to shift gears. I'm rolling a fattie right now....for Steve Cohen's sake.

Willie Nelson needs to call a Cannabis press conference...why wasn't Willie at this Cheech and Chong shindig? Or was he up on the roof, toking on a spleef?

Willie, we need you to speak out, now!

"About 27 countries have offered urban search and rescue teams and they're deploying at the moment," he said.

Maybe send FEMA. They did so well in LA with Katrina.

I didn't know Katrina made it all the way to cali!
Or are you referring to some street walker out there? :)

"GW would send 'em some Freedom Fries."

We need to help the good people of Hatia...heh, heh, heh....

According to Huffington Post, Obama has asked Idiot George and Clinton to help lead the effort.

By: gdiafante on 1/14/10 at 10:23

I think we're there, Blanket, it's just hard because of the debris and limited infrastructure. It's going to be a challenge, that's for sure.

Last thought: Put our goddamn Presidents on planes helping people out. Not in "war rooms", "strategy meetings", "fund raisers".....what's wrong with us?
Have then rolling up their sleeves and passing out food and medicine.
All these Presidents do is have "press conferences" spending 90% of their time denying anything's wrong, so and so didn't mean this or that, and nobody's to blame. Or, we're "working on it".
Any wonder America is in the shitter?

Dusty, the abbreviation for Louisiana is LA.

By: dargent7 on 1/14/10 at 10:26

Dusty: LA is the postal abbreviation for Louisiana.

gdia: You Italians always have us Frenchy's back side...thanks.

By: gdiafante on 1/14/10 at 10:27

Darge, never going to happen. What happens if an aftershock hits and the President is killed?

The President can't be put In Harm's Way. Mainly because the movie was made in 1962...

By: DustyU on 1/14/10 at 10:29

all - yes I know :)

By: gdiafante on 1/14/10 at 10:30

I think what we're seeing is a lot of people and equipment trying to get in, but they don't have the setup. If anything comes out of this in the long run is that some better infrastructure is put in place, not only to build structures that better withstand earthquakes, but also allow quick entry for relief operations.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 1/14/10 at 10:31

well, the infrastructure is so bad because Haiti is so poor.

By: Loner on 1/14/10 at 10:31

IMO, Jimmy Carter is the only "sleeves rolled up" ex-President currently working for the benefit of humanity. Clinton is trying his best, George Bush Junior might get hit by a Haitian shoe or two. George Senior is getting long in the tooth and short-winded, he's no help either.

Let's send in Cheney...never mind, that would mean sending in Haliburton - a very expensive proposition. Let's just waterboard Cheney, until he admits that he caused the earthquake.

By: DustyU on 1/14/10 at 10:31

I hate to have to explain my jokes - maybe I should give them up.
I was interring fema got confused, ended up in LA city with a hooker named Katrina rather than in Louisiana helping the victims :)

By: dargent7 on 1/14/10 at 10:33

Nazix2: There are more cameras filming this earthquake in Haiti than the Super Bowl. If our aircraft isn't on the ground, it's because it's not there. All American TV stations have set up camps by now. They want to protray the USA as the "crusader" who saved the Haitian people. Problem is, our help is tied up in Congress and law firms.

By: slacker on 1/14/10 at 10:34

Loner, Cohen is right on this, as he was on the Lottery in Tn. It put the numbers racket out of business, & the state gets tax revenue.
Same thing with Cannabis, & the crime rate, and the amount of rinky-dink drug charges disappear.
Willie is on holiday in France.

By: gdiafante on 1/14/10 at 10:34

The U.S. is the leading provider of monetary assistance to Haiti...the average Haitian lives on $2 a day. Damn.

By: DustyU on 1/14/10 at 10:36

Loner - Yeah Jimmy is our best exprez by far - lousy prez though.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 1/14/10 at 10:36

The US military is sending a ground assessment team and one of its P3 aircraft has been doing aerial reconnaissance, a Pentagon spokesman said. US Navy ships at bases along the East Coast have been told to be prepared to leave for Haiti and the United States could also begin using C-130 aircraft to fly supplies to Haiti.

By: Kosh III on 1/14/10 at 10:36

According to the list Blanket referenced, not ONE Arab/Islamic country has yet to offer help. I guess the Saudi's need their oil money too badly to waste it on helping some darkie infidels.

By: dargent7 on 1/14/10 at 10:36

gdia: All I know is the USA can send 5 aircraft carriers to Iraq to blow the shit out of the country. If we can do that, Haiti will need 6-9 months of aid to get back on it's feet, we can mount a sustained effort. But, they have zero oil, so who cares?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 1/14/10 at 10:37

United Arab Emrites is there. saw it on another link.

I forgot, D'Argent is French. Viva la France!

Hey I'm East Prussian (mom's side) and dammit I'll defend those East Prussians. You betcha! I will not tolerate anti-East-Prussianism.

Some Americans claim that assimilation is a bad thing, they equate assimilation with perfidy towards the mother country or their ethnic nationality...for these Americans, there is no melting pot here.....it's more of a tossed salad., w/o the dressing. They call it "multi-culturalism".

When bad or good things happen in life. God always get the blame. Why couldn't it be that God just sit things in motion and what happens is what happens.

Actually that is exactly right! except He set it in motion long ago.

I think it was before the Big Bang.

Dusty: LA is the postal abbreviation for Louisiana.

Dusty it is LA for Louisiana. lol

By: Loner on 1/14/10 at 10:59

Dusty, Carter was a victim of circumstance, blindsided by intelligence failures and surrounded with terrible advisors. Hindsight is20/20. He did secure the Egypt-Israel Peace Treaty. We should have joined the Russians in fighting Islamist terror in Afghanistan, instead of sending the terrorists stingers and pocket Koran's, printed in the USA. That was a terrible blunder.

As for "mj", please try using the term Cannabis, the genus of the botanical name for the actual plant. "Marijuana" is associated with crime. Cannabis is associated with herbal remedies and with hemp.

I agree, let the Haitians grow the herb for US and world markets. Same goes for Afghanistan, if they could grow Cannabis openly, they would radically reduce their (heroin) poppy crop, as irragable, arable land is scarce there.

Page one in your KJ Bible: Genesis 1:11 - "Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed...and God saw that it was good." That should silence the right-wing religionists.

One more thing, Dusty, the term "use" is a pejorative, we "enjoy" our Cannabis, we don't "use". Words are important.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 1/14/10 at 11:00

the free will explanation again? *sigh*

By: DustyU on 1/14/10 at 11:00

so NOBODY liked my joke about fema? I'm hurt!

By: DustyU on 1/14/10 at 11:02

blanket - without it you would have to agree with sid and chief :)

By: gdiafante on 1/14/10 at 11:03

I love free will. I'm really into free stuff.

However, I draw the line at free beans. No good can come from that.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/14/10 at 11:05

There were two c130 US planes there this morning. The inferstructuer in Haiti this morning and had left to get more supplies.

By: DustyU on 1/14/10 at 11:05

Loner - my bible says all things in moderation - includes drugs and alcohol - but if a person can't control their usage then they shouldn't touch them.
