Keeping an eye out
On Jan. 11, the story I have been waiting for finally broke on the CBS Evening News! It detailed how several members of the U.S. Congress went to the Climate Summit in Copenhagen in 2009. None of them had any impact whatsoever, and they should have known ahead of time that they would have no impact.
But here is what is really funny to me. The radio talk-show hosts made a big deal out of the Climate Summit and, as always, lambasted Al Gore, Jr. for his views. While doing this, talk show hosts such as Michael DelGiorno profusely praised Rep. Marsha Blackburn for attending the summit, stating that she was there to "keep an eye on Al Gore."
Never mind the fact that she, like all of the others, wasted an enormous amount of taxpayer money attending said summit. By the way, who were all the others there to keep an eye on?
And this week all one could hear on talk radio was the same stupidity out of them, especially Phil Valentine. Every single time it gets cold, [we] will hear him howl that it is some kind of proof that global warming, or climate change, isn't real.
You know, it's wonderful how intelligent he and others like him are. He is able to grasp the concept that the little warming spell that occured during the Middle Ages might be the result of a volcanic eruption. But he can't fathom the concept that humans are regularly putting almost exactly that kind of stuff up into the atmosphere on a continuous basis and that, because of this, humans really are causing a negative impact upon our climate.
No, for him, nothing humans do has any impact whatsoever so we should all just keep on doing exactly what we are already doing — polluting as much as we want to.

According to Huffington Post, Obama has asked Idiot George and Clinton to help lead the effort.
I think we're there, Blanket, it's just hard because of the debris and limited infrastructure. It's going to be a challenge, that's for sure.

All these Presidents do is have "press conferences" spending 90% of their time denying anything's wrong, so and so didn't mean this or that, and nobody's to blame. Or, we're "working on it".

I think what we're seeing is a lot of people and equipment trying to get in, but they don't have the setup. If anything comes out of this in the long run is that some better infrastructure is put in place, not only to build structures that better withstand earthquakes, but also allow quick entry for relief operations.
well, the infrastructure is so bad because Haiti is so poor.
IMO, Jimmy Carter is the only "sleeves rolled up" ex-President currently working for the benefit of humanity. Clinton is trying his best, George Bush Junior might get hit by a Haitian shoe or two. George Senior is getting long in the tooth and short-winded, he's no help either.
Let's send in Cheney...never mind, that would mean sending in Haliburton - a very expensive proposition. Let's just waterboard Cheney, until he admits that he caused the earthquake.

Nazix2: There are more cameras filming this earthquake in Haiti than the Super Bowl. If our aircraft isn't on the ground, it's because it's not there. All American TV stations have set up camps by now. They want to protray the USA as the "crusader" who saved the Haitian people. Problem is, our help is tied up in Congress and law firms.
Loner, Cohen is right on this, as he was on the Lottery in Tn. It put the numbers racket out of business, & the state gets tax revenue.
Same thing with Cannabis, & the crime rate, and the amount of rinky-dink drug charges disappear.

The US military is sending a ground assessment team and one of its P3 aircraft has been doing aerial reconnaissance, a Pentagon spokesman said. US Navy ships at bases along the East Coast have been told to be prepared to leave for Haiti and the United States could also begin using C-130 aircraft to fly supplies to Haiti.
According to the list Blanket referenced, not ONE Arab/Islamic country has yet to offer help. I guess the Saudi's need their oil money too badly to waste it on helping some darkie infidels.
gdia: All I know is the USA can send 5 aircraft carriers to Iraq to blow the shit out of the country. If we can do that, Haiti will need 6-9 months of aid to get back on it's feet, we can mount a sustained effort. But, they have zero oil, so who cares?

Dusty, Carter was a victim of circumstance, blindsided by intelligence failures and surrounded with terrible advisors. Hindsight is20/20. He did secure the Egypt-Israel Peace Treaty. We should have joined the Russians in fighting Islamist terror in Afghanistan, instead of sending the terrorists stingers and pocket Koran's, printed in the USA. That was a terrible blunder.
As for "mj", please try using the term Cannabis, the genus of the botanical name for the actual plant. "Marijuana" is associated with crime. Cannabis is associated with herbal remedies and with hemp.
I agree, let the Haitians grow the herb for US and world markets. Same goes for Afghanistan, if they could grow Cannabis openly, they would radically reduce their (heroin) poppy crop, as irragable, arable land is scarce there.

There were two c130 US planes there this morning. The inferstructuer in Haiti this morning and had left to get more supplies.
