Keeping an eye out
On Jan. 11, the story I have been waiting for finally broke on the CBS Evening News! It detailed how several members of the U.S. Congress went to the Climate Summit in Copenhagen in 2009. None of them had any impact whatsoever, and they should have known ahead of time that they would have no impact.
But here is what is really funny to me. The radio talk-show hosts made a big deal out of the Climate Summit and, as always, lambasted Al Gore, Jr. for his views. While doing this, talk show hosts such as Michael DelGiorno profusely praised Rep. Marsha Blackburn for attending the summit, stating that she was there to "keep an eye on Al Gore."
Never mind the fact that she, like all of the others, wasted an enormous amount of taxpayer money attending said summit. By the way, who were all the others there to keep an eye on?
And this week all one could hear on talk radio was the same stupidity out of them, especially Phil Valentine. Every single time it gets cold, [we] will hear him howl that it is some kind of proof that global warming, or climate change, isn't real.
You know, it's wonderful how intelligent he and others like him are. He is able to grasp the concept that the little warming spell that occured during the Middle Ages might be the result of a volcanic eruption. But he can't fathom the concept that humans are regularly putting almost exactly that kind of stuff up into the atmosphere on a continuous basis and that, because of this, humans really are causing a negative impact upon our climate.
No, for him, nothing humans do has any impact whatsoever so we should all just keep on doing exactly what we are already doing — polluting as much as we want to.

The joke went over my head, Dusty. That's easy to do.
If the National Guard wasn't deployed in Iraq and in Afghanistan, we might be able to offer more assistance. The NG used to do humanitarian work, now they are part-time mercenaries, deployed half-way around the world, kicking down doors, screaming at the natives - through a well-paid quisling interpreter, of course.
capt - the US is always slow getting started but usually gets there - hopefully in time to save some lives
agree with sid and chief about what?

I would have to shoot the little feller, for the good of the country. lol
Dusty: my bible says "eat at Luigi's"
"United Arab Emrites is there. saw it on another link."
You mean Dubai? What are they gonna do? show em how to file for bankruptcy?
Mine says "Don't forget to breathe".

That was a mighty long and informative post: now shut up and pass it!
Puff, puff, give.
Blanket - ref your sigh - everything! - disagreeing not allowed without f/w
I read a reliable source that claimed Afghanistan is draining the US Treasury to the tune of ten million dollars per hour - it costs one the US a million bucks per year to support just one soldier there. Iraq is a little cheaper, they claim. How long can we keep this up?
We have guns aplenty, the butter is scarce these days. Uncle Sam will do what he can, but he's bogged down in twin quagmires at the moment.... thanks to Bush-Cheney, the War Lobby and the neocons.
And still, there are those who would prefer the Bush-Cheney-McCain-Palin approach to governance, go figure.
Sorry for the reefer rant...passin' it here...cough, cough..like wow, man.
Dusty.....you wrote, "Loner - my bible says all things in moderation - includes drugs and alcohol." that may be sound advice, but Cannabis is not a drug, it is a plant. THC is the active ingredient in Cannabis, if synthesized in a lab, such THC could be rightly called a "drug". In like manner, Tobacco is not a drug, it too is a plant. The "drug" in Tobacco is nicotine, of course.
Cannabis smokers are not "drug users" any more than cigarette smokers are. People don't "use" nicotine, they smoke cigarettes. It's all in the language.
The roach is still smoldering...back to you House.
Like, wowzers...I'm ready for a Scooby Snack.
I googled Pat Robertson and found that he and Rush Limbaugh are taking heat from the left and right from their comments about haiti.
The arranant of this two maybe their downfall.
Loner - in my book they are both drugs - I quit a 5 pack a day habit (camel nonfilters) in 75 and the doctors told me I had 8% lung capacity left - think they were just trying to scare me but I still can't run much more than a mile without coughing up a lung or two :)
Robertson and Limbaugh are two giant morons. Anyone that takes them seriously deserve what they get.
Waterboard Limbaugh! Waterboard Pastor Roberstson! We'll soon find out who is to blame for this atrocity. Based on that information, we can proceed intelligently.
capt - they make a good pair don't they - both full of S@#t
Cannabis is no more a drug than oregano.
Both can be used as "flavor enhancers".
I wouldn't advise mixing oregano in your brownie batter, however.

house - so you are saying that smoking tobacco won't hurt you as long as you roll your own leaf rather than buying factory processed cigarettes?
Both chief and BenDover think they are the greates. I hope we don't have to hear their song and dance to explain what their heros were saying.
Yes, Loner, I'm French.
I was born just East of Paris...Detroit.
I think "Detroit" was a French Native Indian, like "Cadillac" and "Pontiac". Or Edsel and Studebaker. Chief "Corvair" was part of my tribe. My little sister was "GTO".
Perhaps you've heard of her?
How much longer until gd's brew hits the market? I'm thirsty.
I won't defend or support the Tobacco industry, but I would support a person's right to smoke whatever they want to smoke. Yeah, spare me the "costs to society" argument - it's 90% lobbyist propaganda.
me too, house!

Not exactly, Dusty, but tobacco is a plant, not a drug, in my book.

And, another:
President Barack Obama on Thursday proposed a new fee on major banking firms to recover "every single dime" taxpayers shelled out to rescue Wall Street from the economic crisis.

Obama wants to tax the banks to recover ALL the TARP money (banking, automakers, mortgage assistance). And, the banks will be taxed whether or not they took TARP money. Seems punitive. But, we must punish the evil rich.
loner - true - I support that right too - but let's not fool ourselves with semantics - we should call the kettle black when it is - people don't smoke because it tastes good - they want the drug effects.
Show of hands: how many here have ever taken d7's "little sister" for a test drive?
Well, not sure it's ready...but you can find it under the "Aigre Pipi" label in most Krogers...
house - me - but like I said before I'm a corvair fan :)
Dragon, that's not "punishing the evil rich."
It is time to wag the dragon.
Dragon, you're diaper is leaking. Nasty.

You're right. That is punishing the bank's customers. You and me.

camel nonfilters... Now thems the real deal.. I know, I used to smoke'm myself. Everything else is like candy cigarettes after them.
Dragon must have heard from his master and has been told to bark.
I see top finally woke up and realized that something had happened outside of Green Acres (oh I'm sorry I meant Green Hills) Their front page actually references some place called Haiti where something bad might have happened.

Nahh, I used to smoke Kool Menthol.
Cigarettes are a drug. At less it was for me. It only took me a week at age 17 to become adictive and 25 yrs later before I could stop. That was after 4 yrs of trying to stop.
