New York state of mind
This letter is in response to A.C. Kleinheider's opinion piece on Harold Ford, Jr., entitled, Difficult, Not Impossible: Junior Can Win In New York, [The City Paper, Jan. 11].
In it, Mr. Kleinheider generalizes and stereotypes; he wrote, “New Yorkers like to think they’re better than everyone else…” and “…black voters like to vote for black candidates.”
Using those two dubious premises as the basis of his argument, Kleinheider concludes with this, “With the right team and a few well-connected New York benefactors, he could take the New York political world by storm, win the race as an independent and keep an African American in the Senate.”
I do not think so. As a native New Yorker, I know that N.Y. politics are not intuitive — things are seldom as they appear. Empire State politics are a byzantine and convoluted mass of competing special interests.
Has Junior pledged allegiance to AIPAC? If not, his campaign is going nowhere. AIPAC thoroughly approves of Sen. Gillibrand, why change horses needlessly?
Without the support of AIPAC, Senator Chuck Schumer, NYC Mayor Mike Bloomberg and Gov. Paterson, Harold Ford Jr. cannot advance politically in New York. It's just that simple.
Kleinheider wraps up his rather delusional rant with, “It seems crazy, but it just might work.” With all due respect, sir, it doesn’t just seem crazy, it is crazy.

I am a firm believer in "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree" & "blood is thicker than water" and there fore would not vote for jr for dogcatcher. With close history of his family, and not much experience, I think he is reaching for the goldern ring and his ideals are too short,
Good letter loner .
I agree . I don't think junior would stand a chance to win a New York seat .
I hear this Mr. Knight fellow is smart, young, and good-looking. Well, smart.
The race to watch is the one in Mass. If Brown (R) beats Coakley (D), Obama Care is dead. The Republican is running on that platform, "I'll kill National Health Care", as unbelievable a statement that is, he may win. Depends on the weather.
In NY, Gilldabrant leads Ford, Jr. 41% to 17%. Based on NY "doesn't know him".
Guy's been all over tv for 5 years. At 17%, Gandhi couldn't win a post at the Humane Society.
Hey, Loner, get in here and set this NY so-and-so straight...
I agree. Harold, Jr. may need to change his name.
The Fords don't have a good reputation, and rightly so.
Ford has plenty of time to distance himself from his family. He's young and seems to be on the right track. He should wait a while.
Loner!
Get in here and set this letter-writing carpetbagging damnyankee straight.
It all depends on the competition. Carpetbegging Senators are nothing
new to NY, they've had several. Presently the only Ford reputation in
NY is his, but it will take more than the blessings of Rev. Al to get there.
Feeling generous today? Here's a cause that will help folks in our own backyard:

This sounds a bit racist. I'm sure that would never happen in an election (tisk, tisk).
IF Al Sharpton is in on anything, I don't know how anyone can trust him after the rant on Tawana Brawley.
And I don't equate Ford Jr. with his relatives (uncle and aunt); he has never to my knowledge displayed such inappropriate behavior. His run for office should be based on his own Merits? But NY City? New York State? I think the citizens of NY would rather he not lead them. But I could be wrong.
I just read about Jr.'s 10 minute, Bible-quoting, fried chicken-loving, extension cord-beating improv...looks like he's gonna earn that family name, after all.
That family tree has more nuts than a Stuckey's pecan log.
Sid: You're underestimating yourself. You're always wrong.
With a "carpetbagger" governor & mayor, the LEGAL taxpayers are certainly being shafted here!
d'pain:.....a man walks into a Stuckey's to pinch a loaf and ends up buying a pecan loaf. Is he gay?
Gay men are far too tidy to use the crapper at Stuckey's.
Besides, they'd have trouble with the gender designation signs on the bathroom doors..."Truckers" & "Lot Lizards".
Good morning.
It is always good to see a Loner letter on line.
I'm not sure how Ford is doing or will do in NY. I just hear about his run the other day. However I think he has a better run there than he would in TN.
BTW house my count was 305 today.

D7 "always"? "Always".
Speaking of gay men, D7, did you see the headlines "China shuts down Gay talent show". Sorry, I know you thought you'd win.

i was surprised that Harold Ford, Jr. even tried, to be honest.
Great site, Blanket. If I could afford it I would make a bid. lol
nazi, seems to me that Ford intends to stay in N.Y. permanently, and is just getting his name in play for a future run for something.
I did not know that Ford had moved to NY.
I'll let you have my generic voodoo doll for a much smaller donation...
all proceeds will be used to buy beer for the thirsty...namely, me.
That is a good point, slacker.
lol, house!
i'd agree with that, slacker. good point.
House, that's funny. On the playoff day (last sun) I made fajitas and had 1/2 a beer. Don't usually drink, so got a slight buzz on 6 oz. Cheap date!
Signing off; got to go get hair dyed from ugly gray to brown.
Rick Stocksdale just turned down east carolina and is staying; it was just on breaking news.
Heck, I'll even throw in the Zach Wamp attire the voodoo doll is currently wearing.
Sid: There's hope for you. Sarah Palin started out as a sport's broadcaster.
I've got a generic voodoo doll too! Wonder what I could do with it?
I'm like you guys, I didn't know Jr. had moved to NY nor did I know he was running for anything there. I can't say I would blame him for moving away from the family affairs down here though! Nice letter, Loner.
Sidney, on your dye job, make sure the carpet matches the drapes.
lol slacker
lol
ok. it took me a little to long to get that one. you are filthy ;-)
Also infantile, and distasteful.

I blame it on me being old, but I missed something.

Someone tell me what? I'm old.
slacker's comment about carpet and drapes.
Can't blame anyone for leaving Tennessee. So Junior goes there, Loner contributes here. I think NY got screwed, personally.
How 'bout them Leafs? Shhh...not so loud...anyone have ibuprofen??
You all are going to Hell. Can't we at least stick with fart jokes and erectile dysfunction?
You on board, Nemo?
hair of the dog, g.
Thanks
Morning Ya'll - I'll try to keep positive attitude today but feel like sh$t.
Ford is just following in the time honored footsteps of a ex-Arkansas Governor wife's footsteps. NY loves carpetbagger politicians! :)
Capt - I see you are behaving yourself better today - no 4:30 AM post :)
Medical teams pouring in to set up mobile hospitals said they were already overwhelmed by the casualties and warned of the immediate threats of tetanus and gangrene as well as the spread of measles, meningitis and other infections.
No one has begun to estimate the number of injuries from the magnitude 7 earthquake, which destroyed much of the capital Port-au-Prince on January 12. Haitian officials said the death toll was likely to be between 100,000 and 200,000.
Ford's not for me... he's a perfect example of a corporatist Democrat. Which makes me wonder why it is that the right wing isn't salivating over this guy. Hmmmm, I wonder... what could it be about this guy that the right wouldn't like?

Soon as I find a job out of state, all your gonna see of me is tail lights. And I'm gonna take my fancy-shmancy job and all my sales tax money with me.
Different Corporations Brrr - different philosophies for ripping off the citizens.
