Too much to endure

Saturday, Sarah Palin was the keynote speaker at the “Tea Party Convention” held in Nashville. I would first like to state that I am very proud whenever Nashville is selected for any major venue, political or otherwise. But the very fact that Palin was selected as the keynote speaker shows that the Tea Party movement is not in danger of being taken over by the Conservative Republican movement, but that it already has been. Their true colors are being shown right from the beginning.

One of the first things that Sarah Palin did was to mention good southern barbeque and sweet tea. I found that interesting as I was left wondering whether she had actually had any since she and others had lobster at several hundred dollars per plate.

In fact, all of the attendees had to pay over $500 to attend. I seem to recall that several weeks ago a similar Democratic event was held in which both southern barbeque and sweet tea were served which was, incidentally, free of charge. We did not partake of any lobster, but we did have important keynote speakers.

As usual, Palin stated the expected platitudes toward those who serve our country in uniform. While that is always admirable, these conservatives always try to make it seem that only conservative Republican types serve in our military. Let me be clear, there are many liberal Democrats proudly serving their country in our military also. But Conservatives like Palin tend to forget that.

Soon after that she referred to “Alaska” as being a “beacon of hope” for the rest of the world. Well, at least that was her only gaff! But she went on to state that we need more than tough talk from the current administration while ignoring the fact that this administration has literally conducted more missile strikes against the terrorist threat than any administration before has done.

And she invoked John F. Kennedy by stating that it should be recalled that “all of the world’s problems aren’t his [Obama’s] predecessor’s fault.” Of course, she forgets that during the previous administration everything was blamed on the Clinton administration. They can dish it out, but they can’t take it.

She mentioned TARP without recalling that this was a Bush administration “fix” for our economic problems, insinuating that it was all an Obama administration idea. And, of course, she was highly critical of TARP and stated that we are in the worst economic situation ever due to the consequences of Obama administration policies. Never mind Bush administration policies.

She mentioned annoyance with the national debt without acknowledging that it was the Bush administration that took us from a surplus back into greater national debt in the first place.  Republicans never made a single peep concerning the national debt while the Bush administration was in charge, but can’t shut up about it now as they insinuate that the Obama administration has somehow caused it all by itself. There is no thought to how bad this “great recession” might have been if the present administration had not taken measures to reign in the negative effects of the runaway conservative agenda.

Finally, she made reference to “liberal intolerance,” which is an oxymoron if I ever heard one. It is, in fact, conservatives who are intolerant of others, not liberals. And almost in the same breath she insinuated that liberals reject children with special needs, which I found particularly insulting since I happen to have two nephews with special needs, one of whom, I am very proud to say, is a Freemason and a Shriner and has been elected as chaplain for Hendersonville Lodge this year.

If Palin wishes to insinuate that Democrats like myself reject those with special needs then she should come to understand that we accept people no matter who they are and believe in providing them with opportunities as they grow and develop in their lives. We are not solely focused on the yet to be born, but acknowledge and support those already born as well.

In the end, the chants encouraging Palin to run for President of the United States of America were just a bit too much to endure. I implore the American people to thoughtfully consider what it would be like for this nation and their families if she were to become the most powerful person on this planet. Do you really want that? Think about it.

Sid: Richard Nixon lost to JFK in 1962, and you know the rest.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 2/9/10 at 11:53

LOL, Nemo!

By: Loner on 2/9/10 at 11:54

Hold your horses, friends....Captain Nemo says that NY wines are in fact available in TN......hey, Girliegirl, what's up?

By: dargent7 on 2/9/10 at 11:54

Nemo: Sid wants a "wake-up" call so tomorrow, so just nudge her shoulder and have her hit the "Snooze" button, OK?

By: Captain Nemo on 2/9/10 at 11:55

I am not a crook -Richard Nixon

By: Loner on 2/9/10 at 11:56

That was in 1960, D7, not 1962. I'm sure that was a typo on your part.

By: Captain Nemo on 2/9/10 at 11:58

It is amazing to me he had the election wrapped up and his stupid henchman committed a crime, then the cover-up. I voted for him twice.

By: Captain Nemo on 2/9/10 at 12:00

You know what you can do d7! ;-)

By: Loner on 2/9/10 at 12:01

So, what's the deal, are NY wines available in Tennessee, or not? Can anyone confirm Nemo's assertion. I assumed Girliegirl was correct. Now, I'm assuming the position......there goes the mission...blown up, like nuclear fission...(think rap music here).

By: Captain Nemo on 2/9/10 at 12:04

It has been years since I have bough any NY wine In Nashville, so I maybe out of date.

By: Funditto on 2/9/10 at 12:04

Has anyone ever seen snow stay around in Nashville more than a day or so? Then why on earth would we spend millions on snow removal equipment? If we did, I guess D7 would be correct in his assumption that we're a bunch of dumba$$es. Otherwise, we just learn to enjoy it and lay low for a day or so. I don't think that's what makes our kids fat and dumb!

By: Blanketnazi2 on 2/9/10 at 12:05

i'm one of those people that likes to browse through every bottle of wine in the shop even though i have a specific one in mind when i walk through the front door. i haven't seen any NY wines here.

By: dargent7 on 2/9/10 at 12:07

Loner: Actually, I was 4 years old, so just guessed. It was the 1960 election? I knew Nixon lost to Kennedy in a squeeker. Then assassinated Nov. 1963.
Was Nixon VP under Eisenhower? I could Google it but don't really care.
I just wanted to show off to Sid how versatile I am.

Yesterday she said her husband, "could out perform me with both arms and legs tied". And he's paralyzed from the waist down. Harsh!
Sounds like one of my ex-wives.

By: pswindle on 2/9/10 at 12:10

Hell, Bush could not speak with a teleprompter, and without one he was a sight to be seen. I still can't believe how terrible he was. There is nothing to compare him to.

By: dargent7 on 2/9/10 at 12:14

It doesn't make your kids" fat and dumb", but it sure as hell doesn't help.
Teachers cannot make up for 5 days missed last week, and today and who know's how many this week.

By: Captain Nemo on 2/9/10 at 12:14

I got to go. see you later.

By: Loner on 2/9/10 at 12:15

Sid is into BDSM? Too much info, D7. Of course, she likes to share the intimate details...she was once compared with Playboy's Miss Dec. 1966...or so she claims. Of course, we wanna see the spread....or maybe not.... the sell-by date has expired.

Yeah, Nixon was Ike's VP.

Ike was very good as a general, sadly, he was rather crappy as a president, IMO.

By: Loner on 2/9/10 at 12:18

See ya, Cap'n.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 2/9/10 at 12:18

later, Nemo.

By: dargent7 on 2/9/10 at 12:22

Loner: Yeah, I always fancied myself as a Burt Reynolds stand- in for that Cosmo spread. Or Namath shaving his legs.
See Brees in his Dove shower commercial?
Looks just like me.
NOT!

By: Blanketnazi2 on 2/9/10 at 12:23

Brees in a Dover shower commercial? Awesome.....

By: house_of_pain on 2/9/10 at 12:24

Was that a Dove commercial, d7? Those people must be high.
Men are NOT buying "body wash" by Dove. End of story.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 2/9/10 at 12:25

i'll buy some if it keeps that commercial on the air!

By: dargent7 on 2/9/10 at 12:26

Yeah, it ran last night. For a moment there, I thought, "who has the video cam in my shower?".....

By: dargent7 on 2/9/10 at 12:28

House: I beg to differ..it was Dove's new line of Men's Care soaps. I actually bought two bars 3 weeks ago at Publix.
Now, this uppity QB uses the product and steals all the chicks, just when I was getting warmed up....in the shower, you know...just cleaning up.

oops! How could I forget that one? Yeah, you're right.

By: house_of_pain on 2/9/10 at 12:29

Why would we not have NY wines here? I see wines from all over the planet at the likka sto.

By: house_of_pain on 2/9/10 at 12:31

Sorry, d7, we're gonna need to to turn in your Man Card.
Dial for men or Old Spice would have been acceptable.

By: house_of_pain on 2/9/10 at 12:31

s/h/b "you to", not "to to".

i guess Suave should put Peyton in a soap commercial showing that he's all washed up. LOL

By: dargent7 on 2/9/10 at 12:33

Sid: Yes, that election was a milestone because VP's usually win (except for Al Gore) and Kennedy was a Catholic. I remember my parents shaking their heads saying Kennedy wouldn't win, "because he's Catholic".. I said, "did he eat meat on Friday?" True story.

Yeah, Loner TMI. Of course you like it when D7 talks about his TWP:

By: dargent7 on 2/9/10 at 9:58
I really thought that one would go over you girl's head's.
I remember the Ms. asking, "how much are we expecting tonight?"
I said, "One to two inches". Problem was we were in Hawai'i and it wasn't even raining.

Paul, TMI. But you hit the nail on the "head" for Loner; Loner loved it.

At least you're honest about it. I try to forget.

By: dargent7 on 2/9/10 at 12:37

House: What, no Brute', by Faberge"? Stuff smelled like lighter fluid mixed with anti-freeze. But, since Joe Namath wore it, it was ok with me. I always like "High Karate", especially the commercials.

Men are NOT buying "body wash" by Dove. End of story.

House, there are the real men whose wives buy it for them and then there are the men's men who buy it for themselves.

So some "men" are buying body wash. It's a big industry - the personal care products for men.

By: dargent7 on 2/9/10 at 12:40

Nazix2: My guess is, these advertisers pre-record dual commercials, one with Brees, and one with Peyton. Or, consult with "eastnashville" who's on his neighbor's roof with an aluminum hat and rabbit ears.

By: dargent7 on 2/9/10 at 12:43

OK, I know, "LMAO", STFU", IMHO", BTW", S/H/B', but what does "TMI" mean?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 2/9/10 at 12:44

most likely, dargent. you know why Brute smells like lighter fluid with anti-freeze? to keep the "flamers" from wearing it - talk about spontaneous combustion!

By: Funditto on 2/9/10 at 12:45

sid, can you provide the names of these so-called men?
We have Man Laws, and I'm required to report these pretenders.

Peyton looks like an oversized Downs Syndrome kid.

Not that there's anything wrong with that......

I think Satan Manning is actually Bredesen's offspring.

By: dargent7 on 2/9/10 at 1:06

Yes, Peyton is quite ugly. But, at 6'6" and 240#, can throw a mean ball. He also can multi-task when reading defense. Good luck with Vince Young on that one this year.

By: gdiafante on 2/9/10 at 1:10

Lol, darge...

VY would be lucky if he was able to put his shoes on and tie them correctly.

Blanket, I have to disagree with you on this. And why is it so bad to have Downs Syndrome and be alive? There are people who are so "beautiful" who are actually ugly spirits.

Peyton is a successful young man. I mean, how many of the guys on this board made it to the Super Bowl? And didn't he win a super bowl in the past?

So be nice . . . . . .

By: gdiafante on 2/9/10 at 1:18

Lighten up Sid.

Actually, when I think of Sid I think of Archie Manning in drag.
