Battered woman's life should be spared
Gov. Phil Bredesen holds the life of a battered woman in his hands. The state will execute Gaile K. Owens, 57, by lethal injection unless the governor commutes her sentence to life in prison.
Gaile is a victim of severe domestic violence who was arrested in 1985, and later convicted, for hiring a man to kill her abusive husband, Ronald Owens. After exhausting her appeals, her lawyer and two public defenders have filed a formal plea asking Gov. Bredesen to commute her sentence to life in prison. Though she was diagnosed with battered woman’s syndrome, Gaile’s jurors never heard about the physical, emotional and sexual abuse she endured from her husband.
Among nine comparable cases over the past 25 years: two are serving life sentences, six have received probation or early parole, while only Gaile is facing death. Unless Gov. Bredesen commutes Gaile’s sentence, she will be the first woman executed by the state since 1820.
Not only were there very few, if any, resources for a battered woman in the early 1980s, but a woman who has suffered severe and consistent abuse is not in a competent state of mind. Gov. Bredesen should commute Gaile Owens’ sentence to life in prison, and save the state from executing a battered woman.

I think you maybe right about that bfra.
Nemo - Now don't get jealous!
Those "hooker" shoes she had sitting on the edge of the witness stand can be piciked up at just about any thrift store for about $1.
Jealous about what, bfra?
Nemo - Goes back a while!
I did not get in until after midnight, so I am not tracking very well today, bfar.
slacker, the correct phrase would be "PLEASE fix my eggs bitch and don't make them runny." LOL
I learned this while taking a self defense course(many, many years ago):
"If someone threatens you with serious bodily harm, you must ensure that their injuries are so severe that you need not ever fear retaliation."
I never thought about applying that to broads, though...
I served as forman on a criminal court jury on a rape case . After all the testimoney and evidence was in we convicted the man of aggravated assault because , believe it or not , it carried a stffer penalty than simple rape. and we felt that the sentence for that offense was not strong enough . He was sent to prison for 10 years.
i bet he only served 2-3 years at most, dooley. i also wonder if he went back and retaliated on the person who pressed charges.
house - I was lucky in that aspect 1 nt. at the Starlite many years ago. 3 guys jumped the guy I was with. 2 was holding him, the other coming at him with a broken beer bottle. Me being young & dumb stepped in front. The 2 let go and grabbed their friend, they wouldn't let him hurt a woman.
Normal conversation between a man and a woman

House, I was attacked by another woman at a homeowner's meeting; she grabbed my arm, twisted it, pinched me and tried to force me to give her some papers I had in my hand. I refused. The other association members got her to stop. I did not hit back. I calmly went outside; called metro and filed assault charges against her with a 4 month restraining order.
Why didn't I hit back? I didn't want the judge to dismiss it as a bar fight or cat fight. I hate the broad. But at least I didn't get the police record - she did. That really fried here.
I just counseled a young woman yesterday (friend with abusive spouse) who said her dad and 3 brothers beat up her boyfriend years ago. Then she married him anyway. If your brother and dad can smell a rat, don't marry him, ladies. The guy has been worse, worser and worsist (if those are words) since the marriage.
Nemo - Looks like Jane Russell in that photo.

This reminds me of the news just this morning about the Chelsea King murder. Here's the link:

These sickos don't serve enough time and they're back out on the streets doing the same things over and over again. It almost seems like the DA's are in competition with each other to see who can get their clients off with the lightest sentences.
It does bfra.
House, I hope that learnt you to stay away from the Starlight! LOL
(inside joke, bfra, not to belittle your ordeal there)
Nemo - Didn't see any caption - maybe that was from the movie "Outlaw"
I must not have been there that particular night, MamaG.
Otherwise, she would have left with me...
MamaG - We went on inside and 2 of the guys came in, after putting their "drunk" friend in the car, to apologize. Turned out they were really nice and stayed for a while.
Mama said "It almost seems like the DA's are in competition with each other to see who can get their clients off with the lightest sentences."
Mama, is it the DA (District Attorney) or the PD's office - Public Defender's?
I know some real tender hearted, liberal people at PD's office who think that these creeps can be "fixed".
I feel so sorry for that young woman's family. She was just jogging; just living life and he took that away from her. I hope he fries!

I don't think it was from any movie, bfra. I'm not sure what it is from. It looks like something from an old detective paper back novel, my father use to hide from me.
;- )
whichever it is, sidney. i don't hope he fries because that is the whole point of what we began talking about today--abolish capital punishment. i hope he rots in a california prison.
yes, i've heard that about you from my seester, house! i have no doubts about it!!
bfra, crazy what alcohol will do!
I do have some flexibility toward the punishment of a sexual predator, but I would rather take care of it personally.
sid, who do you know in the PD's office? just out of curiosity?

MamaG, yes I know "what" the subject is today, however, when this man has robbed a young girl of her life and her parents have to suffer forever over losing her, I for one, do not think he deserves to live. But then again, is confinement for life really living?
Well, the cost is great to society to lose her and even more costs in $ to keep or kill him. Either way society loses all the way around.
so you know "a person" not "folks."

No, Mama - i can't say that i have!!!!
IMO people who work at the PD's office aren't bright enough to get hired at a law firm or the D.A.'s office and they do anything they can to win their cases on technicalities and try to create a list of "wins" so as to get a real attorney's job, not even pausing for a moment to think how it will affect the victims' lives and whether or not it puts people in harms way. therefore, they are among the ultimate scum of the earth.
That was incredulity; I forgot to inflect, blanket! LOL
Vous l'avez cloué, couverture ... elle ne connaît personne là, je suis sûr!

In my defense, while I was posting I've also been on the phone with DELL in INDIA since 10:59 a.m. ON hold; off hold; on hold; off hold. So I'm surprised that I've even posted half coherently!
