Letters to the Editor

Editor,

Excellent article in The City Paper, "Bar the Door." If accurate, almost unbelievable, to say the least.

Bar and nightclub "security" and bouncers randomly picking people up and physically throwing them out of the clubs seems exaggerated.

Then attacking them on the street without cause or provocation? Since I'm usually in bed by 10:00pm I haven't witnessed any trouble, especially at 2 a.m. "Last call" at 2 a.m. was always a rough time if my memory serves me correctly. Everyone is drunk and tired and become belligerent when the bar closes.

Unless these bars and clubs in question hire a bunch of apes from the zoo, they'll be sued blind and loose their liquor licenses.

Then passing a brilliant, comprehensive strategy, "Guns-N-Bars" legislation will only fuel the fire. If Nashville wishes to capture more of the tourist dollar and convention business, they'd better think long and hard of allowing loaded weapons into any place that serves alcohol.

Or maybe hubby Paul does drag in secret LOL
But of course he's not gay, that's why he paid half a million to keep his boyfriend quiet. :)

bfra, you asked the other day about usury laws.... the fact is that they no longer exist. The only exception as I understand it is credit unions. They are limited (again as I understand it) to a 15% maximum on any loans that they issue, including credit union backed credit cards.

True, but I wouldn't underestimate the dissent of the people there. Unlike a lot of other countries in the region, Iran has a very young and forward thinking population. We would do well to find ways of supporting the underlying dissent so that any revolution comes from within.

I think the worst hair is Paul Crouch's wife. It's a cotton candy, purple shade of platinum, beehive.
Who in the hell gives money to these people?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 4/27/10 at 11:08

i agree, brrrk. that would be our best plan of action.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 4/27/10 at 11:09

dargent, you still haven't confessed as to whether or not you're missing a wig....

By: Captain Nemo on 4/27/10 at 11:15

I agree with brrrk. It is only a matter of time before the people of Iran push back. Not to mention that Egypt and Saudi Arabia would not want Persian with that kind of power.

There had been a deterrent to Iran, but that was lost when Bush invaded Iraq.

By: dargent7 on 4/27/10 at 11:16

brrrrk: How about this novel idea:
Let's keep the fu**k out of any "forward thinking", "developing", countries, Democratic or not?
Let's not impose our "wonderful" system of government and religion on any living, breathing thing?
Let's mind own own fu**king business for once, and clean up our own act, first and foremost?
Our own country is financially bankrupt, morally bankrupt, and on the edge of epic decline and catastrophe, all sectors, all across the board.
We shouldn't be telling anyone about anything.
Let's keep our big mouth's shut.

PRIME DIRECTIVE

As the right of each sentient species to live in accordance with its normal cultural evolution is considered sacred, no Star Fleet personnel may interfere with the healthy development of alien life and culture. Such interference includes the introduction of superior knowledge, strength, or technology to a world whose society is incapable of handling such advantages wisely. Star Fleet personnel may not violate this Prime Directive, even to save their lives and/or their ship unless they are acting to right an earlier violation or an accidental contamination of said culture. This directive takes precedence over any and all other considerations, and carries with it the highest moral obligation.

Believe me when I say that agree with you. I don't believe that we should impose our views on anyone. But at the same time, I don't see anything wrong with passively supporting democratic growth in any country. We have to learn that you can't spread democracy at the point of a gun.

By: dargent7 on 4/27/10 at 11:46

What's happened to the "Women's Movement"?
Burning bras, voting, and getting equal pay was one thing, but shooting husbands' in the back and hiring hit men is quite another.

Now using cell phone charger cords to strangle the s.o.b.?

It's getting to the point where a man cannot be a pig, burp and fart sitting on the couch in his girlfriend's underware and feel comfortable being misogynist any longer.

brrrk: We've lost that point.
We've crossed over the point of no return.
Look at the rise of Sarah Palin, Michel Bachmann, Glen Beck, Sean Hannity....
They preach anarchy, upheavel of the democratic vote, and America is eating it up.
They are quite pretty, but they dispense hatred of a duly elected President.
It's unbelievable.

Actually, the Iran crackdown is a good thing. It shows that the govt is running scared. There is a lot more internal dissension that our media does not report on.

We should drop the price of oil as low as possible and put them in an even worse financial crisis than they are already in. It would be politically popular (low gas prices!) but of course the plutocrats might lose some pocket change so it will never happen.
One of the triggers to the Revolution in 1979(aside from that whole repressive secret police thingy) was that the govt had a severe and sustained cash flow shortage.

I suppose Prince Reza would not be the person to lead a revolt even though he seems a pretty sensible fellow. http://www.rezapahlavi.org/

BN, I read an article a few months ago written by a theologian who estimated that the number of deaths directly attributed to God in the Bible was in the hundreds of thousands. I can't remember the specific number off hand, but it was enough for me to go, "Holy Crap Batman!".

brrrrk - Wouldn't Check into Cash come under the same regulations as credit unions? As I am not familiar with the operations of either, just asking.

Then, there is that "Mo Money", I see advertised continuously on TV. I wouldn't deal with that co., just because of the stupid acting people in their ads.
