My vote is to make the new ballpark readily accessible to tourists so that if they want to walk to a game, last minute, they can.

The thermal site might not be the best option, but putting [the stadium] near the MCC and honkytonks seems to make the most sense. And for families, they can walk down to the riverfront after that is developed, as well.

They should of built LP Field compatible for both sports. Too bad Tennessee didn't have a pro baseball team 10 years ago.
When I grew up in Detroit, Tiger Stadium us used for both the Tigers and the Lions.
If memory serves me, opening day was April 10th and the play-offs were in Sept. It worked out for football season to start in Oct.
Joe Lois Arena, a half mile away, was built for the Red Wings.
That said, Bridgestone Arene is only 1.5 mile from LP Field but people cannot and won't walk a mile.

Paul, Bud Adams would not like that idea unless he owns the baseball team. Remember the trouble in Houston and why he left.

A multiple use stadium...like most real cities have? Never happen here, sadly, but what a great idea. I went to Louisville a few years ago, and was blown away by their riverfront and minor league baseball stadium. There was a huge park fronting the river with art installations throughout. Lots of people walking through, even after the baseball game ended. No fear. We could have that...but not in Sulphur Dell. The old stadium didn't draw people because of where it is. It would be stupid to put the stadium where there is no supporting infrastructure (bars and restaurants), which abound downtown.

Seriously, nashwatcher? Tourists will flock to see a minor-league team that even most locals avoid like the plague? Naaah.

Nashville needs a new theme park, to fill the role the old Opryland did before the mental midgets at Gaylord sold it off to build a stupid mall that's good only for attracting rats right now. Tourists drove in to Nashville to have fun with their families, and spend money. Do you have any idea well Dollywood is doing in Pigeon Forge? Gangbusters, baby!

(Oh. Heh. Dolly Parton tweeted the other day "I have little feet because nothing grows in the shade." )

Baseball would just screw up the playing surface at L.P., no thanks.

Memphis has a great downtown ballpark, although I have no
idea on what average attendance might be nor what
percentage might be tourist. Of course, the biggest thing
is it's a totally private enterprise owned operation. Most
idea location in Nasville would be the removal of the
scrap metal yard by the river and located there in my
as always "most humble" opinion!

All I see is more debt and tax burden for Nashville citizens in the future.

tree7-

I got a glimpse of it not long ago when I drove by. Someday I plan to get a closer look.

I'm thinkin' the thermal site is perfect for the ''Bum Fight'' arena.
Just a short walk from their training facility, the public library.

By: dargent7 on 3/1/11 at 8:58

Look at the stadium Jerry Jones built in Arlington, Texas. Seats 105,000.
(of course, not everyone who buys a seat, gets a seat).
What's LP Field hold, 68,000?
The thing sits dormant from Jan. to Sept. Every year.
That's a complete waste of prime real estate.
Think Nashville will ever get a Super Bowl game designation?
Play some baseball in the thing.

By: numenlumen on 3/1/11 at 9:58

Good point, dargent. However I think something with a little more pizazz than aenemic old baseball would be in order. How about gladiatorial games to honor Nashville's favorite (adopted?) son, the pugilistic Al Gore? Or perhaps bull fights to draw in the increasing Mexican population?

By the way, I see you seem to be gracing The Tennessean with your posts again under your alternate screen name. Although I often don't agree with it, your stuff is generally worth reading, except when you're violating their snooty, arbitrarily-invoked terms of service. Too bad they destroyed the neat little community posting in their opinions section. Bastards.

I vote for slacker's Bum-Fight Gladiators following Lingerie Football matches.

By: Captain Nemo on 3/1/11 at 1:15

They could put the race track there and build another bridge across the river to make it a bigger track. lol

By: Funditto on 3/1/11 at 8:46

Whoa. I agree with Serr.
