Air travel will continue to become more costly as fuel prices rise. More enlightened Tennesseans are asking for options such as light rail. Actually Nashville is being recognized nationally for our lack of transit options and clogged highways. This does not bode well for attracting tourists or for attracting business to our city. Let us get in line with the 21st century as President Obama is trying to do with his push for rail systems. Wisconsin and Florida declined funding for high-speed rail for political reasons. Put Rick Scott and Scott Walker on a bridge to nowhere and leave them there.

We used to have "street cars" and trains on "railroads" in the "old times". Then they started building airplanes and more automobiles... all made in the USA.
People began driving and flying for "normal" transportation. Now, with the "excessive" cost of gas it is time to go back to the "rails"?
Then, what will we do when we spend billions of bucks to build the new transportation system? Gas gets cheaper and cars get better MPG. Do we stay with rail transportation?
It seems history keeps repeating itself. We'll get back in cars, tear those rails up and sell the scrap metal.
Of course, we gave a lot of good people (men) work for several years.
We covered this yesterday, but Nashville isn't "know Nationally" for it's lack of mass transit and clogged highways.
It's known for country music, country stars, honky-tonks, and a pis** poor football team.
There will be no meaningful infrastructure changes for some time. First, we have to get some revenue coming in...second, the tea baggers and other anti-tax nuts will throw temper tantrums regarding any expenditure.

Let's just put partisanism aside for a second -- has anyone on this page driven on I-24 during rush hour? For real!! Gas prices high or low, it shouldn't take 45 minutes to get to Antioch! We desperately need a commuter rail from Murphreesboro to downtown, with stops at LaVergne, Smyrna and Antioch. We can put parking garages by the stops (no one is talking about the end of the automobile here), but at least thousands of people won't be wasting two hours of their lives every day in stop-and-go traffic on the interstate!
Anyone who would oppose this idea is clearly blind to the reality of Nashville traffic.
