The 300-plus Metro teachers being laid off will be glad to hear that [superintendent Jesse Register] will continue to make his $250,000 a year though. Maybe he can hire a few teachers back with his salary.

i know bud and yogi aren't familiar with many of the words in the dictionary, so to be helpful...

sanctimonious - Feigning piety or righteousness; affecting piety or making a display of holiness; trying to appear full of holiness or goodness

By: Blanketnazi2 on 5/26/11 at 12:05

example: i'll pray for you.

Did you spell your wording correctly, Blanketnazi2? Did you mean pray for, or prey on?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 5/26/11 at 12:27

yogi, i can help you with definitions but i really don't have the time and energy to help with your lack of reading comprehension. i can only do what i can do.

You'd think that yogi would at least get this one, wouldn't you.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 5/26/11 at 12:35

i'm not totally confident of that, brrrk. i admire your sense of hope.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 5/26/11 at 12:35

either way, i'm sure that's your fault too, brrrrk.

Which apparently ain't much, Blanketnazi2. If you could accomplish much, how could you spend so much time on this site?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 5/26/11 at 1:16

speak for yourself, yogi - lol!

By: yogiman on 5/26/11 at 1:23

Blanketnazi2,

I understand what you posted in your 1:32 remark; "i can only do what i can do." I interpreted you to mean; 'I can only do what I can do'.

We must have had different English teachers in our grammar schools. Mine taught me and my classmates when we should use capital letters.

I reckon english is differunt that it was whin i wuz a boy.

it's a generational thing that comes from texting, yogi. you really had to reach for that one, didn't you? geez, what a whiney little baby you are!

By: Blanketnazi2 on 5/26/11 at 1:26

i'm sure there's a lot of things that are different from when you were a boy and that's a darn good thing. too bad you can't keep up.

By: yogiman on 5/26/11 at 1:27

OK. Why do you capitalized you name if you are living in a "new" generation?

Works great in the short form as well.

We've all (well most of us to some degree) heard of Ayn Rand... but have you ever heard of William Edward Hickman?

"Hickman kidnapped Marion Parker on December 15, 1927, by appearing at her junior high school, claiming that her father, Perry Parker, was ill, and that he wanted to see his daughter. He did not realize there were twin Parker daughters, and did not know either child's name, but the school administrator turned one of the girls over to him. The next day Hickman sent the first of three ransom notes to the Parker home, demanding $1,500 in $20 gold certificates.

On December 19, Parker delivered the ransom in Los Angeles but in return Hickman delivered the girl's dismembered body. Her arms and legs had been severed and her internal organs removed. A towel stuffed into her body to absorb blood led police to Hickman's apartment building, but he managed to escape. A $100,000 reward was offered for his capture, and for nearly a week Hickman eluded capture."

So what does this have to do with Rand you ask....

"Rand wanted the hero of her novel to be 'A Hickman with a purpose. And without the degeneracy. It is more exact to say that the model is not Hickman, but what Hickman suggested to me.' " Rand several times referred to Hickman as a "Superman".

WHAT!!!!!

By: Blanketnazi2 on 5/26/11 at 1:59

Rand was off her rocker.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 5/26/11 at 2:05

revo, i believe that works even better in the short form. thanks!

;~)

By: brrrrk on 5/26/11 at 2:06

Rand made no bones about the fact that, in her world, sociopaths were heroes.
