As other states have demonstrated, having wine in grocery stores increases sales tax revenues and enhances employment without the doomsday predictions coming to pass by those opposed to responsible enjoyment of wines and other alcoholic beverages. This odd pairing of morality-dictating churches and the liquor store lobby is about one of two things — either controlling people's lifestyles or stifling competition to fatten profits for a few businesses (instead of allowing many businesses to compete for profits).

The right wing fringe cries out for democracy, but it has to be a democracy that fits into there view of how the world should be. Nothing else will do.

Nemo - did you get me mixed up on the Mubarak post?

By: Captain Nemo on 2/3/11 at 5:16

:-} opps.

Yes I did bfra. It should have been for brrrk.

Maybe if I waited a little longer I could have fabricated a tall tail and blamed it all on you. Wink wink.

That peace deal is a two way street, between Israel and Egypt.

If they need a 3rd party to be involved then I suggest Switzerland. That is who we have used in dealing with Iran for the last 30 years.

Our presidents need to stop acting like they are the official mediator. One hope I have is that since Obama already got a peace prize, then he won't spend 25% of his time concentrating on how he can use our resources to get one!

Amy, Reverend Huckabee is in Israel, right now. It's his 13th visit to the Jewish State and he has eagerly inserted his cranium as far up the collective rectum of the Israeli body politik as one possibly can

Wearing his Jewish-wannabe yarmulke, the American preacher-politician has made it abundantly clear that he would make an excellent vassal for the Israeli Prime Minister. The Israelis love the Huck.....what a schmuck!

Here is a link to an article, about Rev. Huck, one that might turn your stomach, so read it with a barf bag handy:

Turns out that the reason some on the right (and Fox) are defending the Mubarak government is because of the fact that the Chamber of Commerce has an Egyptian office which has gotten human rights exemptions that allows manufacturers to do things to their workers that would otherwise be illegal. As always, with the right it's all about the money.

What we are seeing in Egypt today is the end of the last of Colonial rule. Egypt needs to find it’s on way in the world and if they want our help then they must be asked for by the Egyptian people and not by someone from the west.

While I agree in principle, the problem with your assumption is that Egyptian people will get a chance to ask. I'm afraid that the recent crackdown and attacks on journalists is a way of covering up what is about the happen. When the journalists are gone, there will no longer be any witnesses to what potential violence that may be perpetrated against the Egyptian people.

By: Loner on 2/3/11 at 5:52

No. Nemo, Israel is the last bastion of colonial rule, not Egypt.

The apartheid, race-based enclave was designed by a manifesto-writing Austrian in the 19th century - Theodor Herzl, the Father of Zionism.

Der Judenstaat, Th. Herzl's racist screed, like Mein Kampf and Das Kapital, has caused unimaginable human suffering.

But here's the rub: unlike Das Kapital and Mein Kampf, Der Judenstaat is considered, by friends of Israel, to be a positive contribution to humanity....those who disagree are labeled "anti-Semitic". Of course, millions of decent people disagree.

That maybe true brrrk, but what can we do without making matters worst? Please no more troops. Not a third war. All we can do now is hope they will not self destruct and take any hope of a better future for that part of the world with them.

The old polices have not work before and I don’t think they will now.

By: Loner on 2/3/11 at 5:58

BTW, Captain, the weather here is not too bad; it was sunny today. I was away from the board all day long.

By: Captain Nemo on 2/3/11 at 6:02

Loner-

Israel has blown its chance to make a better world for it’s self. If it does not make peace with its Palestine neighbors soon, it will be destroyed or worse. It will live long enough send the rest of the world back into a new dark age. Egypt, Israel and most of the Middle East today is what England screwed up. Hopefully this will be the last of colonial rule.

By: Captain Nemo on 2/3/11 at 6:04

That is good to know Loner, because they were showing ice headed toward you.

By: Captain Nemo on 2/3/11 at 6:07

B/T/W Loner, your friend Cradock’s wants to run for Mayor. Will you come and campaign against him. lol

By: Loner on 2/3/11 at 6:11

If Israel is threatened with annihilation, then the Samson Option kicks in. Seymour Hirsch revealed the plan years ago....Israel's nuclear arsenal is poised to destroy all the major capitals of Europe and beyond, Who know what WMD they already have stashed in the USA...they'll take the whole effin' world with them this time around. The Israelis suffer from mass PTSD....they don't think like the rest of humanity....they are arrogant, unbalanced and extremely dangerous.

By: Captain Nemo on 2/3/11 at 6:15

That would go beyond the dark Ages. That would send us back to the Stone Age. That is worse.

By: Loner on 2/3/11 at 6:19

Cradock killed the Evergreens, right? Or was that Crafton?

By: Captain Nemo on 2/3/11 at 6:20

It was Craddock. Crafton went along.

By: Captain Nemo on 2/3/11 at 6:23

NCP ran a story on it today.

By: Loner on 2/3/11 at 6:25

Cradock (Craddock?) was the bad guy? Crafton went along with what? Please refresh my memory. I know that the developers, Mr. West and Craddock or Crafton (?) appeared to operate as a unit. They built a Home Depot on that historic site, right?

Hmm, how about this, BS!

By: Captain Nemo on 2/3/11 at 6:31

You got it. Crafton voted to let Sonny West slid or something to that order. I will have to refresh my memory about it later.

But the bottom line is these two will Bonnerize Nashville once more.

BTW Crafton brought up English only.

Good night.

By: Loner on 2/3/11 at 6:36

Hey, Revo...good to see you back here.

Don't blame old Loner, I'm just telling you what's been out there for decades. When the Israelis cry, "NEVER AGAIN", they really mean that; they will not go quietly into that good night. Who can blame them? Traumatized by the Holocaust and now hopped-up on Judaic fundamentalism, Herzl's utopia is actually a police-state, with universal military conscription, eternal wars and a huge nuclear arsenal.

Bibi Netanyahu is like Cornholio....ARE YOU THREATENING ME!!??

By: bfra on 2/3/11 at 9:01

Loner - The actual killer of Evergreen was Sonny West, overstepping his authority.

By: Funditto on 2/4/11 at 9:10

Crafton is a buffoon and will be a huge embarrassment to Nashville. I don't know much about Craddock but the name alone spells - red-neck.

By: bfra on 2/4/11 at 10:44

I'm glad I am above judging a person by their name! I know lots of people that have, what I consider, unusual names, but a name does not make the person.

By: yogiman on 2/5/11 at 8:16

I agree, bfra, a person's name does not make the person. Only the person makes themselves, and it is interesting as to the persons on this website.

What are they like in real life? Are they so mentally superior than the others? So many of them think so.

Just wondering, am I as stupid as the majority seem to think I am? My argument would be; my life's experiences by age would give me more knowledge about many aspects of life than their short lived time on this earth.

Moved here 7 years ago from the 'north' and were very surprised by the law prohibiting alcoholic beverages from being sold in grocery stores. It is a definite inconvenience to consumers, an archaic attempt to control citizens and prices and totally unnecessary in current times. There will always be people who misuse alcohol, and this law has done nothing to stem the tide of alcohol-related deaths and violence. Other readers are absolutely correct: To find the reason this law is still in existence, follow the money!

By: yogiman on 2/5/11 at 2:22

When you moved here, kmooremocs, you entered the "Bible Belt". There are many 'drunks' in church every Sunday but they don't want to be seen buying it.

Much of our problems of today boils down to government control.

I have said for several years now we were entering a corner into a nation of socialism and not too far down the road from communism. I believe we have reached the corner now. Congress has decided they don't have to answer to the citizens they are supposed to be representing. The can set their own pay schedule, their own health care benefits and their own retirement plan. My question: What makes them so damn special?

When Obama's legality was questioned, Lamar Alexander stated he had been investigated and found to be a natural born citizen and, therefore, eligible for the office of President. But he could not give me an answer the the question as to where they got that information. Simply put; there ain't none.
