From Gov. Phil Bredesen's eighth and final State of the State speech [Feb. 1, 2010]:
This is likely my final time to address you as Governor. We still have a lot of work to do, and it’s far too early for farewell remarks.
I do want to say, however, a most sincere thank you for the way you have treated me and worked with me and my administration these past years. I have never had a job I enjoyed as much or gave me as much satisfaction as serving as Governor. It has been a humbling experience.
To those of you who have helped me, my sincere thanks. For those of you who have not, all is forgiven now! I know how much so many of you care for our state and its people, and it has been an honor to work with you on their behalf. Thank you and Godspeed.

Good afternoon everyone. Hope you all have been enjoying yourselves over the last few days!
Re Alabama selling beer/liquor, they may sell both in the same store but last time I tried, you couldn't buy on Sunday's at all. Same for Indiana.
hey, Mama! what's shakin'!
8~)
Hi mama - tried your recipe - loved it - thanks! :)
wow, this is scary!
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2010/2/2/832988/-The-2010-Comprehensive-Daily-Kos-Research-2000-Poll-of-Self-Identified-Republicans
MamaG, you must have a really shi**y fake ID...
Over a third of Republicans believe the birth control pill is abortion, which explains why nearly a third of them want contraceptive use outlawed. This is so wingnutty, it's hardly believable. But it's true, just a bare majority oppose outlawing contraceptives.
What we didn't ask was whether the 76 percent who consider abortion to be murder would advocate executions for women who have them. Since 91 percent of respondents support the death penalty.
Two-thirds of Republicans assume anyone that is not a Christian is going to hell. It certainly makes it easier for them to dehumanize their enemies, either real or perceived.
careful blanket - kos has been caught at least twice reporting bogus survey results :(
Bye all - will be gone for a while :(
later, Dusty.
Glad you liked it Dusty!
Blanket, nuttin' much going on around here--been off work since last Thursday and enjoyed that! Never even touched a computer until today! Of any regrets I may have in my life so far, I've never regretted missing a day at work! LOL
House, I'm afraid I don't understand what you mean...please 'splain.

Sid - it's no wine - they have beer :)"
Oh why'd you go and tell her? You spoiled my mental picture of Sid going in Kroger's and complaining that they have no beer :-)
Yeah, DustyU, I knew that; just forgot; only bought beer 1 time in 09 from Harris Teeter. Don't drink much, but love Bosco's for their little dollar shots of beer from time to time.
Regarding birth control; we need more of it so stupid people will quit reproducing as in "LaVergne Woman left 3 babies in car so she could sleep off her drunken night in a warm bed in West End". I applaud those cops for catching her and saving her children."
Now tie her tubes or give her mandatory birth control pills. Sorry for being so mean, but her babies deserve better.
I was insinuating the reason you were unable to obtain alcohol in other states was that your fake ID was of poor quality.
Blanket, I don't know...I heard of a new place coming soon called Holland & (something) but I'm not sure if it's supposed to be a restaurant. It is at the corner of W. Eastland Ave. (or Cleveland St.) and McFerrin. I will definitely keep you posted on anything new that I hear about! And yes, let me know about Fiddlecakes! Sounds intriguing!
they have a website, Mama. www.fiddlecakes.com i love carrot cake!
mandatory sterilization? hey, Hitler tried that!
Mama, have you ever taken a Zumba class? i just started. talk about a workout!
Oh, I'm a little slow today, House!
Blanket, thanks for the website info--I'll check into that as I too love carrot cake! Zumba class-no, not yet. I'm still trying to get the hang of Wii!
Some parents need mandatory sterilization--even as far back as 62 or 63 years ago--LOL
I only meant in cases where those awesome mommies leave their helpless children in freezing back seats of cars in below freezing weather. Oh, and she was also convicted earlier of some other type of child abuse. Hmmm. Guess we should reward her for her actions. they are so noble.
lol, Mama!
What is zumba? Do rookies do it?
Zumba, shmumba...try Tantric gardening.

House - you sly dog you :)
Ok here's a perfect example of why our "health care system" is totally screwed...
About two months ago a friend of ours (my wife and I) had a bit of an accident. She was working late one cold miserable night. When she was about to leave it started to rain cats and dogs... but having to get home, she pulled her rain coat around her and put her hood up and made a dash for her car. The next thing she remembers was waking up 40 minutes later in the parking lot, soaking wet, cold, and in extreme pain. What happened...
Well, one of the obstacles between herself and her car was a pickup truck that she had to go around the back of. What she didn't realize was that the pickup truck had a hitch deer carrier attached to the back of it...
http://www.discountramps.com/hitch-mounted-cargo-carrier.htm
So, in a full run she gets nailed in the shins by the carrier on the truck(remember, this is in the dark in driving rain). She ends up falling on top and over the carrier... as a result, she ends up with extremely battered shins, and a left arm broken in three places, and as I said, was unconscious for over a half hour. She honestly thought she had been assaulted. Finally she finds her pocket book, locates her cell phone and calls someone inside the plant. Once she's located, they took her inside and called 911 and they took her to the hospital.
Now here's the down side.... her company provided insurance is refusing to pay any of her bills because it happened on company property, the companies insurance won't pay because she was no longer on company time, and conveniently enough the carrier on the truck was gone the next day so the truck owners insurance company denies any responsibility. Welcome to America.....
Yeah, Sid, "Let's tie all their tubes". Let's all of us vote for Sarah Palin and that guy you get a hard-on over, Scott Brown, in 2012.
Palin will preach "abstience" only, maybe the "rhythmn method" if you're Catholic.
Otherwise, "Just Say, No!" will be her intellectual level. That's why you're drawn to her.
brrrrk, that sucks! your poor friend!
Funditto, i bet the rookie would look good doing Zumba!
at least better than sid doing tantric gardening 8~P
I was behind a pick up yesterday that had a Jesus Saves bumper sticker and a 12" toy deer "sitting" on the trailer hitch. It's legs were animated and flailed around when they were stopped. It was quite strange. Will someone explain this?
Fun, have you read "Deer Hunting with Jesus" by Joe Bageant? that might answer it.
Maybe they couldn't find a "Jesus Hunts" bumper sticker.

Oh, but there's more.... the husband of this couple recently noticed that he was having problems hearing. He finally went to a hearing specialist to have his ears tested... turns out that he did have significant hearing loss so the doctor prescribed hearing aids. Guess what? His insurance company refused to pay because, "as a diesel mechanic, he should have known that being around loud motors would cause hearing loss and he did nothing to protect his hearing".... how many mechanics do any of you know who wear hearing protection to work on engines? Especially when listening to an engine is part of the skill of being a mechanic. That's another 5 grand out the window....
what a crock, brrrk. that's awful.
blanket, I haven't but will!
it's a really good read, Funditto.
I've never seen a policy that covers hearing aids, no matter the cause of hearing loss.
My wife needs them, too.

Could be, I've never had to deal with it.... but that doesn't make it right.
are you sure she doesn't have selective hearing, house? lol! i know my dogs do!
sid - why I speak out >>>
They came for the Communists, and I didn't object - For I wasn't a Communist;
They came for the Socialists, and I didn't object - For I wasn't a Socialist;
They came for the labor leaders, and I didn't object - For I wasn't a labor leader;
They came for the Jews, and I didn't object - For I wasn't a Jew;
Then they came for me - And there was no one left to object.

very good quote, Dusty!
Blanket - yeah took me a while to find it - wasn't in my quotes site - to go to a holocaust site :(

Yeah, Sid, "Let's tie all their tubes".
Read the article I was talking about. NOT all women; just women who "CARE" so much like 35-year old Laquita Smith. Maybe you'd like to be another one of her BABY DADDIES cause she's some an exemplary mommie! She does not deserve children. GUESS you missed this critical story.
Metro Officers Find Three Children Alone In Cold Car
Posted: Jan 29, 2010 4:36 PM CST
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Metro Police officers in the West Precinct found three shivering children all by themselves inside an SUV around 3 a.m. Friday. Police said it was 28 degrees, and the car's engine was not warm. The children, ages 8 years old, 5 years old and 22 months, were parked outside a home on Merry Street.
Metro Police said they found the mother, 35-year-old Laquita Smith, inside the house. Police said she was intoxicated; they also said Smith stopped at a friend's house after deciding she was too inebriated to drive to her home in La Vergne.
She's charged with two counts of felony child neglect; one count of misdemeanor child neglect; and driving on a suspended license.
My question is why didn't she get 3 counts of felony child neglect. I guess D7 would let her off on all counts except the suspended license.
sid, you are absurd.
...then they came for the douchebags...and we were happy to see John Rich go.

I've never seen a policy that covers hearing aids, no matter the cause of hearing loss.
My wife needs them, too.
House, so does my husband; damaged ears when he fell 22' off building; cracked hard hat; had brain injury, but dummy doctors said "his ears are OK; they didn't get hurt".
We both know it was damage from the fall. Hard to prove; our medical nor work comp in NV would cover it. It's about $5000; got to save up. Till then, it's a lot of "huh? what did you say" even from 12' away.
He didn't even listen to heavy metal or loud music. What will happen in 20 years when all the musicians (loud music) need hearing aids? Huh?
sid - law dictates the age of the children determines whether it's a felony or misdemeanor charge :(

wow, Dusty - really? our justice system is so screwed up.
