Celebrated guitarist John Edwin (Eddy) Shaver died in his sleep Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, in Waco, Texas. He was pronounced dead at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center at 2:48 a.m.
For the past 15 years, the 38-year-old Shaver was a partner with his father, renowned singer-songwriter Billy Joe Shaver, in the group Shaver. During that time, the group released six records beginning with the critically acclaimed album Tramp on Your Street in 1993, with Eddy making contributions as a performer, songwriter, arranger and co-producer (on the 1998 album, Victory). The band just finished their third recording for New West Records entitled The Earth Rolls On, which is scheduled for release on March 20.
