Singer-songwriter Juliana Hatfield was insistent. She didn't want the word "reunion" used in regard to the reformed The Blake Babies.
The Blake Babies, who perform tonight at 12th & Porter in support of their first new album in 10 years, were one of the groundbreaking alternative rock bands to come out of Boston in the mid-to-late-'80s. They disbanded in 1991. Hatfield went on to a successful solo career, while bandmates John Strohm and Freda Love moved to Indiana and formed a psychedelic rock band called Antenna.
Despite the layoff, the reformed Babies demonstrate convincingly that they haven't lost their touch on God Bless The Blake Babies (Zoe/Rounder). Their infectious hooks and melodies are intact. Still, Hatfield doesn't want to use the
