Polish journalist Ryszard Kapuscinski has spent more than 40 years reporting on events from Africa, Asia and Latin America. He has written firsthand stories about the overthrow of the Shah of Iran and Emperor of Ethiopia, observed the demise of colonial empires in Africa and the aftermath of various coups and battles in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Kapuscinski has also interviewed many major personalities and leadership figures, including Che Guevara, Patrice Lumumba and Julius Nyere. Now 67 and nearing the end of his distinguished career, Kapuscinski has spent the last few years preparing a trilogy of books that will summarize his observations and insights on the so-called Third World, and also offer a detailed history and analysis of the interaction between these nations, Europe and America.
