Merry May baskets

Since most of us had to get through a lot of April showers for the rewards of May flowers, it's important to make the most of them. Rather than just plunking blooming bulbs in vases, try arranging them in baskets for that just-picked look.

In my craft book Spring, we suggest using a long basket that fits on your windowsill for a windowbox effect. Fit it with a plastic liner and Oasis floral foam well soaked in water. Fill with fresh flowers cut or purchased that day. You may have to cover the stems with florist's wire and tape to make them sturdy enough to lodge in the foam. When arranging, start with the focal point flowers
