JAY-Z, the reigning rapper of New York City, will bring his incomparably intimidating verbal swagger to Vanderbilt University's Memorial Gym on Friday, Nov. 13, the school announced Thursday.

A rap icon for over a decade, Vanderbilt officials are touting JAY-Z's appearance as the biggest, most talked about show the school has ever hosted.

"Vanderbilt is excited about the opportunity to present one of the pioneers of rap, JAY-Z,” says Dwayne Elliott, director of student campus events at Vanderbilt University.

With the release of his new album The Blueprint 3 last week, JAY-Z is poised to become the top selling solo artist of all time, beating out Elvis Presley as the solo artist with the most No. 1 albums.

Tickets for the JAY-Z performance will be on sale to the general public Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 3 p.m. A limited number of tickets will be available at $40, and students are allowed only one ticket at this price.

The school also announced the addition of indie rockers O.A.R., Latin hip-hop sensation Pitbull and rapper Asher Roth to the lineup of performers at the eighth annual Commodore Quake on Thursday, Oct. 15.

The homecoming tradition will take place in Memorial Gymnasium with doors open at 7 p.m. and the show beginning at 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased for $15 by Vanderbilt students with school ID’s and for $25 by Vanderbilt alumni and the general public.

Formed in 1996 while attending Ohio State University, O.A.R. (aka Of a Revolution) has come to stand for authentic rock music that reflects the collective triumphs and tragedies we all experience in this world: Real people making real music that resounds deeply with their fans.

Tickets for Commodore Quake are on sale now at all Ticketmaster locations, online at or by calling (615) 343-3361. They are also available with no service charge at the Sarratt Box Office on the Vanderbilt Campus.
