Bell leaving Vanderbilt hoops squad

Monday, March 31, 2008 at 3:32pm

Vanderbilt guard Keegan Bell will transfer from the basketball team at the end of the spring semester, Coach Kevin Stallings announced Monday.

"We support that decision 100 percent and we wish him well," Stallings said in a release.

Bell said philosophical differences with Stallings led to his decision to transfer.

"I just didn’t feel this was the right place for me," Bell said. "It’s nothing against the coaches, the players or the university. For me to be the player I need to be, I need to be somewhere else.

"Coach and I just didn’t see eye to eye on certain things. Sometimes players just don’t fit into certain strategies."

Stallings declined to comment further Monday when contacted by The City Paper.

As a freshman, Bell played in every game as a backup point guard during the 2007-08 season and averaged 2.7 points, 1.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game.

Tell us about Vanderbilt Medical Students that's coming up with a new cure for diabetes's or an Engineering student that inventing the next generation of gasless transportation. NO BODY CARES about a worthless sports team member who's contribution to society is nothing more than chasing a ball around a court. Give me a break with this sports reporting crap. Report on students that will actually make a contribution to society.

Stallings always runs off someone every year. It is always a mystery as to who will leave.

Vanderbilt often does not advertise that players have actually been kicked out of school for various reasons, so don't assume it is Stallings fault (not saying Bell was kicked out, but others have been).
