Big second half carries Vanderbilt past Chaminade at Maui

John Jenkins chipped in 14 points for the Commodores against Chaminade.

Vanderbilt used a run of 24 straight second-half points to pull away from Chaminade for a 68-41 victory Tuesday in a consolation contest at the EA Sports Maui Invitational.

The Commodores (3-1) led 32-26 at halftime and were ahead by four, 38-34, when freshman John Jenkins started the surge with a 3-point basket with 14:42 to play. Chaminade did not score again until 4:36 remained.

The run included two more Jenkins 3-pointers in addition to six points by Jermaine Beal, five by Lance Goulbourne and two each by Festus Ezeli and Darshawn McClellan.

Jenkins made four of six 3-pointers for the game and led VU with a career-high 14 points. Beal added 10 points and four assists. A.J. Ogilvy added six points and a team-high six rebounds.

Nine different VU players scored four points or more and eight had four rebounds or more.

The Commodores held Chaminade to 24.2 percent shooting (15-for-62) and had a 43-33 edge in rebounds.

With the victory, Vanderbilt face Arizona (a 91-87 winner over Colorado in overtime) in the fifth-place contest, which will take place 6 p.m. (CST) Wednesday and will be shown live on ESPNU.
