Changes to Titans coaching staff concentrated on offense

Mike Munchak’s attempts to turn around the Tennessee Titans do not involve looking back.

According to reports Tuesday, Munchak fired tight ends coach John Zernhelt. One of the final holdovers from Jeff Fisher’s staff, Zernhelt had one year remaining on his contract.

Outside of Munchak, only offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains, special teams coach Alan Lowry and strength and conditioning coach Steve Watterson remain from Fisher’s time as coach.

Zernhelt, the tight ends coach since 2006, became the second offensive assistant fired this offseason. Last week, Munchak informed running backs coach Jim Skipper that his contract would not be renewed.

Under Zernhelt, Craig Stevens developed a reputation as one of the top blocking tight ends in the NFL. Since Stevens was drafted in the third round in 2008, however, the franchise has focused on more speedy, receiving threats at that position with the selections of Jared Cook (third round, 2009) and Taylor Thompson (fifth round, 2012).

There has been no official word from the franchise regarding the changes to the coaching staff or on a timetable to hire replacements.

Munchak and Adams are both buying time for different reasons. Adams has his age on his side. He should be out of here before the fans of Nashville decide enough is enough.

Poor Munchak does not have a chance.

I have to agree with the wizard. Ol' Bud is just milking this team for all he can before he's pushing up daisies. Additionally, Munchak is done for if Jake Locker's performance next year is similar to this season. He's hitched his wagon to that horse, so he's gonna have to ride it no matter what now.

As for all of these staff moves on the offensive side of the ball, what is being done to address a defense that gave up the most PPG in the league this year? Is their only answer to rebuild via free agency and the draft? If so, I think we're in for another long season of blowouts next year.

Munchak is an idiot...Does he have no clue that his defense is horrific? To not address the defense proves he has no clue...But this franchise encourages mediocrity...Just look at how long we held onto Jeff "500" Fisher.

Well Munch didnt seem to know his O line was Horiffic before season started lasst year. And I still dont see any evidence of him fireing his buddy Matthews. The 3 and out Offense contributed to the landslide of defensive points but can attribute Griffin's poor angles for a lot too. Who knew Morgan would be MVP. I never noticed he came off the injured list. Did he tackle any body?

Go Dores, Preds, Titans! Go Nashville a great place to live!
