Four Southeastern Conference schools, led by No. 1 Florida, are in the top 10 of the preseason USA Today Top 25 Coaches’ poll, which was released Friday morning.
The Gators, who have won two of the past three national championships, were named first on 53 of the 59 ballots. Texas, with four, and Oklahoma and USC, with one apiece, got the other first-place votes.
Alabama is rated fifth, one spot higher than its final 2008 ranking, and LSU and Ole Miss are ninth and 10th, respectively.
Georgia, at No. 13, is the only other conference team among the top 25.
However, South Carolina, Auburn, Kentucky, Arkansas and Tennessee – in that order – are among ‘others receiving votes.’ The Vols, coming off a 5-7 season, have two votes.
Vanderbilt and Mississippi State are the only two SEC schools completely absent from the poll.
