Commodores beat Gamecocks, stay alive in tourney

HOOVER, Ala. – Andrew Giobbi and Pedro Alvarez each hit two-home runs to lead Vanderbilt to a 7-5 victory over South Carolina on Friday in the Southeastern Conference Baseball Tournament.

The sixth-seeded Commodores will play eighth-seeded Ole Miss on Saturday at 10 a.m. VU must win two games Saturday to advance to Sunday’s championship game.

Vanderbilt pitcher Nick Christiani picked up the win Friday, allowing one earned run in 6 2/3 innings. Outfielder David Macias had three hits.
