Ensworth has landed a finalist for both the Division II-AA Mr. Basketball and Miss Basketball awards, the TSSAA announced Wednesday.

Corn Elder was named a Mr. Basketball finalist for the second straight year. His competition this time included center David Howard of Montgomery Bell Academy.

Forward Christina Slay was named a Miss Basketball finalist.

Both Ensworth teams won their respective regular season Middle/East Region championships and both play for a state tournament berth this weekend in the sectionals.

A year ago, Ensworth had two Mr. Basketball finalists, and one, Conor McDermott, won the award.

Christ Presbyterian Academy, the state’s No. 1-ranked Division I Class AA team, got two of the three Mr. Basketball finalists in its division. Guard Craig Bradshaw and forward Jalen Lindsey, the Lions’ top two scorers, were named finalists, along with Stone Memorial’s Brandon Cole.

The Lions won the district tournament title Tuesday night.

For the third straight season, Franklin Road Academy’s Derica Wyatt was named a Miss Basketball finalist in DII-A. The junior guard won the award as a freshman in 2010.

Winners will be announced during state tournament finals games on March 3 at David Lipscomb Allen Arena (DII), March 10 (DI girls), and March 17 (DI boys), at MTSU.
