In the offseason, the New York Giants devoted most of their time trying to upgrade their special teams.
They thought they had done it with the additions of kick returner Brian Mitchell, kicker Mike Hollis, punter Jeff Feagles and long snapper Ryan Kuehl.
So, what happened? Hollis, who was in a tight battle with incumbent kicker Matt Bryant, was placed on injured reserve with a back injury. Bryant, who was kicking well, then pulled a hamstring in Week 5 against Miami and is out for three-to-five weeks.
That forced Feagles to attempt a field goal, which he missed, and created another problem. Feagles had been the holder, which forced the Giants to find another holder for Feagles
