Franklin Road Academy rallied late and edged University School of Nashville for the DII-A girls golf state championship Wednesday at Manchester’s Willowbrook Course.
Starting the day two strokes behind USN, the Panthers caught up and finally won when junior Andrea Cropper, their final golfer, rolled in a par putt for the win at No. 18.
FRA finished with a 317 total to 318 for USN.
The championship marks the first state golf title in FRA history and 21st state crown for the school overall. It is its first crown in D-II.
Senior Mary Funk fired a 79-78 – 157 and finished fourth overall. Cropper was sixth with a 162 to place sixth, and sophomore Rachel Johnson shot 169, good for ninth.
USN’s Sara Garmezy (154) was third overall.
In girls DII-AA competition, Ensworth, led by Alexandra Farnsworth, finished three shots behind Chattanooga Baylor, which won its 16th straight title. Farnsworth was runner-up for individual medalist with a 75-75 – 150.
BGA, led by Harper Parkey’s 161, was third in the team standings.
Father Ryan’s Evin Edins (153), a Belmont commitment who trailed by just one shot after the first day, finished third individually.
In boys DII-AA, defending champion Dylan Healey of Brentwood Academy shot a 72-72 – 144 and was third. He was the top finished for the 2009 state champion Eagles, who finished a distant fifth this time.
In boys DII-A, Ezell-Harding and FRA finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
