KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee forward Jarnell Stokes plans to return to school for his junior season rather than entering the NBA draft.
Stokes announced his decision Saturday, the day before the deadline for underclassmen to enter the draft. The 6-foot-8, 270-pound forward averaged 12.4 points and 9.6 rebounds as a sophomore to earn second-team all-Southeastern Conference honors. In conference play, Stokes averaged 13.1 points and 10.7 rebounds. He was one of only four major-conference players to average a double-double in league competition.
Tennessee is expected to return 83.7 percent of its scoring and 86.3 percent of its rebounding from a team that went 20-13 and reached the NIT this season. The Volunteers also return forward Jeronne Maymon, a second-team all-SEC selection in 2011-12 who missed the entire 2012-13 season with a knee injury.
