Lipscomb University was named the co-favorite to win the Atlantic Sun Conference men’s basketball championship in a poll of conference coaches, the A-Sun announced on Wednesday.

The Bisons split the coaches vote with Jacksonville, which won the 2008-09 regular-season title. Lipscomb was second in the media poll.

Belmont, which lost five seniors from last year’s team, was picked fourth by the media and fifth by the coaches.

Lipscomb’s Adnan Hodzic also was named to the preseason all-conference team. Hodzic, a junior, averaged 17.1 points and 7.1 rebounds last season.

“We will rely on Adnan a lot this year,” coach Scott Sanderson said in a release from the athletics department. “But we have a lot of very good players around him that can make his job a lot easier. Much of his success is through what our players do on the perimeter.”

No Belmont players were named to the all-conference team.

“In the last four years, we have been picked to win the league twice, and did not," Belmont coach Rick Byrd said. "In the other two years, when we were not picked at the top, we did win."

Adnon's a stud. You guys should see this kid play. And don't underestimate the Bruins. With Byrd at the helm, they're going to get their points. Duke found out a few years ago that with that offense, Belmont can beat anybody on a given night.
